00:37Orange is the New Black transgender star and activist Laverne Cox said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter,

00:49that our lives, our safety and service are less valuable and unwanted in this country,
00:54the country I love and hold so dear.
00:57Caitlyn Jenner tweeted,

01:08We should be grateful to the people who wish to serve, not turn our backs on them.
01:12Banning transgender people is hurtful, baseless and wrong.
01:16Outspoken actor and activist George Takei tweeted,
01:19Donald, with your ban on trans people from the military, you are on notice that you just pissed off the wrong community.

01:27Alyssa Milano and The Daily Show both posted a tweet Trump shared in 2016, saying he will fight for the LGBT community.

01:37Seth Rogen and James Corden recalled a tweet that Ivanka Trump posted in June of this year, saying she is proud to support LGBTQ Americans.

01:52Hope all is good.

01:54Can you, erm, call your dad and have a talk?
01:57Former Vice President Joe Biden joined the chorus on social media saying,
02:01Every patriotic American who is qualified to serve in our military should be able to serve. Full stop.
02:06Trump did not say what would happen to the transgender people who are already in the military,
02:11plans to implement the ban.
02:13A Randcorp study from 2016 estimated that there are about 1,320 to 6,630 transgender personnel in active duty.
02:22The study observed that the monetary costs of allowing transgender people to openly serve would likely be low,
02:28estimating that annually only 29 to 129 active service members would seek care disrupting their ability to deploy.
02:35As of Wednesday morning, the official Department of Defense policy on transgender service members remained unchanged on its website.
02:42The Pentagon is referring all questions about Trump's announcement to the White House,
02:46and the White House has yet to release an official statement.
