00:00Starting January 2026, the Land Transportation Office, or LTO, will begin apprehending users of e-bikes and e-trucks on national highways.
00:10The agency, however, will first intensify its information campaign, working together with deputized law enforcers to ensure that the public receives accurate information before the policy is fully implemented.
00:23Our Bernard Ferrer fills us in with the details.
00:30Kenneth breathed a slight relief after the LTO postponed the apprehension of e-bike and e-trike users on national highways.
00:37E-trike Kenneth uses is said to be a big help to his family.
00:41Malaki kasi ito nagagamit ko pang atit sundo sa anak ko sa school.
00:45Minsan ginagamit ko pang atit sa trabaho ng asaho.
00:48Aside from being practical, it also saves him money on a daily basis.
00:53Previously spent up to 100 pesos on gasoline for his motorcycle over three days.
00:58Now, his e-trike only cost 15 pesos per charge.
01:02Kenneth supports registering his e-trike.
01:04But he hopes the LTO will ease the requirements and speed up the process.
01:08Ito na nakakatipid yung mga tao ngayon, kaya sila bumili ng e-bike para makatipid din sa gasolina, pumasaya, ganyan.
01:15Maganda na yung malaking tulong niya ng e-bike.
01:17Although the apprehension scheduled for Monday did not push through,
01:21the LTO will intensify its information campaign to prepare the public ahead of the policy's implementation on January 2, 2026.
01:29This is also in line with the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marquez Jr. to the Department of Transportation.
01:35The LTO will release updated guidelines to clearly indicate where light electric vehicles or LEVs are allowed to travel and where they are prohibited.
02:00The guidelines will also specify the fines to be imposed and the process of registering e-bikes and e-trikes.
02:06The LTO previously explained that the ban on LEVs on national highways is due to the increasing number of accidents involving e-bikes and e-trikes.
02:14Meanwhile, the LTO has impounded nearly 30 luxury vehicles and separate operations across Metro Manila.
02:20All of these vehicles were found unregistered and many of the drivers were without a driver's license or could not present official receipts or certificates of registration.
02:31Three of the confiscated luxury vehicles are currently being verified for smuggling.
