00:00All those that seek Parapata
00:03Shall surely perish
00:05Okay, I am ready for my parents to come and get me now. You have nothing to worry about. I promise. I mean, there's no need to overreact
00:21Hi, I'm Eugenio Derbez and I'm in a studio with the Hollywood Reporter
00:30All right, we're talking about Dora the Lost, Dora and the lost city of gold. Yeah
00:37What an amazing movie and so exciting. This is is this the first live-action Dora the Explorer movie?
00:44It is it is and and it's it's kind of different from it's very different actually from the
00:50The original one from the cartoon the cartoon is more
00:53simple the the the story line is more simple of course and the character is just
01:012d and
01:03It's an just an eight-year-old kid that is trying to figure out some stuff, but the movie is
01:09Really different. It's the character is more three-dimensional. Yeah, now you can know her now. She's a teenager of course and
01:17and she's facing the world for first time in her life and
01:22So she's getting out of the jungle finally and
01:26You're able to know her background her parents her friends and
01:33How is how is
01:36How she became the this icon and this
01:40Role model that she is right now, so it's very interesting
01:42Yes, and it's so fun to have to see Dora's
01:47Personality fleshed out she is so funny
01:50It's really such a funny character. It is yeah, what what are your favorite things about Dora just the character of Dora?
01:57What do you like about her? Well, my favorite part in the movie especially is when they mock the cartoon at the beginning
02:04yes, because
02:06Everyone was asking me the same question. Are we gonna see the map and the backpack and are they gonna talk and is she gonna be
02:12Asking everyone can you say delicioso and then she does but in a very funny way like making fun of the cartoon
02:21So and and as soon as you start watching the movie you understand that they're
02:27Laughing of themselves, so that's a good thing. Yes, there's some fabulous Easter eggs
02:33For people who are fans of Dora or grew up with Dora absolutely 100%
02:37Yeah as executive producer you have you have a lot of power
02:41In the making of the movie, so why did you choose Alejandro as your character?
02:46I mean he kind of gets put through the ringer
02:49Well, I wanted to play Dora, but they didn't
02:53You know I tried many many weeks in shorts and
02:58It doesn't look good so I finally said okay. Okay. I'll do Alejandro
03:01No, I think it was perfect for me. It wasn't like the right role and
03:09And it's it's very interesting. I'm played this mysterious
03:14Tour guide that it's a leading the kids through the jungle, but
03:21You'll see that I'm not very good at it, so
03:25What he seems exactly it's not what what I seem but I don't want to
03:29Spoil anything, but uh, but you'll see it's where it's a very mysterious tour guide
03:34All right, and and the kids get get into quite the adventure
03:37I mean once you go into a jungle there's all the things that can go wrong
03:42Once you're exploring a jungle
03:45So I mean your character has a couple of things happen to him that are not very pleasant
03:50Exactly one and let me tell you something we went through everything
03:54Everything you see in the movie everything. I mean
03:58first of all we were shooting in the jungle in the real jungle we were in Australia for almost five months and
04:05We were in the middle of nowhere. There was no Wi-Fi
04:09No cell phone signal nothing and
04:13And it was kind of scary because you know in Australia every animal wants to kill you
04:18Yes
04:19It's really dangerous. It's a lot of poisonous animals a lot a lot, but uh, we survived the shooting
04:27It was a lot of fun, but but uh, but I like that that everything that you're watching on screen is real and
04:34And we had our own stunts, but uh, we didn't use them. So
04:39Everything you see is it's us. Wow. We were doing our own stunts. Oh, wow. Yeah
04:45Wow, okay, so yeah, there's a there's a couple of scenes that I'm thinking of where I'm if you did your own stunts
04:51I you're a very brave man
04:52Well, let me tell you I I I swallowed there's a scene
04:57I'm not gonna be you give you a lot, but there's a scene when I'm in it in the quicksand and
05:03and and uh
05:04You can't imagine how much quicksand and water and dirty water I swallowed
05:10During the shooting that scene. Oh my god, and it because we were shooting for like an entire week
05:15Yeah, so it was really really hard. I had quicksand for like a week later
05:21I still was finding quicksand all around my body
05:25Oh, wow were you a fan of adventure movies growing up because this movie reminds me of so many movies that I grew up with
05:33Indiana Jones absolutely Indiana Jones actually my character is dressed
05:37uh, like in gent Indiana Jones
05:39uh, like an kind of an homage to him and yes, of course, I grew up watching Indiana Jones and
05:48Raiders of the Lost Ark and
05:50All these movies and Jumanji
05:52It has like a mix of everything so
05:56I'm I'm thrilled to be part of this I always wanted to be
06:00Part of a moodlet for movie like this to be in an action movie and this is my first time so I'm very happy
06:06Wow amazing
06:08Uh, yeah, well, uh, I also want to talk a little bit about uh, Dora's experience
06:12Like I said the character is so funny and so charming
06:16Um, when you first started filming scenes with Isabella, what was it like? What were your impressions of her?
06:22Well, uh, this is the first time I worked with with her. I heard about her
06:28But until I was on set I I remember my first day coming back to my apartment in
06:35in Australia
06:36And my wife came with me and I was like
06:39She was she the first thing she asked me was like, how was your day? And we're like, I'm worried
06:44She was like, why are you worried?
06:46Because
06:47The kids are amazing. I mean, they're really good. They're great comedians great actors
06:53Um, they're fantastic the energy the everything they're amazing
06:58So I was really surprised by them
07:01Since the day one Isabella is so talented
07:06And not
07:07Not only as an actress, uh, she's an amazing singer and a great great dancer
07:12And composer and she does everything she's amazing
07:17Uh, you know in her character Dora has such a fish-out-of-water story
07:22She moves to los angeles and becomes a high school student after living in in the jungle
07:28And uh, so there's this great kind of
07:31Storyline of her being the oddball
07:34In her high school in los angeles
07:36Do you have any stories about when you moved to los angeles if you had any fish-out-of-water stories?
07:42All the time
07:43Yeah
07:43Until now
07:45I mean, uh, when I came here to to la
07:50Five years ago when I moved here
07:53It's been an adventure since then because
07:56English is not my first language as you can tell
07:59I'm still learning it
08:01And
08:03Every time I go to meeting or something is is I feel like a fish out of water
08:08I
08:09Sometimes you know what it's let me tell you the story. This is really funny
08:13Uh, of course I have sometimes I get invited to some uh parties
08:17Cocktail parties meetings, whatever
08:20And then I go I hate to go to these parties
08:24Even though I I can probably meet producers or or huge Hollywood stars
08:30I hate it because it's crowded it's noisy and English is not my first language
08:35So I had I have a hard time understanding what they're telling me
08:39So I every time I go to a party like this I have something to eat
08:43So if they ask me something and I don't understand the question I do
08:46You know what? I'm going to steal that
08:57Yeah, it's really good
08:58It's genius
08:59Every time I they start asking me something
09:02I I I invite someone
09:04I'm gonna
09:06If I understand I said oh, yeah
09:08If I don't understand I'm like
09:09Hmm. Hmm. Hmm. Oh, so you're and I got grabbing information here and there. Oh, so you're yesterday
09:19Yeah, yeah, so I guess they what did I do yesterday? So I start like you know when I was
09:26Shooting Dora
09:28I didn't understand 50% of what the director was saying because he's British
09:33And he has a very thick accent and he speaks very fast very quick
09:38So, uh, I was like
09:41And I was like, oh my god, what did he say?
09:43And I was constantly asking everyone
09:46What did he say?
09:47Well, what would you like Dora's next adventure to be?
09:52Huh, well at the end of
09:55I don't want to spoil it again anything but uh
09:58But I think that
10:00She's an expert in in in the jungle and
10:04Now her biggest challenge is to explore
10:08high school
10:09And society so this is was like the first like attempt to
10:16Explore um
10:18Indigenous how what they call the the students she says i'm gonna stay at the high school because I want to to explore the indigenous people in
10:26At the high school so uh
10:28I think she needs to learn more about society and behavior human behavior especially
10:34And because she's been like also isolated in the jungle so
10:38I I would like to
10:40Keep her like around the city and see how she behaves in the city with other people
10:45I definitely I think it would be fun to see Dora explore
10:49Los Angeles exactly maybe the arts district
10:52Exactly something like that yeah definitely
10:55Thank you so much for being here the movie is Dora and the lost city of gold out in theaters
11:00August 9 don't miss it
