01:43At the rim.
01:46Meanwhile, 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis of the Mavericks did not play in that game in Miami.
01:52One of his 15 missed games this season.
01:54Tonight, this future Hall of Famer plays in his eighth game of his 14th season, coming off his best game of the year, a 32-point, 13-rebound performance in Monday's victory for the Dallas Mavericks at Denver.
02:05Our Kia player profile tonight on an undrafted rookie who's making a big splash here in Dallas, 5'11 point guard Ryan Nemhardy's, Andrew's younger brother out of Gonzaga.
02:15He's on a two-way contract, but tonight going to make his fourth consecutive start.
02:20And Monday night in Denver, what a performance for him.
02:2228 points on 12 of 14 shooting, also had 10 assists and no turnovers in a 35-minute masterpiece in a 10-point victory.
02:32Meanwhile, John, he's going to be matched up with the Heat's point guard, Davion Mitchell, who's having his best season.
02:37The five-year veteran, John, has been a spark plug for the Heat on both ends of the court.
02:41I love him because he's tough.
02:42He's relentless.
02:43He's a honey badger out there on that defensive end, doing so many things on the ball.
02:48I feel like he's elite.
02:49He pressures opponents at the point of attack, slides his feet, active with his hands, creates deflections and steals 1.4 a game, and just continues to be disruptive out there.
03:00He's also done a great job setting up his teammates.
03:03He's fifth in total assists in the league at 7.6 a game, at a season-high, tying 12 assists on Monday.
03:10And let's not forget about his three-point shooting.
03:12He's 40% now beyond the arc this season, continues to be a threat.
03:16Mixing up his quick, speedy drives with this long-range jumper to make him a more effective score.
03:22Davion Mitchell played his college basketball at Baylor about an hour and a half from here.
03:26His game the other night was unique.
03:28First time in Heat history.
03:29A player recorded those numbers.
03:31It came in Monday night's win over the Clippers.
03:33You've got to love that performance.
03:34Did not miss a shot.
03:36Scored 16 points.
03:37Made all of his threes.
03:3812 assists.
03:39And not a single turnover.
03:41You're talking about a Verizon-reliable performer.
03:45Davion Mitchell this year.
03:46Fifth season in the league and leading the NBA in assist-turnover ratio.
03:51Elite level for a point guard.
03:52Almost over five assists every one turnover.
03:56He's also the league's number six assist man.
03:59Davion Mitchell bringing cohesion to the offense and chaos to the defense.
04:06Davion steps back.
04:08Bing-Gong.
04:09Davion calling.
04:10Every basket.
04:10Davion stroking it.
04:12Every steal.
04:13Mitchell taking it away.
04:14Every time I touch the court.
04:16The pit bull attacking inside.
04:18Sick of it.
04:20You'll see it.
04:21Davion.
04:22You'll feel it.
04:23He's a driving force.
04:24You'll hear it.
04:25The pit bull will bark and bite.
04:27The man's playing amongst the trees.
04:29He's relentless.
04:30I'm locked in.
04:32Are you?
04:32He'll give it a piece.
04:36Daily.
04:36By Morgan and Morgan, America's largest injury law firm and proud sponsor of the Miami Heat.
04:42And by the all-new Alexa Plus All Glown Up.
04:46You see how active he works.
04:54Blocked by Bam.
04:55Powell comes over and knocks it free.
04:57But he's defense has it dialed in.
05:00Davion's the head of the snake.
05:01Hart had his pocket pick by Davion Mitchell.
05:04The energy and the multiple efforts that he gives every single night on a defensive end.
05:07And we feed off of him making those plays every single night.
05:11Not only Davion, but Andrew Wiggins.
05:13Andrew Wiggins sparking the team with the defense.
05:16What he can do defensively is special.
05:19You know, that's the good thing about this team, man.
05:20When we play like that, it's hard to beat us.
05:22Miami Heat have won seven of their last eight games.
05:30Look at what the defense has done.
05:31You're doing a trend holding opponents under 109 points per game.
05:35Under 30% from three.
05:37He's with a second-best field goal percentage defense in the NBA.
05:40The best three-point percentage defense in the NBA.
05:43And that goes hand-in-hand with an offense that has turned the league upside down.
05:47And Miami number two in the league in scoring, number one in the NBA in field goal attempts.
05:53This ain't your grandpa's heat, John.
05:55A new rendition here in season 38.
05:58Miami now with a 14-7 record, second and final matchup with the Mavericks.
06:04Their officials tonight are Mark Lindsey, Ray Acosta, and Jenna Reneau.
06:08John, a two-game road test for a Heat team that's won two straight on the road.
06:13Yeah, no Norman Powell tonight, but Pella Larson filling in.
06:16And he's been in that starting lineup plenty of times before and should fit in it seamlessly.
06:24Take a look at the Mavericks starting lineup.
06:27For the Heat, this is their ninth-difference starting lineup.
06:29Here's the Mavericks.
06:30Ryan Nembhard, the undrafted rookie and the younger brother of Indiana Pacer guard Andrew Nembhard,
06:36makes his fourth straight start at point guard.
06:38Cooper Flagg, the number one pick in last June's draft, doesn't turn 19 until the end of this month.
06:43And Anthony Davis, a future Hall of Famer, who missed 15 games earlier this season,
06:48including the matchup in Miami nine nights ago.
06:52The re-jump.
06:53And Heat Nation, always happy you're with us.
06:55Off we all go on another Miami Heat NBA adventure.
07:00He's been a great team at home in 10-1.
07:02Time to take the show on the road.
07:04Andrew Wiggins, topside for Bam.
07:08Kabam!
07:09The man is on fire from downtown Riesel East.
07:12Johnny's made eight of his last 16 triples.
07:15He's been so good, and his teammates have been able to set him up nicely right there.
07:19Wiggins' quick drive to his left to set up Bam for the three.
07:23The Mavericks had early-season turnover problems.
07:25This young player, Ryan Nembhard, for the moment has solved those issues
07:29in the absence of Kyrie Irving, who still is recovering from last March's knee surgery.
07:34That's Nembhard missing.
07:36Loose ball rebound taken by Bam with both hands.
07:39And the pace always pushed by Davion Mitchell.
07:43Another open three.
07:45This one bricked off the back rim and comes down to Anthony Davis.
07:49Good clean look, though, on the pitch ahead.
07:51Two guys running to Tyler Hero.
07:53That leaves Bam open for that three.
07:55By the way, here in Dallas at the American Airlines Center,
07:58the home fans stand until the home team scores.
08:01There's a defensive club.
08:02You want to keep them on their feet.
08:04Bam with the swipe, and here they come.
08:06What a pass.
08:07Mitchell for Hero, but it's blocked out of bounds by Anthony Davis.
08:10That's great transition defense for a team that's really good in that regard.
08:15He's so long at 6'10", and here's the quick bounce pass right up the middle.
08:19Tyler knows he's coming.
08:21Looking to almost draw a foul there,
08:23but Anthony Davis able to avoid the contact and make a good clean block.
08:28John, that was an incredible pass by Mitchell.
08:30Full speed and a precise one bounce.
08:3418 on the shot clock for the Heat.
08:35In the Hero.
08:36Faking the three.
08:37Now finds one in the corner.
08:39Kaboom!
08:40Now Miami had 14 threes in the first half.
08:43Monday night against the Clippers.
08:45Their first two scores tonight have been from downtown.
08:47And by the way, a minute and a half in, they're still standing in Dallas waiting for a score.
08:53Hero on a breakout and a score.
08:55Great rip by Tyler.
08:56Hero one-on-one defense just takes it away from the rookie Cooper flag.
09:008-0 Miami off to a quick start here on the road.
09:04Max Christie trying to bulldog his way in.
09:07And he thought they had another turnover.
09:09They're going to get their first foul of the game.
09:11And it's on Bam Adebayo.
09:13Credit Tyler Hero right on the ball in the last possession.
09:17Slides his feet, anticipates the crossover.
09:19And rips it away, running right out to finish.
09:24Another quick active hand move there by Tyler Hero trying to go for the steal.
09:29Gets called for that one.
09:30Two shots here.
09:31John, in Monday's victory, their 17-point win over the Clippers, where Miami scored 140 points.
09:39Defense did not take a back seat.
09:41Had 10 block shots and 7 steals.
09:44It's a disruptive, chaotic-creating defense for Miami this year.
09:47Yeah, 39% shooting they were able to hold the Clippers, too.
09:53I thought that was really impressive.
09:54And it was from the get-go.
09:56I thought it really set the tone.
09:58It got the players into the game.
10:00Their bodies moving.
10:02And also, offensively, they were in a great rhythm because of how hard they were defending.
10:07Larson draws the foul and scores on Cooper Flagg.
10:10The first-round pick picks up Dallas' first foul.
10:13And Pella Larson, Johnny, he started 15 games in a row earlier, starts tonight in place of Norman Powell, and off to a nice start.
10:21Quick catch-and-go there as Flagg overran him.
10:23And able to get to a strong right hand there, faking to the baseline left.
10:29Rebound taken down by Anthony Davis.
10:31The Heat this year, 2-2 without Norman Powell.
10:35The two wins came against Charlotte and Dallas at home.
10:38The losses came at San Antonio and at L.A. against the Lakers.
10:42Ryan Nembhard with 8 on the shot clock.
10:44It's Davis for 3.
10:46That's way off.
10:47Wow.
10:48And sails out of bounds.
10:49Heat ball.
10:50Totally off-balance there.
10:52Doesn't look like he has his legs under that shot.
10:55The ball was like a dead whale falling.
11:00This 3 by Davion Mitchell comes down to Anthony Davis, who is cobbling up rebounds early in this game.
11:072 1⁄2 minutes in.
11:09The Heat ahead, 10-2.
11:10Amhart gets a nice screen from Davis.
11:14Out of the corner, that's Najee Marshall missing the 3.
11:17Marshall, the 6-year pro out of Xavier.
11:20For the New Orleans Pelican.
11:23Davion Mitchell to the paint.
11:26Blocked out of bounds by Marshall.
11:27A quick left-hand hesitation move.
11:30Thought he had to step on Marshall, but when you attempt an underhand layup, it gives the defense more time to recover.
11:37Marshall able to make a play.
11:39In the Wiggins against young Max Christie, former Laker came over in the trade for Luka Doncic.
11:45Along with Davis.
11:47It's Cooper Flagg with a rebound.
11:48The 6'9 rookie from Duke.
11:51Originally from Newport, man.
11:52He'll pull up and stick a long two.
11:55He's averaging 17 points, almost 7 rebounds a game.
11:59It's remarkable, Johnny.
12:01He turns 19 on the 21st of this month.
12:04So the teenage sensation for Dallas.
12:07Wiggins, middle on Marshall.
12:09Good defense.
12:11Ball gets knocked over to Miami.
12:14Good frisky attack for the Heat.
12:16Hero double-ducking and scoring.
12:19Boy, he got run off that three-point line.
12:22No problem for Tyler.
12:23All the way to the rim.
12:24Oh, Flagg bulldozed his way over the top of Pella Larson, who thought he had his seventh charge of the season.
12:31But the foul going to go against Miami's number nine.
12:34Hard spin move, able to get inside Christie.
12:37Look how he uses the rim to prevent Anthony Davis from coming across to make a block.
12:42Just gorgeous attack by Tyler.
12:44When we talk about three-level score, Tyler can get done out beyond the arc.
12:49He can get to that mid-range game where he may be most comfortable, but he really can get to the rim as well.
12:55He really has developed that skill.
12:57Tyler Hero back for his fifth game this season.
13:00He missed the first 17, recovering from ankle surgery.
13:03John in his first four back, averaging 25 points a game on 54% shooting.
13:09And he's made 16 of his first 17 free throws.
13:11Cooper Flagg gets a couple of the former college player of the year.
13:17With four early points for Dallas.
13:21Heat on top by six.
13:22Wiggins.
13:27And now Mitchell.
13:29Probing.
13:30Driving.
13:31And finishing.
13:32Really nice move.
13:33Attacking off the dribble.
13:34Putting Nebhardt on his heels.
13:36Little right-hand hesitation.
13:38Strong right-hand finish for Davion.
13:40Miami the number two team scoring in the paint this year behind only the Pistons.
13:45Anthony Davis on a turnaround.
13:48First score for the 14-year man out of the University of Kentucky.
13:51He's acting 21 points and 10 rebounds a game in his first seven games played.
13:56Larson pulls his way in.
13:58And that's going to be a second personal foul here in the first five minutes on Cooper Flagg.
14:03Going right at him is Pella Larson.
14:05No hesitation.
14:08Setting it up with a little ball fake.
14:10Cooper Flagg coming out to guard him.
14:12And then just getting to that strong right hand.
14:14And Pella does this very well.
14:17Using the ball fakes and then the hard straight line drive to draw fouls.
14:21Let's pause for a word from Hyundai.
14:24Sick car, man.
14:25I charge my phone.
14:26Can I get the Wi-Fi for this?
14:27Let's put it in sport mode.
14:30Loaded with features for everyone.
14:32How it should be.
14:33The Hyundai Elantra.
14:36The Cooper Flagg will sit down with a two early fouls.
14:40And when the game comes, former Golden State Warrior sensation Klay Thompson.
14:48Well, Miami in front 16 to 8.
14:51We've played just a little more than four minutes here in the first quarter.
14:54Sort of a two-game road trip for the Heat will be in Orlando against the Magic on Friday night.
15:00Klay Thompson, one of the game's premier three-point shooters ever.
15:04Here's Nembhard.
15:04Bullitt pass from Marshall with four on the 24-inch Thompson.
15:09And it comes down to Tyler Hero.
15:13Mavericks have missed on their first three trails.
15:16Coming in, it's Hero, but he missed it.
15:18And now Nembhard races back the other way for Dallas.
15:23He'd get back well in transition.
15:25Christie gets a look and gets three.
15:27Yeah, that's his game.
15:29Knockin' down those three balls at 6-5.
15:31Shoots it over 45% beyond the arc.
15:34Great kick-out pass to get him that look.
15:36Well, the best three-point percentage in the NBA for the fourth-year guard.
15:40Had a Michigan State play for Tom Izzo.
15:42Now, East Lansing, Michigan.
15:44Wiggins sliding in on Marshall.
15:46Missed it on the move.
15:47And it's Marshall bouncing ahead for Nembhard.
15:51Good closeout by Larson.
15:52He's here under-fast.
15:54He came out, but under control to cover Clay Thompson.
15:57You can't do a better job defensively than Washington just did on that sequence.
16:02It's a soft shot, too, Clay Thompson.
16:04Totally guarded shoot, a fadeaway jump shot.
16:07Damn against Davis.
16:08Couple of Kentucky alums.
16:10Wiggins almost stole it.
16:136-18 left.
16:14First quarter of play.
16:17Here's Nembhard on a pull-up.
16:19He knocks it down.
16:20Ryan Nembhard, 22 years old from Ontario, Canada.
16:24Played on a star-studded high school team.
16:26We'll tell you about that later.
16:27Hero, second try.
16:29And you don't want to give a player as good as Hero a second chance out.
16:33He's got nine first quarter points.
16:36Beat ahead by five.
16:39This is a matchup, John.
16:40AD against Bannon.
16:41You can see how short that ball is.
16:45AD really not in shape yet.
16:47What a pass by Davion Mitchell.
16:50Another perfect one-bounce setup for the pit bull point guard who has taken the heat and the league by storm.
16:57Beautiful pitch ahead.
16:59Using the bounce.
17:00Getting Wiggs on the move with the right-hand finish.
17:05Guards have ever averaged eight assists or better for a season.
17:08You're looking at one of them.
17:09The this-away, that-away point guard for the heat.
17:11Back in the late 90s, Tim Hardaway.
17:13He did it three times.
17:14Sherman Douglas, the former Syracuse All-American, did it in the 90-91 season.
17:19Sherm throwing all those lobs to Ronnie Cycli and Billy Thompson.
17:23And now this year, the present moment, Davion Mitchell averaging 7.8 assists per game.
17:30John, an assist turnover ratio that is staggering.
17:33Five assists to every one turnover.
17:35Tim Hardaway averaged 10 assists a game but only played 28 games for the heat this season.
17:39He came to Miami in 95-96.
17:43That 8.6 assist total, the all-time record for Miami for a season.
17:47But John Davion Mitchell has turned in an amazing first 20, first 22 games, 21 games of this season.
17:55This is Clay Thompson.
17:56A line drive three.
17:58First bucket tonight for the 15-year pro out of Washington State.
18:02The number five three-point shot maker in the history of the league.
18:07He's leading by four.
18:09I'm a hot-cass junior in for the first time tonight.
18:14Here's Davion.
18:15It's on the drive.
18:18Sends it back to BAM by him.
18:19Arkez could not save it.
18:21Oh, he did save it into Larson.
18:23But a shot clock violation on the heaters.
18:26Brandon Williams got the rebound.
18:28Brandon Williams just into the game.
18:30He's the fifth-year guard out of Arizona.
18:33He was the starting point guard earlier this year.
18:37That's Miami's first turnover of the night, by the way.
18:39Yeah, Hero just sat down.
18:40He went four of seven to start the game.
18:42The rest of the team, four of 12 right now.
18:45So, he needs the rest of the group to kind of pick it up here with Tyler going to get a break.
18:50That's Brandon Williams on the miss.
18:51Rebound.
18:52He took it away from Gafford.
18:55Daniel Gafford back in the lineup after missing a couple of games with an injury.
18:59Open three for Adebayo.
19:00He passed it up.
19:02Takes a tougher shot on Gafford and knocks it right down.
19:06Execution by BAM there.
19:08Shooting over the top.
19:09Gafford not the shot blocker.
19:11Anthony Davis is that allows him to come to that two-foot jump stop and shoot right over top.
19:17Gafford missed the last two games with a sprained ankle.
19:19Missed time earlier this season with the same sprained ankle.
19:22Christie throws it into the seats.
19:26Miami forcing a turnover.
19:28That's the third on the Mavericks in this quarter.
19:31Montecchio, Ware, and Smith come into the game replacing Mitchell Adebayo.
19:36And let's see who else comes out.
19:42It's Wiggins, Larson Ware.
19:44Yeah, Larson that comes out.
19:45Wiggins, Ware, Jaquez, Smith, and Fontecchio on the floor for the deep Miami Heat
19:51who start tonight with the third-best record in the Eastern Conference.
19:55Three games behind the Pistons.
19:57Just a half game behind Toronto.
19:59And Miami's depth continues to be a real weapon for them.
20:02Number three in the league.
20:03And it's scoring at 43 points a game with this group.
20:06It's 0-2 point blank misses for Hacquez who keeps it alive with his hustle.
20:10And then throws it away on the Najee Marshall Steel.
20:16Here's Clay Thompson.
20:18Knocks it in.
20:19A couple threes for Thompson who's 35 years old now.
20:24Got 59 triples on the season.
20:28Smith coming baseline.
20:29Got bumped by Christie.
20:30And Christie whistle for the foul.
20:32Good hard take by Drew Smith.
20:34Working that baseline.
20:36Christie kind of closing out but leaving the baseline open here.
20:40And Drew takes it.
20:42See the contact smartly get the ball up so you get two free throws.
20:46And Drew Smith will find himself at the free throw line.
20:49So John, the Heat having won seven of their last eight, a real nice blend of state-of-the-art
20:56offense and the same stingy, ferocious, and frisky defense.
21:01And I think that's what's really unique to what Miami's doing because the pace they're
21:05playing at puts so much pressure on teams defensively.
21:11But then their ability to get back and set their defense and be one of the highly rated
21:15defensive teams is unique.
21:18Again, most teams that play with that kind of pace tend to be more reckless.
21:23They don't protect the paint as well.
21:24They give up a lot of easy baskets.
21:26And Miami's done a good job of staying accountable on that defensive end.
21:30You saw D'Angelo Russell and former Heat forward.
21:32Caleb Martin check in for Dallas.
21:35That's a miss for Clay Thompson.
21:36A gang rebound for Simone Fantecchio.
21:40325 left opening quarter.
21:42Five-point Heat lead.
21:43Wiggins in and out on the three.
21:46Rebound comes down to Caleb Martin.
21:48We had a chance to visit with Caleb before the game.
21:51Williams got it.
21:51Plus a foul on Drew Smith.
21:54A Brandon Williams lightning quick point guard originally from Los Angeles.
21:58In transition, Wiggins gets a good look, but Heat don't really pick up the ball there.
22:05Drew Smith kind of running alongside.
22:07And Brandon Williams, with the burst, able to get all the way to the basket.
22:12And this is a Dallas team that right now is 12th in the West with 7 wins and 15 losses.
22:17The only teams that are better than right now, the Sacramento Kings and the L.A. Clippers,
22:23who are both 5-16, and the 3-19 Pelicans.
22:26But they're off 2-string wins for the first time this year.
22:29They won by 4 in L.A. against the Clippers on Saturday.
22:33And then at a shocking 131-121 win at Denver on Monday night.
22:39Well, their first 2-game win streak of the season.
22:42Heat have a 2-game road-winning streak.
22:43Wins at Chicago and Philly.
22:45Both one-sided offense.
22:47Fantecchio.
22:49Bounces off to Brandon Williams and with under 3 minutes left in the court.
22:53A match with a chance to tie it or take the lead with a 3.
22:57Blake Thompson.
22:59Nice setup for Gafford.
23:01And he gets fouled.
23:02We've got a timeout here in Chile, Dallas, Texas, with a heat ahead by 2.
23:14Welcome back to Dallas, Texas.
23:16Your deal of the game is waiting for you.
23:18How about our original Vice Knight hat for only 15 bucks?
23:22Crazy Andy would be really sad if you didn't scan that QR code right now
23:26and purchase that Vice Knight hat right this very moment.
23:33And we invite you on behalf of Coach Spolstra to join him this Sunday,
23:37the 7th of December, for the second annual Coach Spoh's 5K run,
23:41benefiting Nicholas Children's Hospital and the Miami Heat Charitable Fund,
23:45two very noble and worthy causes.
23:48You can scan that QR code right now and register for a day filled with fitness,
23:52fun, and giving back to our community.
23:55We help Coach Spoh, you will feel good once you do.
24:00What a coaching staff, Eric Spolstra,
24:02surrounded by former Heat players, Wayne Ellington, Malik Allen, Chris Quinn.
24:10Karan Butler.
24:11Yes.
24:11Yeah, Karan, I was leaving somebody out.
24:14John, there's something.
24:16The culture goes very deep.
24:18It was created, obviously, by Pat Riley,
24:20but the culture is reinforced by the former players who still promote that culture.
24:24And besides those four Heat assistants who played here,
24:27you've still got Alonzo Mourning and Keith Askins in the organization,
24:31and Udonis Haslam.
24:32So, tremendous peer responsibility and peer leadership.
24:36And, of course, one-time point guard for the Heat,
24:39John Karan, one of the best Heat teams there ever was.
24:42No, I love it because they are going to keep the guys accountable,
24:46particularly those coaches, the way they're going to touch them on a daily basis.
24:50Oh, my.
24:51A king-size offensive rebound and crush for Kalil Ware.
24:56Kalil Ware, that's his 38th dunk this year.
24:58He is 10th in the league in dunks.
25:00John, nobody on the Heat can offensive rebound like him.
25:03Good active hands, too.
25:04The deflection by Kalil.
25:06And here comes Fantecchio setting up Hero.
25:09Back to Drew Smith.
25:11The Maverick defense is pretty good.
25:16Miami shooting just 39% here early in this game.
25:19Fantecchio lost the ball to Clay Thompson.
25:22It's a very underrated Dallas team.
25:24They got the fourth-rated defense in the NBA.
25:28Either the number-two-rated defense.
25:30Brandon Williams coming in.
25:33Blocked by Kalil.
25:35Ball goes out of bounds.
25:36That's Kalil Ware.
25:37John, a snapshot of what he does best.
25:39Offensive board and block shots.
25:41Quick hands by Clay Thompson on one side, but Kalil Ware hovering.
25:47Brandon Williams gets stuck up there.
25:49Late to commit is Kalil Ware.
25:51He doesn't have to jump and put himself in a position to draw a foul.
25:55Love how he took his time there and just swats that one away from Williams.
25:58Eight on the shot clock for Dallas.
26:00Under two minutes left, first quarter.
26:02That's D'Angelo Russell.
26:03Jaquez!
26:04Oh, he took the bait, and he got the ball, but too late.
26:09I can't reset the clock here.
26:11That shot clock needs to be down.
26:14Yeah, they're going to put it to 1.4.
26:18Now it looks like it's going to go to two seconds.
26:21Ray Acosta, one of our officials tonight.
26:23You're looking there at Mark Lindsay.
26:25Mark Lindsay is the crew chief.
26:26Ray Acosta, there's Ray.
26:30Grew up in South Florida, went to Lake Worth High School,
26:32then graduated from University of Central Florida.
26:36Clay Thompson, he missed it with the shot clock duress.
26:41Two-point heat lead, Drew Smith on his scooter.
26:45I don't know if that was a shot or a lob, but here comes Dallas.
26:48Brandon Williams right down the middle on Haquez.
26:50Oh, he's a blur.
26:51Well, he's getting down the court so fast.
26:54Kalil Ware can't help on the shot blocking, anchoring the defense.
26:59So, fast break right now, favoring the Dallas Mavericks.
27:03They're doing a better job getting out in transition.
27:05They have tied the game at 26.
27:07Hero hesitating and scoring.
27:09That is such a tough shot.
27:11And a foul.
27:12E. Reid, for him to put the brakes on while he's in the act of shooting,
27:18really unique move to get to that right-hand runner.
27:21Slows down, taking off.
27:23Watch how he puts the brakes on here.
27:25Slows down to let the defender, Caleb Martin, come down and commit.
27:32Watch him let him go right by him.
27:34Puts the brakes on right there, and there goes Caleb.
27:39And that is just a tremendous concentration and finish.
27:42And one opportunity for Tyler Hero.
27:45It's our Vicky Flynn-tastic.
27:47They actually gave the foul to D'Angelo Russell.
27:50Hero, fortunately okay.
27:52You got a little frightened when you saw him go down.
27:55But Tyler Hero, off to a nice start, an 11-point first quarter for him.
28:01He to the top-scoring first-quarter team.
28:03They're the top-scoring second-quarter team.
28:05That would make them, John, the highest-scoring first-half team in the NBA.
28:11They have seven games already this year with 70 points or more in the first half.
28:16Brandon Williams flips it out to Caleb Martin.
28:19Here he comes.
28:21Oh, he missed the scoop.
28:22Kalil Ware just suctioned, cut that rebound.
28:25Heat with a three-point lead.
28:26Under a minute left, first quarter.
28:28I mean, Hawkins Jr. lobbing for Kalil.
28:34Spinning on Martin and drawing a foul.
28:40Kalil makes the game change for Miami in a positive way.
28:43It just looks different with this young seven-footer who's mobile and agile.
28:48I love how he provides such pressure at the rim on those hard dives to the basket.
28:54And then he also can anchor the defense.
28:57He's the best shot blocker on the heat.
28:59So, Bam on the bench, getting some really good rest right now.
29:03He'll be able to come back fresh.
29:04He got Kalil out there able to still continue to put great pressure on both ends of the floor at the rim.
29:10Kalil Ware, he's a number seven rebounder, a number 13 shot blocker in the NBA.
29:15Let's pause for a quick word from Gray Goose.
29:20You fall in love, sting, boom, the sky above.
29:26Five-point heat lead.
29:28Ware has made an impact.
29:29Four points, a couple rebounds, and a blocked shot in his four minutes.
29:34Russell for three.
29:36Just barely got rimmed.
29:37Dwight Powell got the rebound, but we get a whistle and a foul.
29:40It'll be four on Miami.
29:42Well, basket will not count.
29:43And a technical foul.
29:45Double technicals have been assessed, I believe, to Fontecchio and Caleb Martin.
29:49It's a small foul, 16.
29:52Technical foul, Fontecchio and Martin.
29:58Caleb Martin and Fontecchio have both been teed up.
30:04The foul was whistled against Fontecchio.
30:07Ball should be going the other way then.
30:10That doesn't make sense.
30:12The foul's on Caleb Martin.
30:14No, foul was on Fontecchio.
30:16It was articulated improperly to the scoreboard then by referee Lindsey.
30:22The score...
30:23No, you're right.
30:24Caleb Martin committed the foul.
30:26Yep, no free throws for Dallas.
30:32Heat of the penalty here is Caleb Martin pushing in the back right there, getting into Fontecchio.
30:39So he's going to get the two free throws, he...
30:41Caleb Martin, who played 195 games with the Heat, 84 starts, participated in 45 playoff games with Miami.
30:50And nobody will ever forget Caleb's 2023 conference final performance against the Celtics.
30:55He averaged 19 points a game and shot 60% in a series that vaulted Miami into the NBA Finals.
31:02Yeah, great memories.
31:03You and I got to say hello to him before the game.
31:07What a great story.
31:08Another great example, the Miami Heat development program brought Caleb in on a two-way contract.
31:15And what a run he had with Miami.
31:17It was terrific.
31:17Caleb Martin spending three seasons with the Heat.
31:22Since then, a short time with Philly.
31:24This is his second year with Dallas.
31:27Seven straight points for the Heat to lead by seven after the Mavericks had even this game at 26.
31:34And the final 15 seconds of the first quarter.
31:40Raymond Williams.
31:41That's Clay Thompson moving in on here.
31:44A good help from Ware.
31:45And Thompson made the shot anyway.
31:48John, even at the tender age of 35, he's still a big-time shot maker.
31:53Montecchio had a block from behind by Dwight Powell.
31:57They are third in the league, Dallas, with six block shots a game.
32:02And they've already got four blocks in one quarter tonight.
32:06We are through one quarter here in the Big D.
32:08He did not shoot well in the first quarter, but the competition is hot and heavy here in Dallas.
32:15It is brought to you by Alexa Plus.
32:29Davion Mitchell, one of the top playmakers in the NBA this year.
32:32The fifth-year point guard who played for the Baylor Bears in Waco, Texas, just about an hour plus away from where he held Baylor to great college success at NCAA championship in 2021.
32:45He was a defensive player of the year in college basketball that season.
32:49A weird try for the block.
32:51That freed Anthony Davis for the scores.
32:53We open the second quarter here at the American Airlines Center.
32:56Miami in front, 33-30.
32:59Eric Reid and John Crowdy.
33:00Tonight we're in court center.
33:01Jaquez leans in, draws a foul, and John Cooper Flagg hardly getting to know him tonight.
33:07That's three fouls in his four minutes of court dunk.
33:10Great isolation, and Jaime just putting him up in the air.
33:15Excellent ball fake, leaning in and drawing the contact.
33:18Smart play by Jaime Jaquez, Jr.
33:21And the interesting to see, looks like Coach Jason Kidd is going to leave Cooper Flagg in there with the three fouls right now.
33:29I don't see him going to the bench and going to let the rookies stay out there on the floor and kind of let him know, hey, look, you've got to be careful now.
33:37Can't pick up that fourth.
33:38Jason Kidd, fourth year as the head coach of the Mavericks, ninth-year head coach in the league, coached the Nets for a season, and four years with the Bucs.
33:45Of course, he's number two all-time in the NBA in assists, number three, actually number three in both assists and steals.
33:54We're in our first minute of the second quarter here in Dallas, the Heat ahead by five after the Hawkeyes free throws.
34:00Ware getting help on Davis from Smith.
34:03Flagg, the pull-up.
34:06That's a lot of confidence to show in an 18-year-old young man.
34:10Three fouls early, I guess he doesn't want to rob him of his rhythm, but if he picks up a fourth,
34:14as Jaquez and Kowal Ware cleaning up off another offensive rebound, that's his second dunk of the game.
34:22Got a great attack initially by Jaquez Jr., and Ware able to just absolutely come right over the top on the miss.
34:31Good help on Nembhard, now Jaquez rotates back to Fleck, pitch back for Davis, and he triples.
34:38Anthony Davis, with six trays this season, he's got seven points in the game, and that is a kick.
34:49We'll accredit the rookie flag really setting up that triple for Anthony Davis, too.
34:55The nice work by that rookie getting the big man that open three.
34:59Kowal Ware already a couple of offensive rebounds for scores in this game.
35:07Tyler lobbing for Ware, got broken up by Davis.
35:11That's a deterrent, it's Davis.
35:13Here's Thompson for three.
35:15Kowal Thompson having himself a night.
35:17Eleven early points for Thompson.
35:20He's hit three of five from downtown.
35:22Yeah, perfect point guard play, too, by Nembhard, finding the shooter in rhythm on that right wing.
35:27Kowal overshot the three, and the Mavericks with their first lead of the game, looking for more.
35:32Davis missed it on the move on Tecchio, cleans the glass for the heat, and here they come.
35:39Smith for three.
35:41And Ware, great hustle to grab it.
35:44Hero for three.
35:45Yes.
35:46Kowal are here with 15 first-hand points, that's his second triple of the game.
35:51Talk about rhythm right now, Tyler feeling it.
35:54That was a quick shot after the rebound there, a little step-back action,
35:59and able to get right back into rhythm beyond the arc.
36:02Miami with 12 second-chance points here in the first half.
36:06Just a two-point lead.
36:08Six on the shot clock, Davis high post.
36:11Blocked by Drew Smith.
36:13Two to shoot.
36:14Thompson did not get it off.
36:17That's a 24-second violation on Dallas.
36:19There are two teams that are both elite defensively, squaring off here in Dallas tonight.
36:26Active hands.
36:28Anthony Davis brought it down, and as he was going up, Drew Smith getting that right hand right in there.
36:35Drew Smith has got 32 steals.
36:37That was his sixth block of the season.
36:40Mavericks are in a zone defense now.
36:42Hero, occupying Marshall.
36:47Hyman.
36:49Had to change it, and the rebound wrestled for and taken by Anthony Davis.
36:56Davis with seven first-half rebounds.
36:59Here he comes against Akez.
37:02Missed it.
37:02That's good defense without a foul by Hyman.
37:10Kalil against Klay Thompson.
37:15Hero driving on them hard.
37:17Easy does it for Tyler.
37:19Oh, he makes it look easy.
37:20It's not, folks.
37:21He's got 17 first-hand points on seven of 11 shooting.
37:25He's just in total command.
37:26You can see how much stronger he's gotten over his career.
37:30Getting bumped there.
37:31Just shrugs it off, able to get to the rim.
37:34Beat him a 2-3 zone for the first time tonight.
37:36Thompson, great D.
37:38I'm a hero.
37:39Rush out.
37:40Challenge the shot by Thompson.
37:42Davis was held by Hawkins.
37:46Every possession of battle.
37:47Very competitive hand.
37:49Tyler in command on the kickout.
37:51A little ball fake hesitation and just takes his time once he gets the smaller defender on his left hip.
37:58He is scoring at every level right now, Tyler Hero.
38:02Keeping the defense completely guessing where he's going to make the play.
38:06Akez out.
38:07Pella Larson back in.
38:09By the way, the Heat, 22 paint points.
38:11The Mavericks just 10 in the paint.
38:14Cooper Flynn with three on the 24.
38:18Oh, good defense by Bontecchio.
38:21Ball goes out of bounds and over to Miami.
38:24The defense on both sides, John.
38:27Really, you just, everybody loves offense.
38:29You've got respect.
38:30Great defense chasing kids.
38:32Mavericks and Eric Spolster's Heat are turning in here in the first half.
38:35The Heat are doing a nice job of opportunistically looking to double-team some of the key players on the Dallas side.
38:42And it's throwing them out forever.
38:43Oh, Hero is painting up a storm in this game.
38:48Tyler Hero is giving the Heat seven straight points.
38:50He's got 19 points shot.
38:52Most of them have come in the paint.
38:55Heat ahead by six.
38:5724 of Miami's points in that painted area.
39:01Getting great shots.
39:03Neymar.
39:04Into the corner.
39:05That's Marshall.
39:06And he triples.
39:08Najee Marshall with his first score of this game.
39:12Three-point Heat lead and a steal by Marshall off the Fantecchio pass.
39:18Here comes Flaag.
39:22Eight points for Flaag.
39:24Jason Kidd left him in with three fouls early in this quarter.
39:28Kahlil.
39:29Kaboom.
39:30Oh, the big man can bring rain with his 21st triple in the season and puts the Heat up by Fools.
39:37So comfortable beyond the arc.
39:39Great rotation on the ball as it leaves his hand.
39:42The big man converting to three.
39:44He's still in his own defense.
39:46Look out Flaag.
39:48Puts it back to Neymar.
39:49He tees it up.
39:50And knocks it down.
39:52Young Ryan Neymar.
39:55Averaging eight points per game.
39:56That's his 10th triple of his rookie season.
40:00On a two-week contract.
40:02Fantecchio missing the three.
40:04Rebounded Davis.
40:05Blake Davis and Ware having a battle.
40:08Anthony Davis.
40:09Seven points.
40:09Eight boards here on the first half.
40:13Neymar wide open.
40:17Two threes in a row for the rookie.
40:20Making his fourth consecutive start for the Mavericks.
40:22You know, the game in Miami was his breakout game.
40:26A timeout for the Heat.
40:29Neymar had a seven-assist-zero turnover game in Miami.
40:33He has started every game since.
40:35John, he has calmed down the Mavericks.
40:37You can see the young magic coming from number nine in Dallas.
40:43Fearless approach exhibited by Tyler Hero, the 7th-year guard out of the University of Kentucky.
40:49Missed the first 17 games of the season for Miami.
40:53And he has come back and picked up right where he left off as a first-time All-Star last season.
40:58John, 19, first-half points, getting most of it off the drive.
41:02Yeah, I've just been really impressed.
41:04He's mixing it up, though.
41:05I mean, a couple of made threes.
41:06That's what forces the defense to try to run him off the line.
41:09He'll take whatever the defense is going to give him.
41:12He can get to the mid-range.
41:13He's been able to get to the basket, finish with layups, too.
41:17Just totally in command of his game right now.
41:20He's got Dallas guessing of how to guard him.
41:2319 points here in just 15 minutes.
41:26Meanwhile, the Mavericks have outscored Miami in this quarter.
41:2921-14.
41:30Eric Spolster's gone to his bench.
41:32Nikko Jovic is in.
41:34Larson missing the three.
41:36Wiggins could not control the rebound.
41:38Goes out of bounds off Dallas, though.
41:39On the ways the Mavericks have come back.
41:42They're three-point shooting.
41:43They're 8 of 13 for the game.
41:45They've made all five of their threes in this quarter.
41:49He with Mitchell, Adebayo, Jovic, Larson, and Wiggins.
41:54Miami trailing by two.
41:55Jovic.
41:56Oh, he missed it on the move, but he gets it right back.
42:00Adebayo.
42:01Missing the three.
42:02The threes have not been there for the heat.
42:04They are four for 16 from downtown in this half.
42:09Remember, Miami only had a season-low five made threes when these clubs met nine nights ago in Kaseya Center.
42:17Oh, pretty move by Nembhard.
42:18The crossover dribble and a jump shot.
42:21Ryan Nembhard.
42:22Ten points in the game.
42:24Eight here in the quarter.
42:25Here's Bam.
42:27That's good.
42:28He needed that bucket after falling behind by four.
42:31A good pull-up there in that mid-range area, able to shake three of big man Gafford and Bam stepping right into that jet.
42:38There's the second consecutive time the Mavericks have met Miami, and with their defense, they have slowed the heat down.
42:47Nembhard with five on the shot clock.
42:49Max Christie steps back for the triple.
42:52And Yovic has to come right to it.
43:00Bam against not Najee Marshall.
43:02They double him quickly.
43:03Yovic.
43:05Short on the three.
43:06Rebound comes down to Christian.
43:07But you don't make your threes, the game feels hard.
43:10D'Angelo Russell, the veteran point guard.
43:15Now, with Kyrie Irving missing the first part of his season, John, on paper, you would think that the Angelo Russell would be the logical choice to fill in for Kyrie while he's out.
43:31Russell, the 11th-year pro from Ohio State, came over in the offseason, a two-year deal as a free agent.
43:36But it hasn't worked out for Russell.
43:38He's just playing about 21 minutes a game.
43:40Yeah, shooting the ball very poorly.
43:42Career low three-point percentage.
43:45Just eight total points in the last two games.
43:47And Coach Kidd favoring and really talked very highly about two-way player Ryan Nembhardt at the three-game pressing.
43:54Oh, Najee Marshall going right through Yovic and Larson.
43:57By the way, it was Larson that picked up that last foul.
44:00Five points for Marshall.
44:02Miami down 53-49.
44:05Davion a bullet for Yovic.
44:07Now Larson for three.
44:09And the rebound comes down to Gaffer.
44:11That's four out of 18 for three for the Heat.
44:15Under four minutes left in the half.
44:17Nembhardt.
44:19Yikes.
44:20Nembhardt going off.
44:22Got 11 in the quarter.
44:2413 for the game.
44:25He has already tripled three times and three tries.
44:28Wiggins leaning in.
44:30Offensive foul.
44:32It was Daniel Gaffer who drew the charge on Wiggins.
44:35They do clog the middle.
44:37What they do so well is they run teams off the three-point line like they do here.
44:41And they really funnel everybody to their bigs.
44:44Gaffer stepping right in front to take that charge.
44:47They'll either have a shot blocker or a big man take a charge.
44:51But Nembhardt really tight with that ball handling.
44:54Step back.
