Faberge 'Winter Egg' fetches nearly £23m at auction in new record

'The Winter Egg' by Fabergé, commissioned by former Russian emperor Nicholas II as an Easter gift to his mother in 1913, has sold for £22.895m — a new record for a work by Fabergé.

The piece is part of the Christie's Classic Week sale, which also includes the earliest color edition of English poet William Blake's famous poem 'The Tyger.'
