A brave bullfrog fought off a massive bird singlehandedly by jumping at its face.

Michael Rothman, 32, was on safari in Kruger National Park, South Africa, when he spotted a hamerkop towering over a prospective meal.

Dramatic footage shows the huge animal pecking mercilessly at the bullfrog, even picking it up the potential snack in its great beak.

Determined not to become dinner, the raucous reptile repeatedly leaped up at the bird’s face causing it to flap in the air before finally giving up.

Michael said: “It was an unbelievable sighting that I had never seen before and couldn't believe that the bullfrog never gave up.

“I was really surprised the frog survived. He kept jumping up at the hamerkop and never gave up.

“Their fight carried on for about 30 minutes until the frog managed to get into the water and swim away.

“The hamerkop kept searching for its lost snack but never found it again.”
