00:00Raiders of the Lost Ark was the thing where I was like, I want to do that. I remember thinking,
00:17I think maybe archaeology is, and then I saw real genius and I was like, you know what,
00:22I want to start inventing things. And then eventually it was like, I think I just want
00:26to be an actor. It's West Side Story. When I was a kid, I was like in fifth grade and I did that show
00:31the first time and it was the first time I felt like I was really feeling actual emotions. The
00:37movie that I did see for the first time and I felt like, oh, this man is speaking to me. I understand
00:44him. It's Tender Mercies. And it was Robert Duvall that I became obsessed with. He was my hero.
00:53I saw a production of a Midsummer Night's Dream at the Olivier Theatre when I was a kid. And
01:00Timothy Spore was playing Bottom. And I was completely stunned by him.
01:04For me, acting was making sure I was around my dad, making sure I could have a connection,
01:13not just with him, but with his world. It was more about belonging to that family, more of a kind
01:18of like a circus family who's moving and you just don't want to be left out and you're enjoying,
01:24you know? Actually, it was a friend of mine in college. They put on a play. I said to myself,
01:31I can do that at least. He was awful. The most essential thing that I have always put in is
01:38I'm so bad with names and faces. I need a kind of name of every single person on the cast and crew
01:45so that I can try and remember people's names, which normally by the end of the shoot, I've got down
01:50just in time for it to be useless. You know what I do? Like it's Topo Chico, the sparkling water.
01:58I drink a lot of it. Tennis rackets and tennis balls and all kinds of stuff that made me feel like
02:03it was Eric's room. I like cooking, so I bring my knives. I don't know why, but that keeps me sane,
02:09you know? Having one or two pictures of your kids and something that you can connect easily with
02:15and remind you what you're going back to soon, you know? And a nice pillow. You know, I generally
02:21just have a computer and, you know, like anyone else, a couple books. It's always useful to have
02:27like the script that you're working on. I find that that's helpful. I have this van that is
02:33an extension of my home and my family is in that van with me now whenever I'm not at home
02:40and I go, I carry it to pretty much everything that I do. I've just spent the last six months
02:46doing Fallout, going to it every day and I can't tell you what it has meant to my peace of mind.
02:54Using it as a trailer is something that means a great deal to me.
03:00If I could switch jobs with any profession for just one day, it would be like a White House
03:07correspondent. Not now, really, because it would be a bummer. Maybe in like 1987 or something,
03:13like during Iran Contra, that would have been really fun.
03:15I think I would do music. I think I would want to be like a rock star, play Coachella.
03:20For many years, I thought like I could be a good soccer player, but I was obviously lying
03:28to myself. My kids are 14 and 16 and their lives are starting to like get away from me,
03:35so I'll try to find a job that gets me closer.
03:38I work for the Washington Gas Company. It was like being a pirate, you know, in a truck all
03:44day with a bunch of hooligans. It was the best gig I ever had, man. So if I could do
03:49that one more day again, I'd ride the truck with the boys.
03:52I've always dreamt of being a pizza maker at Pizza Express. And I have a friend who was
03:58a pizza maker at Pizza Express and says it gets pretty boring after the first day. So I
04:02would love to do it just for a day.
04:03I actually enjoy just puttering around the house, in the backyard, listening to podcasts.
04:11It sounds like I'm 77 years old and sometimes it feels that way, but I like just being around,
04:17like not leaving my house and just finding things to do around.
04:21Tennis, maybe a little like hot tub vibe. Oh, I usually play volleyball on Sundays.
04:27I'd be sleeping right now. I would be asleep probably now and then cook some breakfast but
04:35eat it around 2 p.m. Try to stay as close as possible to a bed and not move around. That's
04:42a perfect Sunday for me. This morning I went for breakfast and I bumped into Gwendolyn Christy,
04:47who is the person you want to bump into at breakfast. She's so full of joy and exuberance.
04:55We had breakfast together and I could have stayed there all day.
04:58Keep them talking. Just keep fucking going. What else we got?
