00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the iconic and surprising
00:10plot twists in Whodunit Films.
00:13Naturally, there will be spoilers ahead.
00:30This dark comedy horror movie sees a group of friends play a pretend killing game during
00:35a hurricane.
00:36After they find David dead with a knife nearby, the party-goers turn on each other as they
00:40try to get to the bottom of who did it.
00:42Old grievances and new suspicions see the body count rise as the night goes on, however, when
00:54Bea and Sophie accidentally look at David's phone in the morning, they find out that David
00:58accidentally killed himself trying to use the knife to open a bottle.
01:02All those bodies, bodies, bodies dropped over a misunderstanding.
01:19The fact that the bad guy or this classic blend between live action and animation ended up
01:23being Judge Doom was not unexpected.
01:26To anyone over five years old, at least.
01:28I mean, he's called Judge Doom, for crying out loud.
01:31Of course, he framed Roger Rabbit.
01:36No.
01:40What's surprising is that the villainous Toon-killing baddie is not only himself a Toon, but also
01:45the Toon who killed protagonist Eddie Valiant's brother, setting off his dislike of Toons in
01:50the first place.
01:51Judge Doom's transformation and grisly downfall are almost as shocking as that reveal, though.
01:56Ah, what a world.
02:11The disappearance of Amy Dunn does not look good for her husband, Nick.
02:15The guy was having an affair, and all of Amy's diary entries paint him in an appalling light.
02:20That plus the overwhelming evidence against him, and your positive Nick killed her.
02:24That is, until it's revealed that Amy is not only still alive, but that she went through
02:28elaborate means to frame her husband.
02:39Nick diary entries, pretending to be pregnant, even drawing her own blood to make it seem
02:43like she was attacked.
02:44As bad as Nick is, the sheer psychopathic lengths Amy goes to in order to get back at him are
02:49much worse and still have us shook.
02:56In this underrated slasher thriller, a group of strangers are stranded at an isolated motel
03:13during a storm.
03:14This plot is juxtaposed with a hearing for convicted killer Malcolm Rivers.
03:18At the motel, the bodies start falling, and then mysteriously disappear.
03:22There are also strange coincidences, like everyone there having the same birthday, and having
03:26names similar to States.
03:37Eventually, Ed Dakota finds himself at the hearing, where he's confronted by the psychiatrist,
03:42who reveals that he, as well as everyone at the motel, are disassociative identities
03:46within Malcolm Rivers.
03:48The concept of a murder mystery within one person is so unique that it's borderline impossible
03:53to see coming.
03:55I want you.
03:56I want you.
03:57I want you.
03:58I want you.
03:59I want you.
04:00I want you.
04:01So bad.
04:02Everyone is guilty.
04:05Murder on the Orient Express.
04:16Agatha Christie basically popularized the whodunit story, and several of her books movie adaptations
04:22have some fantastic reveals.
04:24Although Simon and his old flame Jackie's scheme in Death of the Nile was pretty clever,
04:29our pick goes to the iconic murder on the Orient Express.
04:32Famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot is stranded on the titular train when a murder
04:36occurs during the night.
04:37As usual in Whodunit, Poirot uncovers likely motives for all of them, deducing that they
04:51all had connections to either the victim or each other.
04:54But unlike most stories in the genre, the twist is that it wasn't just one killer, they
04:58all did it.
04:59Even more surprising, Poirot is willing to look the other way.
05:03The victim was just that awful.
05:21The inaugural Benoit Blanc mystery features several incredible reveals.
05:25Although Marta's apparent accidental overdosing of Harlan and his subsequent decision to help
05:30her get away with it were wild, the finale turns the whole movie on its head.
05:34Through a classic interrogation scene, Blanc puts together the murder, revealing that the
05:38family's black sheep, Hugh, aka Ransom, tried to kill Harlan by mixing up the vials Marta
05:43administered.
05:52Except, Marta delivered the correct dosage.
05:55It was a self-inflicted wound, and Ransom's admission of killing the housekeeper, who told
06:00Marta, Hugh did this, is recorded, ensuring he'll still be put away.
06:04Quite the doughnut of a scene.
06:05This meta-slasher film has everyone guessing who the Ghostface Killer is, given his masked
06:29appearance.
06:30The final confrontation at a disastrous house party sees several guests killed.
06:34Protagonist Sidney Prescott is initially overjoyed to see that her boyfriend, Billy, has survived.
06:39At least, until he shoots Randy.
06:47Billy reveals that he and his accomplice, Stu, are both the Ghostface Killer.
06:51The duo's back-and-forth explanation of their crimes and how they accomplish them is deranged
06:56and a little comedic.
06:57And while we're not as traumatized by the reveal as Sidney is, it's still a memorably
07:01excellent twist.
07:08A hilarious whodunit based on the classic board game, Clue has several endings, each
07:29with laughs and reveals a plenty, but the third is probably considered the definitive one.
07:33In it, Wadsworth, the butler, reveals that each of the guests, besides the closeted Mr.
07:38Green, was responsible for one of the murders that night, each for their own reasons.
07:42All that's left is the singing telegram, whom Wadsworth killed himself.
07:45He further reveals that he's the real Mr. Body, with the presumed Mr. Body being the actual
07:50butler.
07:58As if that wasn't shocking enough, Mr. Green proceeds to shoot him, revealing he's an
08:02FBI agent.
08:03And also, straight, only Mrs. White can properly describe how this rapid-fire series of reveals
08:08made us feel.
08:28Told out of order, Memento follows Leonard Shelby, whose frequent loss of short-term memory makes
08:33his search for his wife's supposed killer difficult to follow.
08:36However, in a climactic scene, Leonard's friend, Teddy, reveals that Leonard already
08:40found the man he blamed for his wife's death a year ago, but he didn't remember.
08:45Since then, Teddy has been using Leonard to kill people and giving him a reason to live,
08:49hunting a dead man.
08:53Further, he reveals that the story Leonard often tells of the amnesiac Sammy accidentally
09:01giving his wife an overdose is Leonard's own story, which he repressed.
09:06Leonard lying to himself, and then targeting Teddy, which brings the film full circle, is
09:10a shocking way to top off this train of reveals.
09:19Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honourable mentions.
09:22Jigsaw was closer than we all thought, Saw.
09:31Police captains, you can't trust them all, L.A. Confidential.
09:40Which persona was real, and which was fake, Primal Fear.
09:48A shocking family secret, Chinatown.

10:16Yep, unlike everyone who's never seen this movie, you probably all saw this coming.
10:28Verbal Kint is browbeaten by an FBI agent, deducing that Keaton, whom Verbal idolised, was Kaiser
10:34Soze, the mastermind behind their disastrous failed job and the underworld's bogeyman.
10:39But then, after Verbal leaves, the FBI agent realises that Verbal made up parts, or all
10:44of the story, from things in the room.
10:53Furthermore, the massacre's lone survivor was provided a sketch of Kaiser Soze, and
10:58it's Verbal himself.
10:59This may not be the greatest trick the devil ever pulled, but it's still one of the most
11:02impressively constructed and shocking reveals in cinema history.
11:14So, is there a whodunit shocker your shock didn't make our list?
