00:00Chuck Schumer Claims Offices Targeted in Bomb Threats
00:04Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer announced Monday that three of his New York offices
00:08were targeted with emailed bomb threats referencing the 2020 presidential election.
00:14According to the Associated Press, the threats, sent from an email address claiming the 2020
00:19election was rigged, targeted Schumer's offices in Rochester, Binghamton, and Long Island
00:25with the subject line reading simply MAGA. Local and federal law enforcement responded
00:31immediately and are conducting full security sweeps, Schumer said in a statement. Everyone
00:36is safe and I am grateful for their quick and professional response to ensure these offices
00:41remain safe and secure for all New Yorkers. A law enforcement source confirmed that Suffolk
00:46County Police responded to the Long Island office but declined to provide further details because
00:51the investigation is ongoing. The U.S. Capitol Police also declined comment, citing security
00:57protocols for members of Congress. Schumer condemned the threats, emphasizing that violence has
01:02no place in American politics.
01:05These kinds of violent threats have absolutely no place in our political system, he said.
01:11The bomb threats come amid ongoing claims from President Donald Trump that the 2020 election
01:16was rigged or stolen. While Trump has repeatedly disputed the election results, courts rejected
01:23dozens of lawsuits challenging the outcome, and election officials certified the votes in
01:27all 50 states. Authorities continue to investigate the threats, and Schumer's offices are maintaining
01:33heightened security while the sweep of all locations is completed. The incidents underscore
01:39growing concerns over politically motivated threats against public officials, particularly in the context
01:45of ongoing misinformation about past elections. Schumer's statement thanked law enforcement for their
01:50swift response and called for vigilance to ensure that elected officials and their staff can operate
01:55safely without fear of intimidation.
