00:05Spider-Man Homecoming screenwriters Chris McKenna and Eric Summers are swinging back to write the sequel.
00:12The duo are in final negotiations to return to the world of Peter Parker and write the follow-up
00:16to the Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios blockbuster. McKenna and Summers hail from the comedy and
00:21animation world, having been writer-producers on American Dad, Community, and The Mindy Project.
00:26The duo worked on the Lego Batman movie and impressed both Sony and Marvel with their
00:31Homecoming work, who then also hired them for the studio's Jumanji Welcome to the Jungle
00:36and Ant-Man and the Wasp movies, respectively.
00:39Homecoming, a resetting of the Sony Spider-Man franchise that places the new movies within
00:43the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was a major hit for the studio, winning over critics and comic book fans.
00:49It spun over $319 million domestically at the box office and $737 million worldwide.
00:56Sony and Marvel are hoping to keep many of the creative elements of Homecoming together and are
01:01already in talks to bring John Watts back to the director's chair. Tom Holland is also set to
01:06return as the web-slinging hero.
01:08Spider-Man Homecoming 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on July 5th, 2019.
