South Korean President Lee Jae Myung marked the first anniversary of the failed martial law attempt by former president Yoon Suk Yeol on December 3, 2024. In a special address, Lee praised the people who stepped forward to defend constitutional order and proposed designating the day as “People’s Sovereignty Day.” He also suggested the citizens be considered for a Nobel Peace Prize for their role in quelling the coup.
