A cool change has come to Brisbane, with the arrival of dozens of the country's best ice skaters. They've been lacing up their skates and taking to the ice for the biggest event on the figure skating calendar.

00:11This week, Brisbane was the unlikely home of Australia's national ice skating championships.
00:17I think people are always surprised when you tell them that you do ice skating in Queensland.
00:21It's not what you would expect from the Sunshine State.
00:24We're a very small sport in comparison to most Olympic sports.
00:27We have a number of international skaters, so we're really punching above our weight in terms of quality and talent.
00:35Cool, calm and collected, up-and-coming pros like 11-year-old Mia Zhang give it their all on the ice.
00:43I love skating because it's like really challenging and I really like challenges and I really enjoy it.
00:49This year, a hometown hopeful is in with a shot to take out the main event.
00:54It feels really good to be at my home rink. My parents are here, my friends and family. It's really exciting.
01:02At just 17, Sienna Kazmazik is already one of the country's best.
01:08I've done super high-level Junior Grand Prix comps. I've been to the Youth Olympics last year.
01:14But what you see here on competition day is just the tip of the iceberg for these star young skaters.
01:21Like, it's a lot of work that goes into it.
01:23It also feels nice as a coach because a lot of you goes into the skater as well.
01:27There's definitely a big passion aspect to it.
