00:00İzlediğiniz için teşekkür ederim.
00:30And I refuse to stop going to live punk shows.
00:33None of my old friends do.
00:35They have all but one grown up and pronounced the scene dead.
00:38The only friend that I know of from the day 77 or 80 or 82 is an ex-hippie.
00:43He's now 60.
00:45He doesn't skate, but he never turns down an offer to go to a show.
00:49Whether it's some dingy warehouse or club set in a mini mall, he's game.
00:53I don't play an instrument, so I thought I'd ask the hippie this question,
00:56and I asked him, what's wrong with us?
00:58And he said, well, we aren't dead yet.
01:10So this is really an exploration and sharing with my favorite local bands.
01:17I decided to ask them a bunch of questions that might help me come up with an answer.
01:23This motherfucker moved from Brooklyn to start a band when L.A. hardcore was not happening in L.A. at all.
01:49in 2001.
01:51One.
01:52Yeah.
01:52And I joined in summer of 2002 when we were called The Problem, and there was these two guys were in it.
01:59He joined in summer 2006.
02:01Yeah.
02:01All right, Philippe, vocals.
02:04And we've been together for three years.
02:08Three years.
02:08Three years.
02:09Three years.
02:10Chad Miller, Battle Flask.
02:11Three years.
02:13I'm Timmy, and I play the guitars.
02:15The Franklin W. Bolochili.
02:18Bass.
02:20Two years now.
02:21Drew, been in the band about a year and eight months.
02:27Donnie.
02:28Hello, my name is John Foddy.
02:31Chavez.
02:34Guitardo.
02:36I'm Tim, I play drums.
02:40Ten.
02:42Fourteen years.
02:42What years?
02:43Fourteen years.
02:44Nineteen ninety-five.
02:45He's checking your math.
02:47He is.
02:48He is.
02:48It's nineteen ninety-five.
02:49Dave Drive, drums.
02:52Kid's bike, guitar, mic, manifold, bass, and Axel.
02:55Axel was looking for his girlfriend.
02:58Thirty years.
03:00On and off.
03:01Yeah, there's been some lapses, but.
03:04And there's Axel.
03:04I was born in Florida.
03:05So was I, so.
03:07And we had decided we'd start a band called The Skulls, so we did.
03:09And that was in 77.
03:11Very short-lived scene at The Mask.
03:13And here we are now in 2009, almost 2010.
03:16And in 2007, I put together a band, The Billy Bones, with my good friend here, Mr. Alex Gomez.
03:23I played with several different bands.
03:25The U.S. Bombs, The Authority, The Livingstons.
03:29My name is Drew Milford, and I'm playing with Billy Bones.
03:34Where are the stitches?
03:34We both started in 1993.
03:37I'm Skibbs.
03:38I play drums.
03:38I'm Johnny, I play guitar.
03:43My name is Mike, and I sing.
03:45My name is Mike.
03:46You're not going to bring a chance.
03:48My name is Pete, I play bass.
03:53Okay, get ready for some of the baddest motherfuckers ever.
03:56Come on, I'll hide it.
03:57The Gears.
03:58The first time I saw The Gears was at the Santa Monica Civic.
04:04They played with X and The Blasters.
04:06It's 1981.
04:08They've been one of my favorite bands ever since.
04:10Just good and fun.
04:12I guess.

10:50I can still jump around and do punk rock, I definitely will.
10:55I'm going to do music for as long as I can.
10:58And what works for me is punk rock.
11:01So in whatever way that I do do it, I am going to keep doing it.
11:06And yeah, when I'm 70, yeah, why not?
11:09If I'm healthy and I can do it, why not, man?
11:13There's no reason to stop, you know what?
11:15It's what keeps you alive.
11:16Music is a universal language, as cliche as that sounds.
11:21But it's so true, man.
11:22It keeps you alive.
11:23It's something to look forward to.
11:24New music, old music, yeah.
11:27No, I will do this until you'll bury me with playing music, okay?
11:31That's the way it is, man.
11:32Absolutely.
11:33Ditto.
11:37What's the same name here by the animals?
11:41You remember the animals?
11:44Awesome.
11:46Favorite hump-in.
11:49One, two, three.
11:50What's the same name?
12:06This is not how I got it.
12:07I'm not gonna learn anymore.
12:11This is not the way to die.
12:15I won't do this, I'll try.
22:03Do you skateboard?
22:05I do not, no.
22:07Ok.
22:09Tried it.
22:11Yes.
22:13This is where the bone

34:38Fitzgerald's, ya I think Fitzgerald's.
34:41Where are we playing today?
34:42We're playing with Mr. T's, Alex's Bar.
34:45All the major clubs.
34:46Cobalt Cafe, before then we were playing at Rock'n'Roll Pizza.
34:51We used to play Banalo Inn, before that closed.
34:54D. Piazza's.
34:56The Airliner.

35:00Winter Stencil's parking lot.
35:02Popeye's Bub in Peekskill, New York.
35:05Peekskill, New York.
35:06It really pisses me off that these owners, club owners and stuff,
35:09are like making kids sell tickets to play in their venue,
35:12and they're making a fucking fortune.
35:14Yes, and I think it's just ridiculous, man.
35:17Ya know?
35:18You've got a talent, you should be able to put it out there,
35:20you shouldn't have to pay to show what you've been working so hard to do,
35:24to get somewhere, so.
35:26I mean that's just me, and I'm sure Alex probably feels the same way.
35:29Absolutely.
35:30You know, we're musicians, we don't like to see people taken advantage of.
35:33Clubs that take advantage of bands that want to make good music.
35:37Pay to play.
35:38Ya, pay to play type stuff.
35:39That's, for me, that's my pet peeve.
35:42That should never happen to anybody.
35:44If a band shows up, and there's people paying, they should get paid accordingly.
35:48The Knitting Factory was almost going to get closed, and there was like, the clinic got closed down,
35:55the cops came down on the showcase, like all the cities that have venues in them are starting to come down on the venues.
36:01I don't know why, but we had the clinic, and little by little more kids would show up and get into it,
36:08and the clinic, at the end of the last show I played there, there was all local bands, all new bands,
36:16and, uh, there was like 200 almost, there was like 250 kids at least.
36:23I first met Felipe at a party in Van Nuys, years before he founded Battle Flask.
36:47People were jamming, doing covers, and Felipe is out there singing any song someone from the room should say.
36:52I asked my friend Mikey, who's this French guy who knows all these old L.A. punk songs?
36:58It was amazing.
37:22They both magnificent выз games so much.
37:26But in theилось space as it began, preheated to play how it was transported.
37:34The Knitting Factory was on this part of the whole play, so that it was환 À Firasischen Înfigure but with Prince Advertise would come down on the wall should have been set before we.
