In a major address to thousands of women and girls in Tehran on Wednesday, Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said that Islam grants women a highly respected and equal position in society, while sharply criticizing what he called the “corrupt Western culture” toward women.
Ayatollah Khamenei said the Qur’an presents women with the “highest and most progressive” identity, and cited Fatima al-Zahra (SA) — daughter of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) — as the ultimate role model. He described her as a woman of worship, humility, bravery, sacrifice, wisdom, and leadership, saying Iranian women draw strength and guidance from her example.
