00:40Crash, crash.
00:42Overflow, wow!
00:43This is what it is, isn't it?
00:44We find them, we lock them up.
00:48Coming up.
00:49Vehicles going through traffic cones.
00:51Still continuing.
00:53A cone-crushing runaway gets a bone-crushing
00:56close encounter.
00:57Get down now!
00:58Get your belly down!
01:00Get down, go back to it now!
01:02Move away from the door!
01:03A special op sees cops unleash the enforcer.

01:08Please!
01:09Please!
01:10Please!
01:11Get up!
01:12And a sunny evening in the park.
01:14I'm going to go down again.
01:15Turns cloudy for a suspected drug dealer.
01:18Wait!
01:19The class is back!
01:20Oh!
01:21I think he's very feverish his drugs are.
01:22Oh!

02:02Oh!
02:03Oh!
02:04Oh yeah.
02:05Oh.
02:06Oh.
02:07Oh!
02:08With the boot open, we've gone to basically put the car in the front and it's made off of us.
02:13Oh, OK.
02:16A local unit is hunting down a brand new VW Golf that's been reported stolen from a car rental firm.
02:24It's been counted as a fail to stop.
02:26Got to find it.
02:28We'll see if we can get it stopped and try and get a couple of bodies from it.
02:32Lachie is a taser-trained advanced driver who joined the force 19 years ago to help clean up the county's roads.
02:43His weapon of choice tonight is an unmarked Volvo.
02:48I don't know whether or not Amiga 5 would be worth keeping our eyes peeled.
02:52If it's hit Eurohub south, it could be heading towards Kettering.
02:57A handful of other units are now being drawn into the hunt.
03:01Including several armed response vehicles or ARVs.
03:06Shift, shift, shift.
03:07And that's not all.
03:10The wanted motor has just pinged an ANPR camera nearby.
03:15You can only go towards the A14 from the end of Rockingham Road.
03:20Now Lachie reckons he knows exactly where the golf will end up.
03:25Roger, I'm Northfield Avenue.
03:27And he's bang on the money.
03:296-5, contact, contact.
03:32Heading up towards the town, passing Prospect House to my offside.
03:37Lachie has slipped quietly in behind.
03:39And, for now, travelling incognito appears to be doing the trick.
03:45Unmarked.
03:46Do not believe they're aware of my presence.
03:49Speed 2-5.
03:50Low risk.
03:51For the interceptors, a pursuit is always the last resort.
03:57Left, left, left, left onto Field Street.
04:03So Lachie is happy to hang back, sit tight and wait for backup.
04:08I've not tried to light it up at this moment in time.
04:10Although vehicle is trying to put distance between it to right, right, right.
04:15Vehicle's now making off.
04:16The suspect is clearly spooked, leaving Lachie no option but to see what his Volvo can do.
04:24Rockingham Road, wait.
04:25Left, left, left.
04:26But this nippy Golf boasts 0-60 in under 9 seconds.
04:34Vehicle's failing to stop.
04:35It's a stolen VW Golf.
04:37Drivers are unknown.
04:39Unknown occupants believed to be two based on previous sites on my MPT.
04:43Approaching roundabout, wait.
04:45The roundabout up ahead, coupled with a build-up of traffic, gives Lachie a chance to gain some ground.
04:52Continuing Rockingham Road, Kettering out.
04:55Vehicle's still planning to stop.
04:57With an interceptor on his tail, the suspect's moves become increasingly desperate.
05:03Medium risk, over the roundabout, continuing Rockingham Road out.
05:08But something up ahead could work in the cop's favour.
05:12We're approaching the roundabout with road closures.
05:15Wait.
05:16Will the road work stop him in his tracks?
05:19Vehicle's going through traffic cones, still continuing.
05:23High risk.
05:25The Golf smashes through cones like a toddler in an ice cream parlour.
05:30We've gone left, left, left towards the A14.
05:33He's blasting down a quiet stretch of the dual carriageway, which offers ample opportunity to open the taps.
05:40Speed 120.
05:42No pedestrians and sights approaching the Junction 7, A14.
05:48Speed 110, medium risk.
05:53At north of 100, the Golf hurtles through a red and into the roundabout, where he almost becomes the filling in a tractor sandwich.
06:02Not one, not one.
06:03Not two, not two.
06:04Continuing around the A14.
06:05And his daredevil tactics are beginning to have serious consequences.
06:12I believe it's made contact with another vehicle.
06:16Navigating the roundabout at speed, the Golf clips an innocent motorist.
06:21But with an ARV unit now in support, is the tide turning back in Lockie's favour?
06:26We're now heading towards Corby on the A43, through the road to Clogers.
06:35Driving on a closed road may seem like a low-risk strategy.
06:38Unfortunately, it's anything but.
06:41No vehicles, however, we are going to be approaching workmen as we approach the Rocking Road roundabout at the other end.
06:48Half a mile up ahead, dozens of night shift workers are resurfacing the road.
06:55And Interceptor's job now is to calculate the risk.
07:01Confirm, you want an abort? Abort.
07:04A decision is made to stand down.
07:07But has the Golf gone for good?
07:09Speed 120, no pedestrians in sight.
07:32In Corby, a VW Golf that had been reported stolen was wreaking havoc on the roads.
07:37I believe it's made contact with another vehicle.
07:41But when it took off down a closed stretch of dual carriageway, Interceptor Chris Locke had to weigh up the risks.
07:48We are approaching the part of the road closure where there are going to be workmen.
07:54And the risk to pursue was deemed far too high.
07:58Vehicles continuing towards Kettering, I have aborted.
08:02Lockheed allows colleagues in an armed response vehicle to take over and they proceed with caution.
08:11But once through the road works, they floor it.
08:16Lockheed's playing catch-up, but moments later a flicker of blue catches his eye.
08:20Arm response cops have caught up with two lads who fled from the Golf.
08:36Put your hands behind your back.
08:39You nearly killed people driving through there, mate.
08:43That's two in cuffs.
08:45And it looks like it's way past this lad's bedtime.
08:48After the chaos they brought to the county's roads, the cops will have little sympathy.
08:59I'm in keen and in agony.
09:01That's all right, mate. We'll get a doctor to see you.
09:02I didn't even know what was going on. I'll sleep in the back in five minutes.
09:06Meanwhile, Lockheed's checking out the ditched motor.
09:11These two lads should be thankful they're not more seriously hurt.
09:14The manner of the driving from this car today, you've got rum in the car, grinder, all sorts of things.
09:26There's even a pair of sliders, which the young lad may need before he heads off to Kettering Nick.
09:34And with neither of them fessing up to being behind the wheel, both are under arrest for dangerous driving.
09:40Oh, going through road works, going through road closures, forcing its way through cones and other cars.
09:46Just complete disregard for anybody else on the road, let alone passengers in the car.
09:51Just disgusting behaviour, to be perfectly honest.
09:54The main thing is we've got people in custody.
09:56We're going to have to try and work out who we're driving.
09:58But the car's totaled. It's a brand new car.
10:01That's all wrecked.
10:03Other cars have been involved as well.
10:04So, all in all, high risk, hopefully high reward at this moment of time.
10:11Following a thorough investigation, police were unable to determine which of the lads was the driver.
10:16So they both received no further action for the driving offences.
10:19They also received no charge in relation to theft of a motor vehicle.
10:23It's Thursday afternoon and Interceptors Ian and Connor are getting packed and prepped for an intelligence-led job.
10:43They're part of a programme called Operation Revive, set up to tackle violent crime, drug dealing and child exploitation across the county.
10:53Today, they've got a warrant to conduct a raid on a residential address.
10:59So, the information and the intelligence that we've got so far for this is that it's being used through county lines.
11:07It's being used to cuckoo the resident.
11:11So, they're taking advantage of the resident to take over his flat.
11:14Cuckooing is a name given to the practice of a crime gang using a vulnerable or young person's home as a base for drug dealing.
11:23If there's reports of it happening within the community, the team have a duty of care to act and safeguard potential victims.
11:30This recent intelligence about there being machetes and firearms at the address, however, it doesn't need any specialist officers such as firearms or dogs to attend.
11:44To say Ian's got policing in the blood would be an understatement.
11:50Both his mum and dad were on the force.
11:55This boy is blue through and through and proud of it.
11:59Hoping to find from it drugs, cash, burner phones.
12:04The team don't know for certain how many people are inside the flat.
12:09But with reports of potential weapons, they can't take any chances.
12:14So, as we're approaching the address, we'll park out of the way and then we'll walk through.
12:19So, hopefully not be seen.
12:25With eight cops on the raid, they hope to have at least strength in numbers.
12:30Someone said they got the enforcer, hadn't they?
12:32And they've got the tools to help with a swift entry.
12:37Door's open.
12:39Yeah.
12:40Even though the front door has been left unlocked, up on the third floor, there's another one.
12:47And because of the intel, the team have got to get through it before anyone inside has a chance to react.
12:58I'm going to hate them.
13:02Yeah, I need the last bit out.
13:04Unfortunately, the lock won't budge.
13:12It's time to unleash the enforcer.
13:15Move away from the door!
13:16Start!
13:16Go!
13:19Go!
13:27Say that!
13:29Go ahead!
13:29It's all right, it's all right.
13:32Keep holdin'.
13:34What's up, bro?
13:34Sit down on the social media, it's a warrant.
13:36What for?
13:37We'll explain all the men.
13:38You guys want to take a seat in place, yeah?
13:40Sorry.
13:40Inside the flat, there's one woman, two men, and two dogs.
13:47And apart from the barking, there's no sign of any resistance.
13:53But one of the officers who stayed outside has spotted something.
13:57What's that?
13:58They said the bag's been thrown out.
14:02While cops are dispatched to retrieve the bag that was tossed from the window,
14:06the rest of the team turn their focus on the flat itself.
14:10Obviously, if there's nothing here, we'll be on our way.
14:13But we have to search first, don't we? We've got a warrant to search.
14:18Stashed in the lounge are a few bags of what appear to be mushrooms.
14:23There's a load of mushrooms that have been found in the garage.
14:25Yeah.
14:26My mate's friend used to grow them, and I put them in my bolognese.
14:31Bolognese? Mushroom bolognese.
14:34Dang it, mate.
14:35The man is claiming to use them in a special recipe.
14:40But judging by the current state of his frying pan, he's no Gordon Ramsay.
14:45Garlic, mushrooms, some meatballs, some pepper, some beef, mints.
14:51A nice bowl of nice sauce.
14:53Unfortunately for the bloke, the bag that was chucked from the window has just been located.
15:00You know, what was in the bag?
15:01Oh, it just looks like canvas, isn't it?
15:04It's more Class Bs.
15:06A decent find, but not the big score the team were hoping for.
15:11There's no weapons either.
15:12Unfortunately, no sign of anyone present being the victim of cuckooing.
15:16But there is something here that's ringing alarm bells.
15:22Is that your phone ringing?
15:23Not so sure.
15:25There's no one's phone. We can have it, can't we?
15:26Get it booked in and find the owner.
15:28Yeah.
15:29The phone and the drugs are being seized.
15:32The landlord is being called to fix the front door.
15:35And the three occupants are released for now, pending further enquiries.
15:40All in all, a mixed bag for the team.
15:42We didn't find what we were looking for, in terms of drugs today.
15:47But as we were going in, there was a big bag of cannabis was thrown out the window.
15:51We found some mushrooms.
15:54Typically for us, we're always after crack and heroin.
15:57That's what we really look for.
15:58He uses them for making bolognese.
16:00Although the boys and girls from Operation Revive specialise in proactive policing,
16:11they must also be ready to respond to other incidents at a moment's notice.
16:16It's now Friday.
16:28And Ian and Connor are heading back out in the unmarked.
16:33Yeah, someone's just rolling a flap on a motorbike and a wheelie up the road.
16:38A call's just come in that's piqued their interest.
16:41Yeah, he's still going to have jubilee.
16:42An off-road motorbike has been spotted driving erratically nearby.
16:49There was a bike pulling away.
16:50He's pulled a wheelie all the way down this road.
16:53It's gone straight over, so the cops are just going over that way to see if they can find him.
16:57There's another unit tracking the bike, and they've just clocked him riding into a park.
17:03So the park that he's coming in...
17:06..is this park here.
17:10Ian and Connor are closing in.
17:14Eyes left, boys.
17:16He's on there. He's on foot.
17:17The suspect has met up with some other lads in the centre of the park.
17:22I'm going to go down and get him.
17:25Buckle up, folks. We're going off-road.
17:32Go, go, go.
17:33He's running back down towards you.
17:40Fitness fanatic Connor loves the gym, hates drug dealers, and spends his spare time Thai kickboxing.
17:49So this lad doesn't stand a chance.
17:51Wait for 12 seconds.
17:56We're pretty feverish these drugs act.
17:57Why?
17:58We're doing nothing wrong.
18:00Why, you just see it right now.
18:01Yeah, you're out of the road.
18:02Get our hand out now.
18:03Come on.
18:04Boys, how's your stress?
18:07Drug dealers in this area.
18:08Wired your man off the road motorbikes.
18:09Right, drugs.
18:10Dangerously.
18:12For me.
18:12You've met up with a group of people in the park.
18:15I've seen police.
18:15I've looked up, I've seen police.
18:16You're immediately met up on foot.
18:18Let's get him moved to the side if you want.
18:19Yes.
18:21He's been nicked by Connor and two other cops simultaneously, and is apparently no stranger
18:27to the procedure.
18:28What's your name?
18:29I've just got out of the car yesterday.
18:32They've got the man and the machine.
18:35Yeah, they've got one detained.
18:37They've got the bike.
18:39The off-road bikes in Corby are a massive, massive problem.
18:42So if it's one more off the road, it's one more off the road.
18:45No one got hurt.
18:46And, as it turns out, this lad was well worth breaking a sweat for.
18:52As he's rather weird.
18:55Locked him up for dangerous driving and then doing the search on him.
18:59He's got a load of drugs as well.
19:00The lad's been found with what is suspected to be a quantity of cocaine.
19:06So he'll be arrested for the Pewits.
19:11He'll be arrested for the dangerous driving, because they saw him pulling the wheelies.
19:15He'll be taken to custody.
19:17I think he's just been released from custody, they were saying.
19:19So straight out, straight back in again.
19:21The bike, once Conor's hauled it back up to the road, is being seized.
19:32And now an ID check on the suspect has confirmed that not only is he disqualified from driving,
19:37but he's also just 16 years old.
19:40You get so many underage dealers now.
19:43You know, a lot of the gangs use them, because they know they're under 18 and they're not going to get treated the same way an adult would.
19:49You know, we've had runners as young as 11, 12 deals, because, from a policing point of view,
19:55they're hard to deal with, because they're generally vulnerable.
19:59And we have to look at them as a victim and a suspect at the same time.
20:02It's balancing it.
20:03The cocaine seized was estimated to have a street value of nearly 1,500 quid.
20:10Biker boy pleaded guilty to possession of Class A's with intent to supply, as well as the driving offences.
20:16He was banned for 31 months and had to pay £222 in costs.
20:22At the house raid earlier on, the men admitted possessing Class B drugs,
20:26but the matter was settled out of court with community orders.
20:30No action was taken against the woman.
20:33Still to come...
20:35Can you ask this lady, has she had anything to drink that's alcoholic?
20:40Cops beat the language barrier to nick a drunk driver.
20:44You failed this, so you're driving, so we need to go to custody.
20:48And...
20:49How fast do you think you were going?
20:5179.
20:52Try 115.
20:54A man in a hurry who refuses to learn his lesson.
20:58You're going to court for this.
21:00At that speed, that's the only option we've got.
21:03The roadside breathalyzer first hit our streets more than 50 years ago.
21:28OK.
21:30That's given me a reading of 103.
21:33You're under arrest on suspicion of driving a medical...
21:34Guys!
21:35Guys!
21:36I'm getting arrested!
21:38And since that day, annual road deaths have plummeted to just 18% of what they were in the 1960s.
21:45When was your last alcoholic drink?
21:47A couple of minutes.
21:48I'm a vodka limit, but I'm not.
21:50You think you will be?
21:51Yeah.
21:51But with around 40,000 drink drivers getting nicked each year, it's clear that for some motorists, the penny still hasn't dropped.
22:01Good morning.
22:02Can you get out?
22:03No.
22:04You can't get out?
22:05I don't know.
22:06Hello.
22:07Hello.
22:08Hello.
22:18Lots of shouting, arguing on the phone.
22:20It's Friday evening, mid-summer.
22:25Just roundabout, take the ride.
22:28Refusing to have their spirits dampened by the unseasonal weather are interceptors Stuart Wilson and Rachel McCready.
22:35So not this right, but the next one.
22:38Experienced cop Stuart is known for his friendly manner and unflappable demeanour.
22:45He's apparently got more patience than an NHS waiting list.
22:51He and Rachel have just been called to an incident in a residential street.
22:56This one.
22:58Where an altercation has apparently erupted between two motorists.
23:02Is this the car?
23:06That's the car.
23:07Hello.
23:12Hello.
23:13Who called us?
23:15You called us.
23:17So I've gone to Link's shop just there, yeah?
23:21I'm parked up, I'm just about to reverse out to go.
23:23And she's come zooming round the corner and went to hit me.
23:26So I've stopped, I've reversed.
23:28Yeah.
23:28And then she's carried on and crashed into my car.
23:33The crash happened outside a convenience store nearby.
23:36And after getting bumped, the driver of the black Ford Focus followed the alleged perpetrator to this street.
23:42She's damaged my car, yeah.
23:46Where is it?
23:46She drove into, nearly hit three cars on the way out.
23:49She drove into a bush.
23:50Even though I stopped.
23:51But as all cops know, there are two sides to every story.
23:56Unfortunately, Stuart seems to be struggling with the other one.
23:59I'll give you a phone, please.
24:03Okay.
24:04I'm sorry, please.
24:05Can you speak with this husband?
24:07My husband, my husband, can you speak?
24:10Hello.
24:11Hello.
24:11Sorry, mate.
24:12She doesn't speak any English.
24:14Okay.
24:14What language does she speak?
24:16Lithuanian.
24:17Lithuanian.
24:17No worries.
24:18I can get a translator and I can speak to her with a translator.
24:22Okay?
24:22I can help you.
24:23No, no.
24:24I need an independent party because an allegation's been made against her.
24:30Okay?
24:31In the UK, police can call upon a database of specially approved and accredited interpreters
24:37to help break down language barriers at the roadside.
24:41Allegedly, I think this lady's been driving, crashed into someone else.
24:46But, yeah, she doesn't speak any English.
24:48So it's one of those where we're just trying to piece together and see what happens.
24:53The first question Stuart wants the interpreter's help with is a pretty simple one.
24:58Can you ask this lady, has she had anything to drink that's alcoholic?
25:02No, please listen to me.
25:11No, no, you listen to me.
25:13I listen to you, but I won't understand because I'm shocking.
25:17I'm shocking.
25:18Right.
25:18This lady shouting on me.
25:20No, no.
25:20Calm down.
25:22Calm yourself down.
25:24I can speak.
25:25I can speak.
25:26The woman is clearly distressed, but she's not answering the question,
25:30so Stuart has to persevere.
25:33Can you ask her again?
25:34Has she had anything to drink in the last 20 minutes?
25:43She's saying that she's in a shock, she's having a headache.
25:46No, it doesn't matter.
25:48I think she's stalling.
25:50So I'm going to require a sample of breath for analysis at the roadside.
25:53I've already stated that to her.
25:56So without further ado...
25:58Deep breath.
25:59So, that's it?
26:05Keep going, keep going, keep going.
26:07Stop, stop.
26:07That's it.
26:08That's it, it's done.
26:09Anything over 35, and she's off to the nick.
26:15Okay, so that's come back as a fail.
26:17So the time's 20, 34.
26:19You're under arrest, okay?
26:21For driving whilst over the prescribed limit.
26:22So you don't have to say anything, but make harm your defence.
26:24I've got a translator, I'm trying to listen and take everything on board.
26:30We're trying to communicate with her, and I think what she's tried to do is stall and stall and stall.
26:34The woman's blown 57, well over the legal limits, and you can't argue with a breathalyzer.
26:41Or can you?
26:42So, Teda, she's under arrest, so she's going to be coming with us now.
26:46So, because you failed this, so you're driving, so we need to go to custody, and do an evidential one of these.
27:00So you can't make any phone calls or anything right now?
27:05No, you've just made a phone call, end it, and put it away.
27:08No, you can't, because you're under arrest, because you're under arrest, so no.
27:12The woman will be spending the rest of her Friday evening at the Nick, and the other driver, who has blown zero, is free to go.
27:25I mean, our job is essentially to arrest them and get them into custody, and then everything can be explained in more detail when we get there.
27:35People do all sorts of weird and wonderful things to try and delay that process.
27:40We do need to have a lot of patience.
27:44Mine was starting to run quite thin.
27:47When they get back to the station, the reality of the past couple of hours appears to catch up with the driver.
27:55But, after being examined by a healthcare professional, she's deemed fit enough to give an evidential sample of breath.
28:01I don't believe that this is going to be very easy at all.
28:09But, yeah, just be patient, and I'm sure we'll get there.
28:14Will Stuart's legendary patience hold out?
28:17I just need her to answer the questions that I'm putting to her.
28:22I want my phone call, and I won't talk to anyone.
28:30For 40 minutes, she refuses to answer any of Stuart's questions.
28:36I've asked several times.
28:38I've taken it as a refusal for the procedure.
28:44Failing to provide is as bad as a fail.
28:46I can be as patient with anybody.
28:51I will show them respect and dignity and understand the procedures.
28:55But at some point, I'm just going to have to call it, and that's what we've done.
29:01It is frustrating, because she could engage in the process and blow under.
29:08And then she could walk out and be absolutely fine.
29:12But now she's looking at a charge for failing to provide, so I'd like to think that she might learn her lesson.
29:17And hopefully she has.
29:21Maybe her punishment will do the trick.
29:23She pleaded guilty to failing to provide and was slapped with a 20-month driving ban,
29:28a community order, and fines of almost £200.
29:39Speed.
29:391-0-0 in the 5-0.
29:42It's by far the biggest killer on our roads.
29:45Yeah, he's lost a wheel now.
29:47It's in a hundred miles an hour on three wheels.
29:49That's just a long, easy one.
29:52And 2.4 million speeding tickets are issued in the UK every year.
29:57You've got a speeding conviction already?
30:00Please not take my driver's licence.
30:03If you're lucky, you'll only lose your licence.
30:06Box on lane three.
30:07If you're not, you could lose something much more precious.
30:12Crash, crash, crash.
30:14Vehicle's over time.
30:15The problem with speeding is the faster you go, the less time you have to react.
30:24You're decreasing your chance of being able to react to a situation.
30:28Very recently, we went to an address and had to say that the person had been killed on the roads.
30:38And fundamentally, it was down to speed.
30:41It's devastating for the families.
30:45It affects the officers who have to go and deliver that news.
30:50And it's such a tragic circumstance which needn't happen if people just reduce their speed.
31:01Wednesday, late shift.
31:07And interceptors Aaron Griff Griffiths and Scott Kimberley are cruising the M6 southbound at around 70 miles an hour.
31:16So, how fast must that Skoda VRS be going?
31:22Griffiths in the unmarked 3 Series, so powers up for a closer look.
31:28113.
31:29Yep.
31:30The Skoda's clocking triple digits.
31:34Number 11.
31:34Yeah, about 110, 110, 150.
31:40Nearly half of all drivers brake the speed limit on the motorway.
31:44But this chap clearly reckons he's king of the road.
31:49Initially, we've sort of clocked it, paced it at 113.
31:54And now it's slowed down to 90 to 100 mark.
31:58Obviously, it's just been caught in traffic.
32:02Back to 100 and increasing.
32:04Advanced driver Griffiths once saved someone's life at a road traffic accident
32:11and received a police commendation for his heroics.
32:18114.
32:19This car has seen up close the damage that speeding can do.
32:24I wonder if this person has just bought it.
32:26Potentially.
32:27It's a nice car.
32:2869-page VRS.
32:30Nice car.
32:31The sporty Skoda VRS has a 2-litre turbocharged engine.
32:36But that's no excuse for driving at these speeds.
32:40It looks like I'm on the south.
32:42Yeah.
32:42Rather than deal with him on the hard shoulder, the fellas need to find a safe place to pull him over.
32:49It'll get me to the Gap.
32:51It'll be easier, won't it?
32:52Yeah.
32:52With the exit for the Watford Gap services just a mile away, Griff makes his move.
32:59Can you give him some lights as well?
33:02Young lad.
33:03You need to prepare to follow me for me?
33:04Yeah, I will do.
33:05Some unmarked cars have an LED matrix in the rear window that instructs vehicles behind to follow me.
33:14You've got compliance?
33:16Yeah, I've got an airside.
33:17Lovely.
33:19And he's a name one.
33:22All that's left to do now is slowly reel him in.
33:25Yeah, he's committed.
33:27As hoped, the Skoda's parking up just outside the services.
33:31I'll let you have the honours.
33:36Although for the driver, this is unlikely to be a welcome break.
33:42Now, driver, turn your engine off for me, please.
33:45Take your belt off and jump out if you're happy with that, so I can chat to you.
33:50Bit easier than leaning in, then, isn't it?
33:51Putting my head in your car.
33:53Why is it that I've stopped you?
33:54I think so.
33:55Just a little bit.
33:56I'm not going to let you just do a little bit driving just behind and in front.
34:00I'm just back, just back a little bit down, calm, calm, comfortable, to be fair.
34:05Or maybe the insurance, just I bought a car.
34:07I can prove everything, just I've done all the insurance, everything.
34:09Sorry, OK, explain.
34:10Just so I bought a car, I know.
34:12As far as answers go, that was about as clear as a politician's.
34:16Time for Griff to play Paxman.
34:19OK, you've just bought the car.
34:20Yes.
34:20But why is it that I've stopped you today, do you think?
34:23Maybe a little bit speeding.
34:25A little bit of speeding.
34:26A little bit.
34:26How fast do you think you were going?
34:2789, 79, 90, 90, 90.
34:31Try 115.
34:34We've been following you since the M6 junction too.
34:35Yeah, I know.
34:36I see that, but just probably when I pass some cars, it's true.
34:40No, no, you were maintaining that speed.
34:43The chap now claims he was only speeding whilst overtaking.
34:47It's no excuse.
34:48And Griff's decidedly unimpressed.
34:51We've followed you for around about 15 miles almost.
34:56And you have consistently driven over the speed limit.
34:59So it's not just once or twice.
35:02Every opportunity that you've got, you've come back out into the outside lane and you've put your foot down as fast as you can.
35:07OK, and then you're going 110, 107, 115.
35:12You're going to court for this.
35:15You're going to court for this.
35:16I want to go really, please.
35:17At that speed on the motorway, that's the only option we've got.
35:21The bloke's not happy and to add a little extra salt to the wound, Griff's just pulled up his driving record.
35:28You've got six points for speeding in 2021.
35:34Speeding in a 50.
35:35How fast were you going then, out of curiosity?
35:39110 or something.
35:40110.
35:41OK, so.
35:42Exactly.
35:42It was busted doing more than double the speed limit just two years ago.
35:47So what would happen if you'd crash tonight?
35:49It might be that we'd have to go and tell your family that you're not coming home tonight because you've crashed your car over 100 miles an hour.
35:55I'm thinking about all the other road users that you share the road with.
36:00To have a licence is a privilege.
36:01With six points already on his licence, that privilege is now hanging by a thread.
36:06Keep going, keep going, keep going, keep going.
36:09A sample of breath comes back clean.
36:12And even though he bought the car this morning, he is fully insured.
36:16That's your licence back.
36:18When you rejoin, please drive the speed limit.
36:22OK?
36:22You're going to drive through another couple of police force areas.
36:26I can promise you they're probably not the only one that's probably got an unmarked car on the motorway.
36:30But you really need to think about it.
36:32So, with a court summons in the post and a stern word or two from Griff, he's free to go.
36:38And other road users will be hoping that this time he really has learned his lesson.
36:43He wanted me not to report him for the speeding because he said, you know, he's got a job, he uses his car to drive, he's got a wife, he's got kids at home.
36:54But, actually, when I, you know, I put it to him that what would happen if you crashed at that speed and you then, it was then a fatality and, you know, we have to go and tell your family.
37:05For me, it is the right choice that a magistrate in court can decide what penalty he should face.
37:16And he knows that price because he's been there before.
37:19So, he's going to have to go back there and now explain why he's back a second time for the same offence but at high speed this time.
37:27At court, the driver admitted speeding and lost his licence for six months.
37:33He was also ordered to pay a £807 fine and over £400 in costs.
37:39Maybe this time he's learnt a valuable lesson.
37:44Still to come.
37:45I wasn't going that fast at all.
37:47I've gone to overtake, I'm thinking I'm going straight and then boom.
37:51A demolition derby, but who's to blame, man or machine?
37:54That mountain bike's probably got better brakes than this.
38:22It's Sunday afternoon.
38:24It's about to be injured, come off a motorbike.
38:27The male that once did his name was approximately 20.
38:31Straight and bruised with small amount of blood.
38:33He's dizzy.
38:34Reports are coming in of a motorcycle crash on a housing estate on the edge of town.
38:39Apparently, the caller saying he was speeding and lost the control.
38:44Interceptors Keith Gay and Michael Hollowell are just a couple of miles away.
38:49If you pass that to us, we'll attend.
38:50Former London copper Michael is not only an advanced motorbike rider, but also a keen speed cyclist.
38:59When it comes to jobs on two wheels, Michael's your man.
39:02Motorbike is the side of my wall.
39:06Oh, OK.
39:07So he looks badly injured.
39:09And a young lad saying how much will it cost to fix it.
39:12So it may be that the lad, it may not have insurance and he's asking how much it is to fix it.
39:17So we shall find that out in a second.
39:24That'll be it then.
39:25At least just ride.
39:28When they get there, a local unit is already on the scene.
39:33It's a little lucky as what's going on.
39:35Well, Michael, it's not a pretty sight.
39:37Judging by the state of the wall, it's a miracle the motorcyclist is still standing.
39:48I wasn't going that fast at all.
39:49Well, you can be down here?
39:50Yeah, I was just coming down here, right?
39:52The car's gone to pull in here.
39:54Then as I've come down here, somebody's turned left but indicated at the last second.
39:59As they've indicated at the last second, I've gone to overtake them, thinking they're going straight.
40:02Yeah.
40:02And then boom.
40:02The lad swears he wasn't speeding.
40:06If that's the case, maybe he hasn't committed an offence today at all.
40:11So your bike registered to you?
40:14It's been reported already for a couple of days.
40:16It's in my name.
40:16Yeah.
40:17But I haven't got insurance, licence, tax emergency.
40:20Right, OK.
40:21Oh, dear.
40:22I've not yet got a bike.
40:23I've got a vehicle and you've hit it at 8.3.
40:25OK.
40:25You've got a tree.
40:26You're a fool.
40:27Sorry, I can't find that.
40:28Well, at least he's being honest.
40:30Yeah, so we've got a young lad here who says that he's been riding to the speed of the
40:37road and that a vehicle's caused him to go through a brick wall and into the side of
40:43a van.
40:43He's admitted that I have no insurance, tax, or MOT, so the bike's not fit for the road.
40:49To go up a curb and to hit a wall and to go through a van, there's got to be a bit of
40:54speed involved.
40:55There's no other vehicle involved, so it's all down to himself.
40:57So we'll just do some checks.
40:59That's why I'll check the vehicle to make sure it's a legit vehicle and fit for a purpose.
41:05Not only does the bike have no MOT, but it's riddled with rust and almost 30 years old.
41:11You don't see many old bikes like that, do you?
41:13More chrome than plastic.
41:15Not very unusual.
41:17Older bikes may hold visual appeal, but even when they're fully roadworthy, riders should
41:22be aware of the potential risks.
41:24This is an old drum brake, so it doesn't stop very well.
41:29Bikes nowadays have disc brakes front and back and probably double disc front and back as
41:35well, so much better stopping power than the old drum brakes from years ago.
41:41That mountain bike's probably got better brakes than this.
41:44A harsh but fair assessment.
41:50And it looks like the bike isn't the only thing that's battle scarred.
41:54Injury-wise for you, have you got, are you holding your arm out funny?
41:57My shoulders, I don't know.
41:58Can you not lift your shoulder at all?
42:00I think I've got a bit of whiplash, maybe.
42:02No, but you're not, you're not moving that.
42:03I know you're moving your hand.
42:04I can lift my arm, like...
42:05The lad is clearly struggling.
42:07It's all right, go on.
42:12Oh, my old back now.
42:16Is it just a bit stiff?
42:18Yeah, like, it's just muscle, I think.
42:20You sure?
42:20Yeah.
42:20He's putting on a brave face, but he'll need to be checked over by paramedics just in
42:27case, so a call is put in for an ambulance.
42:30I am released from here, right?
42:31Once we've got all your details, obviously we're going to have to recover the bike.
42:38The bike, unsurprisingly, is being seized and will only be released once the lad can prove
42:43he's fully insured and that the bike has been made completely roadworthy.
42:48But let's not hold our breath on that last one.
42:50Are you really going to want that back?
42:52Yeah, I'll fix it.
42:53Are you sure?
42:54Yeah.
42:55He's also promised the homeowner he'll pay for the van and wall repairs out of his own pocket.
43:01We'll make sure his details are correct.
43:03Yeah.
43:03And then if you need those details from us, we can give you those.
43:06Yeah, yeah.
43:06All right?
43:07Okay.
43:08And with that, it's pretty much job done.
43:11Is this the ambulance for him?
43:14Possibly.
43:14Yeah, yeah, looks like it.
43:16Look at that.
43:16All the things I hate is people are not insured.
43:19You know, they need to insure their vehicles.
43:21You've got to pay for that cover.
43:23If you can't afford it, don't ride it.
43:25And that bike doesn't look like it's fit for the road.
43:27And it's got no MOT.
43:28So I'm sort of thinking down the lines of it wouldn't pass no MOT.
43:32With medical assistance here and local cops happy to stay and tie up any loose ends, for the interceptors, it's time to hit the road, reflect on a job well done and reminisce about the good old days.
43:45My first bike was called a Fizzi, an FS1e, it was a 50cc.
43:54God, my first bike was a Honda C90.
43:57Plastic chicken.
43:58Plastic chicken.
43:58Yeah, red and white.
44:00Yeah, we used to muck around on them.
44:02Yeah, that bike won't be back on the road.
44:05I just do hope that he does pay that chap back his price to get his van repaired, because if he doesn't, I think you'll be looking for him.
44:13Yeah, yeah, I think so.
44:16The bike was never collected and was scrapped.
44:18For driving without a license or insurance and without a valid MOT, the lad had to pay over £1,600 and receive six points.
44:43The bike was not preparate, because it was better for himself.
44:49For driving without a license, he's laying around his house at least one time to receive six points.
44:52My Majesty is about to leave the machine
44:57to refresh at the main house until the island ends.
45:00Heil minut Vogeln ***
