00:00Ven aquí, que están agarrados con algunas algodillas.
00:04Straps and hooks.
00:06Pedro Casares is showing us his unconventional approach
00:10to keeping his Orlando home intact through Hurricane Milton.
00:14Preparing my house for the hurricane.
00:15Right now, as you can see, the hooks on the floor,
00:19they're eight feet deep of cement.
00:20They have rods in between,
00:22and it's to hold the friction of the roof from lifting.
00:24His daughter explains the unique idea was born from experience.
00:29More than two decades ago,
00:31while Pedro and his family lived in Puerto Rico.
00:34We had a hurricane that we went through,
00:35and the back of our roof lifted a little bit.
00:39It was aluminum.
00:42Now, roughly $2,000 in for the cement, anchors,
00:47and made-to-order straps from Idaho
00:48that cover the fronts, back, and sides of the home.
00:51They hold about 5,400 pounds of weight and wind,
00:55so, yeah, we're giving it a test.
00:59They're hoping it's enough to withstand Milton.
01:03Definitely just stay tuned for the aftermath, which you'll see.
01:06In Orlando, Brian Abel reporting.
