The National Electoral Council of Honduras released the first preliminary results of the general elections this Sunday night, showing Nasry Asfura of the National Party leading the presidential race with 36 percent of the vote. Ruling Libre Party candidate Rixi Moncada immediately denounced fraud in the bulletin, warning that the process has been marked by media war, misinformation campaigns, interventionist attempts, and destabilizing actions by the far-right. At 10:30 p.m. Tegucigalpa time, the official report placed conservative candidate Salvador Nasralla of the Liberal Party behind Asfura. More than six million Hondurans were called to the polls in an election seen as decisive for the country’s political trajectory. Moncada has presented a government plan centered on defending public assets, investing in education and health, maintaining public enterprises to guarantee essential services, and promoting economic democratization so that “wealth goes to everyone,” with support for women entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized businesses.
