00:00I don't know about you, but I intend to write a strongly worded letter to the white star
00:06lying about all this.
00:08Welcome to WatchMojo, and today, we're counting down art picks for the 10 most famous and
00:13renowned death scenes in all of cinema.
00:16Order you not to go.
00:18I order you not to go.
00:19I order you not to go.
00:22Number 10, Mike and Heather, The Blair Witch Project.
00:25I'm scared to close my eyes.
00:28I'm scared to open them.
00:30I'm going to die out of here.
00:41Even to this day, there's nothing like the ending to The Blair Witch Project.
00:44The house alone is mind-breakingly terrifying, and then Heather makes her way down to the
00:49basement.
00:49You all know what happens next.
00:51She sees Mike standing motionless in the corner, screams in absolute terror, and then her camera
00:56falls to the ground, having been attacked from something unseen.
00:58What he did is he took the kids down in the basement by twos, and he made one face into
01:04the corner.
01:04Really?
01:06And then he would kill the other one.
01:08And then when it's done with that, he'd grab the one out of the corner and kill that
01:10one too.
01:10The way this connects back to the Rustin Parr story from earlier is genius writing, a fantastic
01:16setup and payoff that scares the absolute wits out of us.
01:19The sheer dread of this ending is breathtaking.
01:22And even though we all knew it was coming, our faces were still pale while we walked out
01:26of the theater in silence.
01:40Number 9, Jack Torrance, The Shining.
01:42After all his axe-swinging chaos and menacing antics, Jack meets his end, not in a fiery
01:59blast like in the novel, but by freezing to death after chasing his own son through a hedge
02:03maze.
02:04The chase is one of the most famous scenes in movie history, with the visuals, music, and
02:08performances combining to create an unforgettable sequence.
02:11Danny!
02:17I'm coming!
02:20And that eerie image, Jack wide-eyed and iced over like a popsicle, is chilling.
02:26No pun intended.
02:27The ending has long cemented itself in pop culture, with the frozen Jacksicle being parody far and
02:33wide.
02:33Few horror villains exit with such dramatic flair, leaving us spooked, amused, and referenced
02:38in Kubrick's masterpiece decades later.
02:40You can't get away!
02:47I'm right behind ya!
02:49Number 8, Darth Vader, Star Wars Episode VI, Return of the Jedi.
02:53Luke, help me take this mask off.
02:59But you'll die.
03:02Nothing can stop that now.
03:05Well, this certainly isn't how we thought old Darth would go out, but we're glad it
03:10is.
03:11After years of being Sinema's ultimate villain, Vader finally redeems himself by saving Luke
03:16from the Emperor.
03:17The iconic mask finally comes off, and for the first time, we see the man behind the menace.
03:21And he's not some scary-looking authority figure, but a fragile, scarred, and ultimately human
03:34old man.
03:35And not only that, but he gets a moment of redemption by finally connecting with his long-lost
03:40son.
03:41He balances epic Star Wars drama with an oddly-touching family reunion, making it both heartbreaking
03:46and heartwarming.
03:46Vader dies, but you could certainly argue that he'd finally live.
03:50Number 7, Boromir, The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring.
04:05Number 7, Boromir, The Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of the Ring.
04:19Sure, he was a problematic figure of The Fellowship, and even tried to steal the One Ring for himself.
04:28But Boromir's final stand against the Yurkai is pure redemption, absolute Sinema you could
04:33say.
04:34Arrows pierced him again and again, yet he keeps fighting to protect Merry and Pippin in a noble
04:39effort to redeem himself from the Frodo fiasco.
04:42His sacrifice cements his place as a flawed but ultimately noble hero.
04:58And let's be honest, Sean Bean delivering that stirring farewell to Aragorn goosebumps every
05:04single time.
05:05And maybe a man tear or two?
05:07It's the perfect mix of tragedy, bravery, and cinematic legend.
05:11So iconic that it still echoes in memes, fan tributes, and teary-eyed rewatches.
05:16I would have followed you, my brother, my captain, my king.
05:27Number 6, Hans Gruber, Die Hard.
05:28It's only fitting that the most stylish villain in action cinema gets one of the most stylish
05:44deaths.
05:45Alan Rickman's smooth-talking bad guy meets his end falling from the top of Nakatomi Plaza
05:50and splatting on the ground below.
05:51Luckily, we're a spare of the grizzly sight.
05:54Happy trails, Hans.
05:58But what really makes this scene so iconic is the look of sheer terror on Hans' face as
06:03he begins to fall.
06:04It's an oddly humanizing moment and it supposedly came about because the stunt team dropped Rickman
06:09before the countdown was finished.
06:10The slow motion, the face, the music, the shot of Hans' flailing body falling down the skyscraper.
06:16How can someone not love this?
06:26Number 5, Cain, Alien.
06:38Poor Cain.
06:39His death is so iconic that most people don't even remember his name.
06:43They remember the thing that comes out of him.
06:45What starts as a cheerful crew mill quickly turns into one of the most infamously terrifying
06:50sequences in movie history.
06:51The directing, performances, and tone of whiplash are just out of this world good.
06:56What's the matter?
06:57The food ain't that bad, baby.
06:59One second Cain is laughing with his shipmates and the next a small alien is bursting from
07:04his chest cavity and spraying sad shipmates in blood.
07:07The gore and surprise factor were unlike anything we had seen in 1979 and the scene still has
07:12an incredible power to disturb, even half a century later.
07:16In a matter of seconds, Cain was gone and horror had a new benchmark.
07:20In a head seal, anybody want to see anything?
07:27Number 4, Jack Dawson, Titanic.
07:29Are you alright now?
07:30Are you alright now?
07:33Are you alright now?
07:36The bombast and spectacle of Titanic is certainly memorable, and Propeller Guy is pretty unforgettable,
07:42but it's the relationship at the heart of the movie that often gets remembered and referenced.
07:47Jack and Rose were always destined for failure, but seeing Jack slowly freeze to death hurt
07:51all the same.
07:52It's getting quiet.
07:54It's just gonna take a couple of minutes to get the boats organized.
08:02Numerous things about this scene have been ingrained in the cultural consciousness, from
08:05Rose's I'll never let go line, to the image of Jack sinking below the water, and
08:10of course, the seemingly endless debate about the door.
08:13It's not a great way to go for poor Jack, but at least he went out as the chivalrous
08:17hero and a pop culture icon.
08:24I'll never let go, I promise.
08:28Number 3, The Wicked Witch of the West, The Wizard of Oz.
08:31Everybody say it now, I'm melting, I'm melting, I'm melting.
08:39Those few words have transcended pop culture in ways that few other things have.
08:44Everyone knows it, and everyone can instantly picture the witch writhing her arms in agony
08:48as she slowly vanishes into a goopy puddle.
08:51How about a little fire, scarecrow?
08:55The death brings Dorothy's adventure to its triumphant climax, and it brings an end to
09:00one of cinema's greatest villains.
09:02It's campy, it's stagey, and it's completely unforgettable.
09:06More than that, her death is pure old-school Hollywood magic, a blend of inventive special
09:11effects, over-the-top theatricality, and timeless entertainment that can entertain the whole
09:16family.
09:17What a world!
09:18What a world!
09:19What a world!
09:20Who was not a good little girl like you who could destroy my beautiful wickedness!
09:24Ah!
09:25Look out!
09:26Look out!
09:27I'm going!
09:28Ah!
09:29Number 2, The T-800, Terminator 2, Judgment Day.
09:34Must go away, John.
09:35No!
09:36No, wait, wait, you don't have to do this!
09:40Sorry.
09:41No!
09:42Don't do it!
09:43Don't go!
09:44It has to end here.
09:46Few movie goodbyes hit as hard as the T-800's Farewell and T2.
09:51After saving Sarah and John from the T-1000, the heroic cyborg is lowered into a vat of
09:55molten steel in order to remove his CPU from the equation and save the future.
10:00No.
10:01There's one more chip.
10:06And it must be destroyed also.
10:13It's one of the most painful goodbyes in movie history.
10:15And he and John have developed a father-son bond throughout the course of the film.
10:19And the scene may remind viewers of saying goodbye to their own parents.
10:23And that image of the Terminator giving the thumbs up?
10:25Come on!
10:26What visual and action cinema is more iconic than that?
10:29And let's be honest, who hasn't done that in Nepal at least once in their lives?
10:34I know now why you cry.
10:38But it's something I can never do.

10:551.
10:56Marion Crane – Psycho
10:58Wouldn't it be better if you put her someplace?
11:04You mean an institution?
11:09A madhouse?
11:10This scene flipped the script on everything audiences thought they knew about movies.
11:15It's that influential.
11:17Hitchcock masterfully sets up this scene and pivots his entire movie around it.
11:21In the first half, we're following Marion's story and getting slowly absorbed in the exciting
11:25tale of her embezzlement, much like Hitchcock's earlier, more thriller-based films.
11:302.
11:31Is there?
11:32Is there one?
11:34I've told you there's nothing wrong, except that I'm in a hurry and you're taking up
11:39my time.
11:403.
11:41Now, just a moment.
11:42Turn your motor off, please.
11:43And suddenly, BAM!
11:44She's murdered.
11:45And that thriller turns into outright horror.
11:48Hitchcock didn't just kill off his protagonist, he upended the very structure of movie storytelling
11:53and did something we didn't know was possible.
11:55Add in that screechy violin, rapid fire cuts, and the taboo of showing such violence in 1960,
12:01and you've got movie history.
12:03I'm not even gonna swat that fly.
12:05I hope they are watching.
12:07They'll see.
12:08They'll see and they'll know.
12:10And they'll say, why, she wouldn't even harm a fly.
12:15How did you react to these deaths?
12:17Let us know in the comments down below.
12:18I have failed you all.
12:19No more, man.
12:20You fought bravely.
12:21No more, man.
12:22You fought bravely.
12:23No more, man.
12:24You fought bravely.
