J.J. Abrams on Monday dropped by 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert' and talked about his upcoming Star Wars film, 'The Rise of Skywalker,' and an uncanny message the late actress left to him that he now understands.

00:11The late Carrie Fisher appears in The Rise of Skywalker thanks to unused scenes she shot
00:15for The Force Awakens. And it sounds like she knew something about the final film in
00:19the Skywalker series before anyone else did. When J.J. Abrams dropped by The Late Show
00:24with Stephen Colbert on Monday, he spoke about the uncanny message the late actress left to
00:28him that he now understands.
00:30While talking about how much he misses Fisher, who died in 2016 at the age of 60, Abrams recalled
00:35working with her on his first Star Wars film, The Force Awakens. According to Abrams, he wasn't
00:40supposed to direct The Rise of Skywalker, but it seems Fisher somehow knew the director would
00:44return for the film. Abrams said,
00:46"...she passed away before Last Jedi was released. She wrote this autobiography, The Princess Diarist.
00:51And I remember reading in the end, a special thanks to J.J. Abrams for putting up with me twice."
00:56"...and I had never worked with her before, Force Awakens, and I wasn't supposed to direct
01:00Episode 9. And it was a very Carrie thing to write something like that and to somehow know."
01:07The Disney film hits theaters on December 20th.
