This is the incredible moment an ostrich outran a hunting cheetah in the animal kingdom’s fastest footrace.
Jaycee Botha was in South Africa’s Kruger National Park when a big cat set its sights on a large meal.
Dramatic footage captured the cheetah as it launched its assault on a flock of ostriches, leading them to scatter.
The cheetah pursued one of the flightless birds who dodged and weaved in a desperate and ultimately successful attempt to avoid being dinner.
Jaycee said: “It was our first cheetah ostrich chase and it was exhilarating.
“On one side you had so much hope for the cheetah and on the other you were scared for the ostriches' lives.
“There were more than seven ostriches, but the cheetah chased only one specific bird.
“Cheetahs don’t hunt them regularly, mostly because ostriches are much bigger than cheetahs and there is a big risk factor when hunting these animals.”
