00:01Yeah, you want to talk about those slop bowls?
00:03Yeah.
00:04Apparently, you know, everybody's kind of over them.
00:07You know those bowls where you throw some rice and some other stuff and then you throw everything on top of it?
00:11Well, apparently, people are over it.
00:13Consumers want something different.
00:14They want something you can hold in your hand like a good old sandwich.
00:17Yeah, Steve Ells, the co-founder of Chipotle and the burrito bowl that rocketed the chain to lunchtime fame has moved on at a Manhattan location of his new concept, Counter Service.
00:25There's a red neon sign.
00:27It depicts a lunch bowl with a slash through it.
00:29But it's a bowl-free zone, guys.
00:31They say they love sandwiches and anything as long as it can go on bread.
00:35So long live the slot bowl or is it the end of an era?
00:38Well, first of all, I'd just like to point out, I mean, Counter Service, I love this place, by the way.
00:42And I went there a few times before I even realized it was actually owned by the co-founder of Chipotle.
00:46But the problem with the bowls is they just became so prolific, right?
00:49I mean, everyone does this.
00:50I mean, it was unique at one point.
00:51But now it's like, you know, every bodega on the corner here is doing a slot bowl.
00:55Well, it's interesting to see how that's being expressed in the stock market as well.
00:59Because you think about Sweetgreen, you think about Cava, they're both down year-to-date.
01:05But you compare that to 2024, I mean, these were the all-stars in the stock market, up triple digits.
01:11And it's interesting just how quickly the winds have changed on specifically these two.
01:16Do you think pricing had an issue with it as well?
01:19I have to imagine.
01:19I mean, you're paying $20 for a sad salad with not that much protein on it.
01:25That's how I feel.
01:27You could get the new ultra-high-protein Sweetgreen one that they offer over 100 grams of protein.
01:30Oh, right.
01:31Isn't it 100 grams of protein?
01:32What do they do?
01:33They put, like, a foam on top or something?
01:34It's a lot of chicken.
01:36I think three scoops of chicken, some broccoli.
01:38Some crushed-up crickets, perhaps.
01:40Teeny dressing also.
01:41I don't think the crickets are included.
01:43Yeah, I don't know.
01:44Yeah, but it gets to this idea of, like, why trends change.
01:46Like, whether it's economic or whether it's just social and cultural.
01:49We've just, we've had our fill of bowls and now we're on to sandwiches, maybe.
01:53Listen, I always loved a sandwich.
01:53And why sandwiches?
01:54You said handheld.
01:55Why not, like, I don't know, a patty, an empanada, a hoagie?
