00:24The recent passage of the Tifon Kalmarahi has caused intense flooding that left at least 114 dead and around 127 missing persons,
00:38in addition to thousands of homes damaged in the central regions of the country.
00:45The tragedy is linked to a massive corruption scandal in which public funds intended to flood control projects were diverted or misused,
00:59leaving entire communities vulnerable to increasingly intense natural disasters.
01:07In response, citizens have mobilized themselves in mass.
01:13This week, tens of thousands of people marched in Manila, in the capital of the country.
01:20And in September, the Barra Saloneta protest brought together nearly 100,000 demonstrators.
01:29Various sectors of the society participated, as students, unions, civil organizations and religious groups included the Know Christ Church,
01:42which has organized a rally of up 650,000 participants.
01:50Besides justice for the lives that have been lost, the protests have demanded the renunciation and the resignation of the President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
