00:00Striking actors who planned on dressing up as Barbie or Ken this Halloween are going to have to rethink their costumes.
00:07SAG-AFTR has issued some strict costume guidelines for celebrating the spooky holiday amid the ongoing strike, and some actors are calling them out.
00:14The union is prohibiting actors from dressing up as popular characters from struck content, like the Barbie movie or Netflix's Wednesday, and then posting the images on social media.
00:23Instead, the guild told members on Thursday to quote, choose costumes inspired by generalized characters and figures, ghost, zombie, spider, etc.
00:32SAG-AFTR says members can dress up as characters from non-struck content, like an animated TV show.
00:38However, Marvel superheroes are not allowed despite having comic book roots because they're owned by Disney.
00:43The union wrote, let's use our collective power to send a loud and clear message to our struck employers that we will not promote their content without a fair contract.
00:50Some actors quickly took to social media to call the rules over the top.
00:54Mandy Moore wrote on her Instagram story,
00:56Is this a joke? Come on SAG-AFTR, this is what's important? We're asking you to negotiate in good faith on our behalf.
01:03So many folks across every aspect of this industry have been sacrificing mightily for months.
01:08Get back to the table and get a fair deal so everyone can get back to work.
01:12Meanwhile, Ryan Reynolds mocked the rule on X, writing,
01:14I look forward to screaming scab at my 8-year-old all night.
01:17She's not in the union, but she needs to learn.
