Russian President Vladimir Putin honoured Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat shortly after receiving a ceremonial welcome and tri-services guard of honour at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Accompanied by India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, Putin laid a wreath and signed the visitors’ book at the memorial.
This marks Putin’s first visit to India in four years, during which he will participate in the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Modi personally welcomed Putin at the airport, highlighting the “time-tested” friendship between the two nations. The two leaders also shared a car ride to Lok Kalyan Marg, where Putin was presented with a copy of the Bhagwad Gita.
