00:00Megan exploits title in absurd choreographed entrance.
00:04Megan Markle is allegedly using her royal title to make grand entrances.
00:08While sitting down in New York City with writer Caitlin Greenidge for Harper's Bazaar,
00:12Megan Markle made a bold impression.
00:15We're in a grand brownstone on the Upper East Side that belongs to one of Megan's friends.
00:19When I enter, the house manager announces,
00:22Megan, Duchess of Sussex,
00:23even though we appear to be the only other two people in the house, the journalist claimed.
00:27According to royal expert Tom Sykes,
00:30Megan Markle's attempt at pomp and circumstance seems embarrassing.
00:34Assuming the house manager didn't spontaneously wake up and think,
00:37I shall announce Megan, Duchess of Sussex, at every opportunity today.
00:42We must conclude this absurd scene has been choreographed by Megan for the benefit of the journalist,
00:47he wrote on the Royalist Substack.
00:49It feels like a desperate attempt to drill into the journalist
00:52that Megan is to be referred to in the copy as the Duchess of Sussex,
00:55not Megan Markle from Deal or No Deal.
00:59Tom Sykes also noted that although association with the royal family is significant in England,
01:04it doesn't hold the same weight in the United States.
01:07This is absurd, and particularly because it is all unfolding in America,
01:11where British peers always used to know far better than to flounce around waving titles,
01:16he wrote.
01:17It's deeply uncool and painfully embarrassing.
01:19For more than a century, British aristocrats have understood that whatever magic a title carries
01:25in Britain, it evaporates instantly in the United States.
01:29Megan Markle has been accused of using her title for financial gain
01:32multiple times since she and Prince Harry left the firm in 2020.
01:36Having slammed the royal family for years now,
01:39she really wants to use the title Sussex,
01:41and she wants to use Sussex Royal as her branding,
01:44which she was told she wasn't allowed to.
01:46But it feels a little bit hypocritical to rely on that royal fame to sell products and maintain
01:51notoriety, reporter Charlotte Griffiths told the UK's Channel 5.
