00:00Keira Knightley is explaining why she won't return to movie franchises after starring in the Pirates of the Caribbean films.
00:08In a new interview with the UK Times, the actress credited the hit series of movies for making her into a household name,
00:14but also cited the franchise's popularity as, quote, the reason that I was taken down publicly.
00:19She said of the franchise,
00:21It's a funny thing when you have something that was making and breaking you at the same time.
00:25I was seen as, because of them, and yet because they did so well, I was given the opportunity to do the films that I ended up getting Oscar nominations for.
00:33She continued,
00:34They were the most successful films I'll ever be a part of, and they were the reason that I was taken down publicly, so they're a very confused place in my head.
00:42The experience was so jarring that Knightley has no interest in returning to movie franchises.
00:47She said,
00:47The hours are insane. It's years of your life. You have no control over when you're filming, how long you're filming, what you're filming.
00:54Knightley also shared that she has become more particular about her career choices after welcoming two daughters with her husband.
01:00She explained,
01:01I couldn't go job-to-job abroad now. It wouldn't be in any way fair on them, and I wouldn't want to.
01:06I've chosen to have children. I want to bring them up, so I've had to take a major step back.
01:11Knightley's latest project, the series Black Doves, will be available to stream on Netflix on December 5th.
