00:27It is Shota Umano and Yuya Ulamoura who walk in tonight to our main event of the evening
00:46in Twin Messe.
00:47She's Woka North on four points in a World Tag League 2025 wrestling band.
00:52My name is Walker Stewart alongside Jerome Maloney.
00:54It is time for our main event of the evening right here on NJPW World.
01:00Shota Umano has a long standing history of competing in tournaments and
01:06while falling short near the very end.
01:07Just asked him about his match with David Finley earlier on this year in the New Japan Cup.
01:12Yuya!
01:17Shota Umano has vowed to right the wrong from his main event match in the New Japan Cup.
01:24Back in out in Nagaoka, that loss to David Finley.
01:27Let's see if Umano can write that here in Shota Umano.
01:30Umano Shota Umano!
01:36Shota Umano!
01:43Shota Umano!
01:51Shota Umano!
01:53YAH!
01:54Oh, my God.
02:24What is the reigning GHC, Junior Heavyweight Champion of Pro Wrestling NOAA New Japan 4 and
02:33Horomo Takahashi has been having a world of fun alongside this man in this tournament.
02:39He's been having some fun, he's also been getting used like a missile.
02:42Yeah, well, different definitions of fun.
02:45I think David Finley's having a lot of fun doing that.
02:47I would say so, yeah.
02:48David Finley's movesets gained like five more moves and
02:52it's been five different ways of launching Hiromu, but it's working, so.
02:56It certainly is, four points on the board, a two and two record against our main event
03:02competitors of Umino and Uwamora, the exact same record on that side of the playing field.
03:07David Finley and Horomo Takahashi have been struggling to figure out who exactly is leading
03:12this team.
03:13And it's less a situation, can these men get along, and well, can they realize just how
03:18great they are individually and put that together?
03:21David Finley and Horomo have been doing their best, but we'll see if it can happen in our
03:25main event.
03:26I would say the leader is the one that can involuntarily make the other man use his body
03:31as a missile now.
03:34David Finley is the leader in this team.
03:39Of course I have bias, but let's be honest, how many times in this tournament have you seen
03:43Hiromu just grab Finley by the script and launch him at someone?
03:48I've seen him try a lot, that's for sure.
03:50Try as he might do, and he's not looking like the leader in this set up right now.
03:55There's definitely a lot of conversation in post-match comments between Horomo Takahashi
04:00and David Finley.
04:02Horomo asked Finley for a birthday present, and he's going to be turning 36 in a couple
04:06of days.
04:08Not exactly sure what we'll do with that information in this main event, but David Finley says,
04:13hey, I'll give you two points here tonight, and we pick up a win.
04:15Well, that might be the best thing he can hunt for, because Finley will probably find a special
04:20way to use him as a missile on his birthday.
04:22Oh, good lord, that's not good.
04:24It was actually Horomo Takahashi that made a bit of an interesting point, when Horomo
04:29learned that David Finley is actually younger than him, David at 32 years of age, Horomo
04:34said that he should be the one leading this team, it's the Japanese way, Finley would be
04:39the co-hide of Horomo Senpai.
04:40To a point, but also, if we put it down to tenure, which is also the culture in Japan, who's
04:47been doing something longer, Finley was born into pro wrestling.
04:51Finley has no exact date.
04:53What's up, baby?
04:56Sorry.
04:58I understand.
04:59Yeah, David Finley was pretty much born into this.
05:02He can't really pick an exact date when he started learning to wrestle or he became a pro wrestler.
05:06He's been a pro wrestler this whole time.
05:07So, if we put it into that stance, okay, Horomo, you might be 36, but your career for
05:11sure is shorter than Finley's.
05:12Yeah, well, it was Finley who said himself in response that he's a 32-year veteran of
05:18the sport at 32 years of age.
05:19So, we're gonna flash back to our New Japan Cup 2025 final as we kick things off in our main
05:25event.
05:26It's Shota Umino, David Finley to kick things here.
05:40The last time that I was personally here in this building was on the road to that New
05:43Japan Cup final.
05:44David Finley in a singles main event against Zack Sabre Jr.
05:47One of the matches of the tournament taking place right here in this ring.
05:51That was a final match.
05:52David Finley looking to repeat that result.
05:55Defeated Zack Sabre on that night.
05:56Let's see if Finley and Horomo can put down Shota Umino and Yuya Uemura.
06:03You know, it was Finley and more post-match comments on the lead-up to this matchup.
06:08Says that he beat Shota Umino in this year's New Japan Cup.
06:11Yuya Uemura in New Japan Cup and in G1 Climax.
06:14Told Horomo, you might as well just take the day off for your birthday.
06:17I can wrestle the match handicapped and I can still put the points on the board.
06:21I would put it past him, Walker.
06:22Now, Shota Umino takes control on the side, headlock pushed off here by Finley.
06:33A shoulder tackle there for Umino.
06:36David Finley not an easy man to overpower, Drillo.
06:39You know that yourself.
06:40And Shota Umino managed to do so this early on into the matchup.
06:44Shota seems to have got some poise back in his life.
06:47You know, I know he had that massive climb to the top, mainly hit the Tokyo Dome, failed to get the job done.
06:54And for sure that messed with his head for a bit.
06:57He was wrestling out of sorts for a bit.
06:59You know, he kind of had a little bit of an identity crisis maybe.
07:02But it was a different kind of charm, a different kind of look on his face.
07:05You know, he's starting to have a little bit of a smile on his face.
07:07He's looking a lot more composed when he wrestles, not losing his mind so early to a match.
07:14Can you tell me what you make of this, Drillo?
07:16Shota and Yuya teaming alongside one another.
07:19Even ahead of World Tag Team, challenging for the Tag Team Championship.
07:22You know, these two men saying if Hontai is going to become the best unit in New Japan Pro Wrestling all over again,
07:28well, these two men have to be the ones leading it together rather than fighting for leadership at home.
07:34Yeah, and that's a good idea to have.
07:37But ultimately, if that wish starts to become fulfilled, surely one of them is going to be the one leading that charge.
07:45It's very rare to have two captains in one boat, you know?
07:49You're right about that fact.
07:51Shota Umino going to make the tag from behind.
07:53And very interesting to point this out here, Drillo.
07:56Senior official Marty Asami for the evening.
07:58Red Shoes Uno refereed the opening match of the evening here tonight.
08:01Yeah, what's happening to him? He's getting old or what?
08:03Yeah, well, I think some of it might have to do with the fact that his own son, his own flesh and blood
08:08is competing in our main event here.
08:10I mean, we've long questioned maybe a little bit of bias on the side of Red Shoes Uno,
08:13and that's never been an excuse that Umino has utilized.
08:15But I think we're removing all doubt by taking Red Shoes out of the equation here.
08:18Well, that's good for Shota because, you know, when you start racking up big wins,
08:22if your daddy's the referee, you don't want to put it down to,
08:24well, maybe my dad was a bit fast on that count.
08:26Maybe my dad was a bit lax on the other guys count.
08:29I'm good on Red Shoes behalf, you know?
08:32Me personally, fighter baby, I've been there putting him over like crazy.
08:36Fast count every time.
08:37Yeah, well, that's the life that David Finley came up on, that's for sure.
08:41Yeah, I've been Montreal in everybody.
08:43My son will be the champion of everything.
08:46Well, luckily for me, I have Concorso winning DNA, my son won't need those.
08:51Ah, well, there you go.
08:52He won't need those, those little assists.
08:55Well, if you want to make your son the champion, you should run an indie fan,
08:57but that's beside the point.
08:58Yeah, right.
08:59No, no, that's not how it works.
09:00I'd have to make myself champion.
09:02Ah, well, there you go.
09:03Who else is going to show up?
09:05Yeah.
09:06Yeah.
09:07Well, it's our main event here still.
09:09David Finley and Hiromu Takahashi seem to be completely on the same page so far.
09:14It's been interesting to see Ghetto at ringside kind of serve as the mediator between these
09:18two whenever they've been on the on-page.
09:20Yeah, well, Ghetto and Hiromu just come off junior tag league together.
09:25Mm-hmm.
09:26And it's very rare to have Ghetto as a main participant in tournaments these days.
09:30Yeah.
09:31They seem to get along.
09:32I mean, I was all in England recovering from my own stick staples in the head,
09:35but they seem to be having fun in the post-match comments together.
09:38Yeah, they certainly were.
09:39And, you know, I think that that's part of the reason that Hiromu and Finley are starting to day by day,
09:44inch by inch, get a little bit closer together, because Ghetto's been able to get inside the mind of Hiromu
09:49in a way that Finley hasn't really tried to.
09:51Yeah.
09:53Yeah, Finley.
09:54That's the present there.
09:56There you go.
09:57Right to the bone.
09:58Tagging.
09:59And in the corner here comes Hiromu Takahashi.
10:03Weight division, career accomplishments.
10:05None of it matters when Hiromu Takahashi steps in the ring with Shota Umino.
10:09Those are Umino's words from the lead up of this matchup here tonight.
10:13There it is.
10:15Ooh, corner bomb there for Hiromu.
10:18Off the ropes, this is signature Hiromu Takahashi.
10:21Let's not forget as well, maybe a week, ten days ago, Hiromu with two GHC title defenses.
10:27Yes, yeah, you're right.
10:29In the middle of this schedule, which is already bananas, you know.
10:32Won the Noah Junior Grand Prix tournament, defeated Tadasuke in the main event.
10:36Yeah.
10:37And this schedule, you know, a lot of, I've heard the comment a couple of times,
10:41well, you know, it's tactile, surely it's easier.
10:44And I would argue the opposite because when you're in a singles match, you're in a constant groove from start to finish of the match.
10:51You tag out and get on that apron, your body starts to cool down.
10:55Your mind gets a chance to realize how much pain you're in, how tired you are.
10:58All of a sudden, there's a right hand reaching out to tag you back in, and you've got to go again.
11:02So you're going in bursts, and it's a lot more high-acting when you're in there.
11:06When it's just Mano and Mano, you're wearing each other down.
11:09And there comes time in the match where both guys are tired at kind of an even keel.
11:13With this, you know, you've got a fresh guy coming in on you every two, three minutes,
11:17or at least more fresh than you are.
11:19Right.
11:20And the schedule, the schedule's insane, right?
11:22So that first week we had in Tokyo, we had two days off, and we had a match, a day off, a match, a day off.
11:28And then the rest of this through to the 14th is non-stop.
11:31Yep.
11:32Of course, we have moving days, but the moving days are four to six to seven hour bus rides.
11:37Yep.
11:38We're sitting down in an L-shaped position on a tour bus for that long.
11:42That was more damage than people realize in that game.
11:45Long flights, 14 hour flights in for the foreigners most of the time, 14 hour flights back.
11:50Numerous hours on a tour bus, on a train.
11:53And then the schedule of matches we have in between.
11:58And then Hiromu's just taking on side quests.
12:01I don't know if that's a good thing or a bad thing, you know?
12:04Well, Hiromu is certainly focused now on World Tag League.
12:07But yeah, too.
12:09Branding is champion in Little Noah and competing this year's World Tag League.
12:13Remember, Hiromu is defending World Tag League winner, technically.
12:16Yeah.
12:17Tetsuya Naito no longer into Japan for us like one alongside Naito just about a year ago.
12:22And Shultz Umuro, meanwhile, has been battling out.
12:27David Finley here is trying his damnedest to make the tag in the red corner.
12:31Tag made, and it is Yuya Uemura, your legal man.
12:35And Uemura, we talked about that classical, technical style of Rioli Oyewa earlier on in our semi-main event.
12:44Yuya Uemura definitely a more fleshed out embodiment of that, you could argue.
12:48I think so, I think a lot of people make the comparison, it's pretty easy to see.
12:52And it's really not a bad person at all to be compared to.
12:55A lot of people see Ricky the Dragon Steamboat in this guy.
12:57Yeah, you're right.
12:58Ricky the Dragon Steamboat, one of the greatest in-ring wrestlers of all time.
13:01But the key to his success was not only was he classically perfect as a wrestler,
13:06he could lock into that fire, he could bring it out, he could get emotional, you know, in the right ways.
13:12With a man like Oyewa, you can get under his skin, but very rarely does he know how to let that aggression out in the correct way.
13:19And it often gets the better of him.
13:21Whereas many times I've seen with Yuya, you get under his skin and it literally heatstorm catches fire and he starts going.
13:28And I can also string to a point I made earlier, he had a really bad injury last year.
13:34Yeah, you're right.
13:35And again, that was another gear switch, that was he came back from that elbow injury, came back from the elbow surgery,
13:41and kind of kicked it into new gear.
13:42Because it's like you said, you don't know how much you love something until it's taken away from you.
13:46When you have the chance to get it back, you know, the gratitude you have in your heart that you can come back to this,
13:51that it wasn't the end of your career and you can go again.
13:54You kind of start sweating the small stuff.
13:56Well, Yuya Omora has certainly locked into something here tonight, Joe.
14:02I absolutely agree with you, and Yuya Omora doing his damnedest to do so alongside Shota Umino.
14:07Remember, fans, these two are tied.
14:09Four points.
14:10Yuya Omora and David Finley and Hiromu Takahashi.
14:13Finley's broken that hole from Yuya Omora in the bottom rope.
14:19Yuya Omora saying in the lead up to this match that he still feels his loss for New Japan Cup this year.
14:23He still feels his G1 Climax losses to David Finley.
14:27And Yuya Omora determined to break the cycle of tournament losses.
14:31At the hands of the Rebel Savior cover.
14:34Two count only from Finley.
14:36And it is a Northern Irish curse.
14:41Oh, but not entirely as effective as he might have wanted.
14:48David Finley, all the pressure down, makes the tag in the blue corner.
14:51Here comes Hiromu.
14:52Meanwhile, Umino's not even the red corner right now.
14:57Two men who absolutely love New Japan Pro Wrestling.
15:11And you're gonna see some passion collide here tonight between Hiromu Takahashi and Yuya Omora.
15:16Come on.
15:18I tried to play this game earlier with Bolton Oleg and that's why I didn't make it out here for the first block match.
15:33He was disinfecting my chest and training me.
15:35Yeah, I don't blame you.
15:36All right, Hiromu, I mean, those are chops that cut like a knife edge.
15:43Yuya Omora, meanwhile, well-placed strikes right to the chest.
15:46And we're gonna follow up back and forth here.
15:49All right, Hiromu!
15:50Good!
15:52Is it about who hits hardest or who hits last?
15:56Well, I think we're starting to see who's hitting last and it might be Wu Omora.
16:01Having to double up though.
16:04Two is a party.
16:06Here we go.
16:07No!
16:08Right back to the chest.
16:09Crashed that party with one right hand.
16:11Oh, and another.
16:15Hiromu off the ropes here.
16:17And a double ball right down to the junior heavyweight.
16:21And them double hand chops suck.
16:25Cuz one of them's always in his sternum.
16:28And one handed chops come a little high, get a little close to your throat,
16:31mainly on the chest.
16:32Double handed chops, one of them's always getting you on that little dip.
16:36A little dip right at the bottom of your ribcage, not the wind out of you.
16:41That is Shota Umino, your legal man, Hiromu Takahashi in a world of trouble.
16:46And Umino here out of the corner.
16:59Uppercut in and out.
17:01Fisherman suplex for the landing.
17:03Cover.
17:04Still not enough.
17:19Shota Umino here.
17:21Might have been looking for that half suplex.
17:23Not gonna happen now.
17:25As Umino.
17:26Oh, how about this?
17:27Taken to the ground game here tonight.
17:29That STF locked in.
17:30But Hiromu broke it up by Finlay though.
17:32Yeah.
17:33And Finlay gonna be disposed of here by Uemura and Umino.
17:42It leaves the junior heavyweight and Hiromu Takahashi all alone here tonight.
17:46Wait a minute, what are we seeing here?
17:55Umino, I'm gonna take this one from the top and keep our eye on Uemura as well right now.
18:00Hold on a minute.
18:02David Finlay back inside the ring now and crunching right into those eyes of Uemura.
18:07Hiromu, watch this out of the red corner.
18:11The power of the junior.
18:14Oh, ho, ho, ho.
18:21Cover again.
18:24Still only a two count.
18:27It took a little bit of hard miscommunication there.
18:31But Finlay and Hiromu might be finally finding the same footing.
18:35We've only seen Finlay throw Hiromu around once in this matchup.
18:42That's a record low for these two.
18:44Yeah, I think that little miscommunication you harkened to there might be Hiromu having flashbacks.
18:48Yeah, maybe.
18:50As Umino here, tucked under there for Hiromu.
18:52Up on the shoulders, time bomb inbound.
18:55Plants away.
18:57Cover here for Takahashi on Umino.
19:00No, no.
19:01Ghetto, trying to hold together Finlay and Hiromu.
19:16These two are working like a well oiled one right now.
19:19That's Hiromu, time bomb, inbound one more time.
19:25No, here comes Uomora now.
19:29And Uomora sends it to Umino, one more from Yuya.
19:37And a double back suplex, cover here for Shota, one more time.
19:45And Hiromu Takahashi out at 2.9.
19:48It's gotta be difficult, Drola, to compete in this tournament as a junior heavyweight.
19:59Hiromu Takahashi on the wrong end of the equation here.
20:03And Hiromu, speed's gonna kill here tonight.
20:09Oh, breaking some code from Shota Umino.
20:15And Finlay, what the hell?
20:17No, no, no, we were at a record low.
20:19Come on, no, Hiromu sent right into the corner by David Finlay.
20:25Shota moved out of the way.
20:28Well, Hiromu's a non-factor now, it's down to these two men.
20:34Shota throwing a couple of elbows, a couple of forearms into Finlay.
20:44Finlay might have faded here.
20:45Well, there you go, that New Japan cop loss is running right through Shota's head now.
20:50He's gonna see his face has changed.
20:51He's gone.
20:52We used to see that face a lot, beginning half of this year.
20:54Yeah, you're right.
20:55He's gotta wrestle like it's a tournament final in every single bout.
21:00Wrestle like it's the last time you'll ever step in a ring.
21:02Oh, Umino, big back elbow there on Finlay.
21:07Enzigiri for the win.
21:09And it is Dragon Suplex.
21:12That was a burst of adrenaline from Shota Umino, but he's not able to capitalize on it.
21:21Not anywhere close.
21:31Uomura wiped out here at ringside.
21:34Noromo Takahashi trying to scratch and claw.
21:37There's no one to make to the corner.
21:39He's gotta focus on Umino tonight.
21:51It's like a whip.
21:56Yeah, Bolton, a chop from Bolton is like getting hit with a frying pan.
22:01Chop from time, I'm not getting hit with a whip.
22:03Look, like Catwoman with a whip.
22:06He's hitting those hits, stomp on his toes, oh my god.
22:14Yeah.
22:15Oh, and the Hiromu-chan bomber seizes the body of Shota Umino.
22:20Watch Shota here, off the ropes again.
22:24Inomu-chan bomber.
22:27On the shoulders, time bomb coming, landing away, it's done.
22:34One, two, one.
22:38No, we nearly had to call it.
22:41Uomura in for the save, here comes Finlay.
22:44Uomura took too much time on those wind-ups there, Droa.
22:55Finlay striking faster.
22:58Back on the feet again for David.
23:03Who's gonna win out here in the end?
23:05Someone's gotta get it.
23:07Whoa, whoa, whoa, holy hell.
23:09That was a nasty landing for Finlay.
23:11One, two, one, two.
23:16One, two, one.
23:18Yeah.
23:19Yeah.
23:22Yeah.
23:23Yeah.
23:23Yeah.
23:25Yeah.
23:27Yeah.
23:30Yeah.
23:30Yeah.
23:31Yeah.
23:31Oromura on Umino, call the play, Hiromu in position, watch it.
23:37No, Hiromu put the wall up, and he's got it this time.
23:41You cannot deny Shota Umino.
23:48And Oromura wipes out Finley again, Umino's all alone in there, Drolla.
23:52They took that to the mats outside,
23:57those mats are only about an inch deep.
24:00Put it away, it is, Cradle, Cradle, Cradle, nearly stole it.
24:06But he kept holding.
24:07Umino holds on, and it is, Will it, second chapter.
24:12Two more points on the board for Team Hontai.
24:20Two more points on the board, and will tie at the top of Block B to end Night 10 of World Tag League 2025.
24:36Shota Umino and UU Umura have done it.
24:39Two more points on the board, and will tie at the top of Block B to end Night 10 of World Tag League 2025.
24:48Two more points on the board.
25:01Drilla has been a rocky road, a rocky road for all of us, it seems, rocky road in this
25:18tournament for Shilto Umino and Yuya Uomora, but now back-to-back victories over Monster
