Beckett Cypher, Melissa Etheridge’s son with her former partner Julie Cypher, has died. He was 21.

00:00Singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge is mourning the loss of her son, Beckett Cipher, who sadly died at the age of 21.

00:07Cipher was the son of Etheridge and her former partner, Julie Cipher.

00:10Etheridge paid an emotional tribute to her son in a statement posted to her social media,

00:14sharing that he had tragically succumbed to addiction.

00:17Today, I joined the hundreds of thousands of families who have lost loved ones to opioid addiction.

00:22My son Beckett, who was just 21, struggled to overcome his addiction and finally succumbed to it today.

00:27She continued saying he will be missed by those who loved him, his family and friends.

00:32My heart is broken. I am grateful for those who have reached out with condolences and I feel their love and sincere grief.

00:39We struggle with what else we could have done to save him and in the end, we know he is out of pain now.

00:43I will sing again soon. It has always healed me.

00:46The singer-songwriter and Cipher had two children together, a daughter, Bailey, and son, Beckett.
