Starmer 'proud' of economic policies in Budget

Sir Keir Starmer says he is "proud" of scrapping the two child limit, raising the national minimum wage and more economic decisions taken in the Budget because "that is what a Labour government is for". 00:00And so, yes, I am proud. I'm proud we scrapped the two-child limit.

00:05I'm proud we're lifting over half a million children out of poverty.

00:09Proud we raised the national minimum wage again.

00:12That is what a Labour government is for, making life better for working families,

00:17unlocking their potential and giving our children a fair chance to get on.

00:24And that is the story of the budget.

00:27There were necessary choices. Of course there were.

00:32Fair choices, I would argue.

00:36Tax rises do make life harder for people.

00:39I understand that. It's obvious.

00:43And I'm not going to pretend that there aren't alternatives.

00:48Politics is always about making choices.

00:51We could have cut public services.

00:54We could have ignored child poverty.

00:58We could have rolled the dice with extra borrowing.

01:02But I firmly believe that those options have been tested to destruction.
