Olympic diver Sam Fricker joins the campaign to keep Lambton diving tower open
Transcript
00:00Hey guys, Sam Fricker here, Australian Olympic diver and Commonwealth Games medalist, and I heard
00:04the terrible news that Lambton Pool is being closed to the diving clubs, which is devastating.
00:10That's where I started diving, it's where I come up and train, and coming into summer,
00:15that's where we get our best diving outdoors. Now, the reason the pool is closed is because
00:20Work Health and Safety said that the bars and the railings need to be put there, and we're all for
00:25safety, and it's a highly controlled environment with trained experts who run the sessions, and
00:31all they were asking is that they're allowed to use the pool until those extra railings are put on.
00:36Now, the pool's in the same condition it's been in for the last, you know, 30 or 40 years.
00:42Eric and Gillian Booker, who run Dive in New South Wales, even started diving there themselves
00:47many, many years ago. So, the pool's always been like this, and they've come in with these new
00:51pool requests for railings, which we're happy to put on, and I'm sure that they will, and all
00:56they're asking for is to have access to the pool so they can train their athletes for this
01:01competition season while they do that lengthy process of putting in these new railings. So,
01:07I'm devastated to hear that, at the moment, the pool's been cut back from having anyone dive
01:11on any other boards but one of them, and hopefully this can be sorted out very quickly.
