00:00And I still can't quite believe that she's gone, because we've been working on these
00:05scenes in editorial and she's as there as anyone. It's really uncanny."
00:11The late Carrie Fisher appears in The Rise of Skywalker thanks to unused scenes she shot
00:15for The Force Awakens. And it sounds like she knew something about the final film in
00:19the Skywalker series before anyone else did. When J.J. Abrams dropped by The Late Show
00:24with Stephen Colbert on Monday, he spoke about the uncanny message the late actress left to
00:28him that he now understands.
00:30While talking about how much he misses Fisher, who died in 2016 at the age of 60, Abrams recalled
00:35working with her on his first Star Wars film, The Force Awakens. According to Abrams, he wasn't
00:40supposed to direct The Rise of Skywalker, but it seems Fisher somehow knew the director would
00:44return for the film. Abrams said,
00:46"...she passed away before Last Jedi was released. She wrote this autobiography, The Princess Diarist.
00:51And I remember reading in the end, a special thanks to J.J. Abrams for putting up with me twice."
00:56"...and I had never worked with her before, Force Awakens, and I wasn't supposed to direct
01:00Episode 9. And it was a very Carrie thing to write something like that and to somehow know."
01:07The Disney film hits theaters on December 20th.
