The air force chief of staff confirmed that the first batch of the 66 long-awaited F-16V fighter jets purchased from the US are scheduled to have test flights this month. All 66 jets were due to be delivered next year.

Washington agreed to sell 66 of the planes to Taipei for $8 billion in 2019, originally all scheduled to arrive here by the end of next year.

Although that deadline is unlikely, military officials say 54 of them are currently in production.
