00:00This may be hard to hear, but these six signs mean someone is just days from death.
00:04And they're more common than you think.
00:06Hospice nurse Julie has witnessed hundreds of people take their final breath.
00:10And she says there are six signs that death is near.
00:13The first fevers.
00:15The body can no longer regulate its temperature.
00:18Your loved one may feel hot, but say they're cold.
00:21Or the opposite.
00:22Second, unconsciousness.
00:24They stop waking up.
00:26No eye contact.
00:27No responses.
00:28Just silence.
00:30Third, they stop eating and drinking.
00:33Because a dying body no longer craves food or water.
00:36This is a natural part of letting go.
00:39Fourth, skin changes called modeling.
00:41Hands, feet, knees, and even the nose may turn purple or gray.
00:45Veins become more visible.
00:47The body is slowly shutting down.
00:49Fifth, facial and muscle relaxation.
00:52Eyes may stay half open.
00:54Mouths may fall open, too.
00:55It can look scary, but it's not painful.
00:58And sixth, the death rattle.
01:01A wet, gurgling sound caused by saliva the body can't clear.
01:05They're not in distress.
01:06They're unconscious.
01:08It's just part of the final moments.
01:10As hard as it is to witness.
01:12Knowing these signs can bring peace.
01:14And remind us.
01:16That death, just like birth, has its own quiet language.
01:19See you next time.
01:20Let's listen.
01:25Hide.
01:32Let's continue.
