00:00Thailand now with flawless beaches this is my paradise bustling cities and hedonistic parties
00:12More of us are embracing this rite of passage than ever before
00:20So I'm traveling from the capital Bangkok to exotic islands
00:26To understand why we're coming
00:30What does she mean by that sure and what we're looking for a lifestyle where you're not only free to be a man
00:36You're encouraged to do so I've never been backpacking
00:40So I'm going to throw myself into everything on offer fear of connection with your breasts with your female body and meet those building a whole
00:48New life here. I decided just sell everything buy one-way ticket and just come here and try and make it work to find out if it
00:55lives up to the hype I've been in Thailand for less than 24 hours and I've nearly got arrested and if there's
01:01another side to this paradise
01:04He smashed a bottle and then stabbed me in the neck
01:08My brother was murdered it wasn't an accident
01:10Like most Brits I'm starting my Thai adventure in the capital Bangkok
01:24Most travelers stop here for at least a few days to soak up the mix of ancient temples
01:28Vibrant street markets
01:34And of course the city's infamous nightlife
01:39The sex industry is something that I'm particularly interested in looking into because it's something that comes hand in hand with Bangkok
01:46People will talk about the women and the shows and it seems people come here to have these experiences
01:54And I think it'll be interesting to find out how much of that is true
02:02But first i'm heading to one of the most famous streets in asia where travelers come to party 24 7
02:09backpacker hotspot khao san road
02:12i want to have the authentic
02:15backpackers experience you know i went straight into work when i was 18. I never took a year out
02:21i never stayed in a hostel so it's going to be a new experience for me
02:29also one of the reasons why i wanted to come here now is because i have no responsibilities
02:35sorry i'm a free bird a free woman
02:39hello
02:42revolution is a party hostel attracting travelers from around the world
02:46hi welcome to revolution thank you do you have a reservation yes i do amazing there you are now
02:54like to follow me to your room
02:5621 year old chloe is one of the british reps who look after guests in exchange for free accommodation
03:02okay so here we have the eight bed dorms
03:05these are 14 pounds per night 14 pounds a night well that's cheap when it's low season the prices maybe
03:12come down to about eight pounds a night okay wow i've decided to splash out an extra 22 pounds
03:18for one of the hostel's 18 ensuite rooms of course you have just the bathroom there and towels just
03:25there it may be quite loud here because it is on khao san road which is the loudest road on bangkok
03:30and people are partying until super super early in the morning i should say hopefully i'll be okay
03:35fingers crossed bye see you later this is not even 40 pounds a night i mean that is so cheap and you
03:44get an ensuite because i think that's probably one of the things i'll struggle with imagine you had a
03:49dorm of loads of dudes smelly dudes
03:53the hostel has its own bar and restaurant and it hosts nightly events from karaoke to tipsy bingo
04:11it's up to the reps to show the guests a good time
04:15this is finn's fourth stint in thailand you're in bangkok right now do you know what the ritual is
04:21revolution it's a shot you've got to do a shot come on oh i'll have a taste of it but it's a free
04:26shot that's what matters most tonight finn's offered to take me on a pub crawl right let's get the shot
04:33where you shot let's go let's get the shot you're here you're in thailand fine
04:46three two
04:51welcome to thailand thank you so much that was delightful spicy on my lungs
04:54right so are you keen for khao san or what i'm very keen
05:05just around the corner the khao san road is packed with bars clubs and massage parlors
05:11oh my god it's loud it's a hedonistic paradise for brits abroad
05:21are these legit massage shots uh yes and no what do you mean by that like happy ending could be
05:28prominent there could be we're right we're on khao san so happy ending could happen if they are
05:35us what is a happy ending oh come on with a hand you're on ah these are spiders okay i'll get you
05:42i'm not eating one i'm not eating one
05:43what is that
05:46ah he's gonna eat one
05:47i can't even explain this place it's like so humid but
06:16humid with all the people it's pretty wild there's lots of cannabis stalls and shops around which i
06:23wasn't expecting you can literally smell weed the moment you get onto khao san road like it's
06:30everywhere and you can see why loads of young people want to come over here in summer 2025
06:35thailand announced plans to make cannabis illegal but at the start of the year when i'm filming it's
06:41decriminalized and a large part of the country's appeal for many travelers so tell me what you're
06:47all here for escape from home life cost of living is very expensive and you get so much more of your
06:55money out here and a lot of people i know still living at home with their parents and like trying to
07:01save to move out so this is a nice just like break from that even just the accessibility of weed and
07:08similar things people call it like the amsterdam of asia really okay are the drugs really accessible
07:15here i've heard so yeah even a lot of the bars here they all have signs laughing gas next man about
07:22that's all illegal and there's police up and down that street there's like two languages of thailand
07:26thai and money so as long as you've got enough money you get away with anything here like interesting
07:32and what do you mean by that do you mean you could pay someone you could pay the police off yeah it's
07:37really bad is there anything i need to be cautious of any like scams that have happened to them so i
07:44have one that didn't happen to me personally but it did happen to one of my friends he went for a massage
07:51he got offered a happy ending he did accept it the lady left the room he was blindfolded a child
07:59came in and like performed a sexual act on him the masseuse recorded it used it to blackmailing for
08:06money and he gave the money obviously because of the horrible situation he was put in but if he
08:11hadn't they were going to go to the police with the video footage i guess there's always things that
08:16goes on behind closed doors right that you just don't know about so you've always just got to be like
08:20super careful and mindful it sounds like you could easily get caught out here in bangkok
08:28but for some the spectacle of the sex industry is one of the highlights of their trip
08:34i've bumped into jack and luxie who've been here traveling for the last three weeks
08:38how are you enjoying thailand tell me about it it's amazing it's like benidorm on steroids
08:45what does that mean cheap cheerful full of women if you're a single lad get yourself down to where
08:49you're amazing okay so where have you guys just been soy soy it's just basically a strip go-go bar
08:57go-go bar go-go bar hundreds of women all naked dancing if you really want to get a cd
09:03you're gonna have to pay your money and take them back all i'm not into that mate it's like 10
09:07pounds it's like 10 for what it's like kind of for the full night basically for a full night
09:1310 quid depending on the girl it's part of the culture i'm going to follow jack and luxie's
09:20recommendation and head to soy cowboy one of the most famous red light districts in the city
09:26the crowds of tourists here might not realize but prostitution is actually illegal in thailand
09:38and filming anything on these streets is strictly forbidden
09:44but after months of negotiation we've been allowed in to film
09:56i've never seen anything like this in my life and i'm seeing a lot of women
10:26in on the street trying to pull guys in touching guys trying to get them in it's quite a lot and
10:34it's very different from the coastline road because coastline road is lively lots of people partying
10:39whereas this feels the music's playing but the energy is lower and it feels like people are here for a
10:45purpose a bit more which is a bit seedy if i'm honest there's a few police officers around here as well
10:52so behind every single front of the bar there's a curtain or a door obviously a lot that goes on
11:02behind this curtain and you have to pay entry to get in some people here are actively looking for a
11:09sexual encounter but others come to watch a sex show or just check out the infamous area
11:16i found a brit tourist josh what are you here for stag do a stag do okay so it's like the first of our
11:25boys is getting married so we just went a bit mad okay it's just so it's just so not like you don't
11:30see this at home i know you don't see this on a normal spain holiday or magaluf or whatever it's an
11:35experience like you have to see it i guess but you wouldn't want to get too drunk and lose yourself
11:40yeah but when in rome how far would you go i mean i don't want anything i mean i've got a girlfriend
11:47anyway but regardless i wouldn't do it it's maybe that's i mean everyone's got that bit of interest
11:52that like it's the intrigue yeah yeah of course it is that drags a lot of curtain like this curtain
11:56what the hell's happening behind that curtain there's some level of intrigue like they've got
12:00to be intrigued to go in there wow we've got the police like stalking us right now yeah no worries
12:08so we'll let you get back to your friends i'm getting the feeling that our presence is not
12:13welcome here but what i really want to do is try and talk to one of the sex workers
12:19to understand what life is like for the women that work here
12:24i don't even know which girls are sex workers and the bar owners are not making it easy for me to find
12:31out i wonder why we can't go any can we not go any further
12:38why you can move there okay um i don't know if this guy owns this club here but he's told us to
12:46move away and not film in a public area oh my goodness me okay we're going home okay
13:04oh my god clearly like we are not wanted here
13:07one okay oh my god so one of our um crews just had an ashtray thrown at their heads so it's an
13:18incredibly hostile environment
13:24it feels like our agreement with the bar owners has changed i'm told to stop filming now
13:31um police have detained part of our crew and demand to see what we filmed
13:42they insist our footage must be deleted but we refuse
13:48our security team decides we must leave the area immediately
13:53we have to get out of here as soon as possible because they wanted to see all of our footage and
13:58we don't want to lose what we've captured for tonight so we've got to get out of here quite quickly
14:10but the police follow us to our van
14:13it's driving because the police have threatened to actually arrest a few of our crew members
14:19um for filming even though we have a permit to film we paid for the permit so we should technically be
14:25allowed to be allowed we can do that tomorrow we can come we can bring the tape it feels really odd
14:41that the police aren't unbiased in this situation you know they are very much on the sides of the people
14:48who are doing the illegal activities like they're on the sides of these illegal bars
14:56you keep this and then i will bring it to him
14:59the police have finally agreed to let us leave
15:03as long as we bring the footage to the police station tomorrow
15:06that whole ordeal was pretty terrifying i've been in thailand for less than 24 hours and i've
15:19nearly got arrested
15:20i feel absolutely shattered um last night was just
15:50really overwhelming in a lot of different ways
15:54seeing the police standing outside the bars you know being threatened to be arrested i mean that is
16:00like so scary i can really see now how easy it is for travelers to find themselves in trouble here
16:06but actually it's made me more intrigued about the sex industry here i do want to go back i want to
16:17speak to a sex worker actually and find out what are the realities of working on that strip and why
16:25there's so much kind of red tape around it um it's almost hidden in plain sight and
16:32they want you to know about it but they don't want you to know about it and
16:35it feels like the authorities acknowledge it
16:44i'm starting to learn that bangkok is a city full of contradictions
16:48i've also heard that loads of brits are heading here to pursue the dream of a luxury lifestyle
16:59and i'm keen to meet people choosing to settle here in bangkok for good
17:03so i found this guy called mike he has over 400 000 followers on tiktok
17:10and he's kind of centering his content around his life here in thailand what it's like to live
17:16over here in bangkok and he seems to be the king of the condo tours
17:22how much do you pay for rent in bangkok 20 000 baht per month
17:25so any chance i could get like a house tour oh my oh my gosh dude this is incredible i really want
17:32to meet him and chat to him about what it's like being a brit living over here in thailand
17:37and see what the draw of bangkok is
17:4528 year old content creator mike grew up in kent
17:51and lived in london before moving to bangkok
17:54like the view yeah it's insane i didn't know places like this existed in bangkok
17:59he's offered to show me around park origin tonglo one of the most luxurious complexes in the city
18:06it looks absolutely incredible and they actually have three paws and this is the smallest one
18:12what this is the smallest one what brought you to bangkok into thailand i actually came here on a
18:19layover on a layer yeah so i was planning to go to melilla in philippines and i booked because it
18:25was cheaper to come to bangkok first so i i saw a flight for like 300 pounds i was like why not spend
18:30three days here have some nice pad thai massage and i did like a tick tock video flying from like
18:36london to bangkok just for fun and it got 200 000 views wow like in the first day and i've never had
18:42that much attention in my life i was like i need to carry on yeah and it got to day three when i was
18:48about to take my flight and i was like i should extend one more week and that three days lasted uh
18:54well it's been two years now oh my god that's amazing yeah and now i do content full-time
18:59off the viral success of his video mike has been able to set up a whole new career in bangkok
19:09showcasing an aspirational luxury lifestyle oh wow that's a stunning gym one of the gyms
19:16so there's actually a golf simulator a golf simulator what thank you so much right apparently you just got
19:23a straight arm i believe in you thank you oh well i'm gonna get this oh that wasn't that was just
19:34gonna say it i'm a golfer now i've never seen anything like this before you have so many things
19:41you don't need this is extra i would argue you need this though okay this luxury lifestyle is something i
19:50can definitely get on board with and what's most appealing is that it also appears affordable
19:57pool area a one bedroom apartment starts at only 600 pounds a month how is your lifestyle different
20:06here to what it's like in the uk i'm more carefree and i don't really have to think about money as much
20:14before i was an influencer here i was an editor in the uk and i was making like 300 pounds a week just
20:20editing like nine hour ten hour days and uh i i had to spend on rent on food and you know going out and
20:29stuff in the uk so that money would go very quickly yeah yeah and if you don't mind me asking how much
20:35do you make from your content it's always over 10 grand a month now wow yeah yeah i don't really have
20:41financial burden anymore whereas in the uk i really did yeah i've always wanted to live a life like
20:47this and it it was so hard to kind of achieve this lifestyle in england so coming here just it makes
20:54complete sense for me yeah yeah this place is it's like i'm living a dream here it's incredible yeah
21:04being free from money worries feels totally out of reach for a lot of us in the uk right now
21:09maybe bangkok is a place where you can do or be anything you want
21:19emma hi hi good to see you hi how are you hello but for those just starting out here with limited
21:25income the dream does come with compromises so this is a flat i mean this is a lot smaller than i
21:36was expecting yeah emma from yorkshire and terry from essex moved here three months ago they rent a
21:4335 square meter apartment on park origins 20th floor that's a toss-up you go for a smaller living space
21:51nicer amenities or you go further out slightly older building bigger living space but not the same
21:57amenities so yeah we went with the first and yeah this is our home do you enjoy it do you enjoy living
22:03here yeah yeah we've met loads of people um i think that that's the main thing and it's a really good
22:08location yeah i've only literally been here like a couple of days now and i feel like i've seen the
22:14coast down road yeah yeah it was it was quite fun to be honest i had a really good night oh that's good
22:20so do you know anything else about the night scene in bangkok not at all not at all have you
22:25not been to any rooftop bars no okay shall we we'll take we'll take it to a rooftop bar okay it's really
22:30good amazing yeah yeah
22:41more and more of us are being drawn to bangkok for the bougie vip lifestyle it offers
22:46the new life
22:50emma and terry met when traveling and are both now working out here to fund their new life
22:58how does your life compare here to what it was like back in the uk
23:04i'm hot every day i love it so yeah um much better here yeah much better i think um just the cost
23:10of living out here i mean our apartment is like we pay 350 each yes yeah so 330 pounds each yeah
23:17being able to experience like living in bangkok and traveling and being able to go to an island
23:21on a weekend like that's absolutely insane isn't it and i wouldn't stop it for the world how easy is
23:28it for young brits to come over here to thailand and to get a job really hard if you're wanting to
23:33work in thailand for a thai company it is near on impossible unless you're a teacher so how do you fund
23:40your life over here so i am self-employed so i've got my digital nomad visa so with that i do ugc um
23:49content creation yeah so and i'm trying to build up my instagram as well when i first came out i had
23:5515 000 and at the moment just over 28 000 so it's almost doubled and in terms of my income probably
24:04around like two to four k a month maybe a little bit less it's quite like a up and down industry
24:12isn't it does that feel like a risk yes and no i used to work in finance before like a few years ago
24:17you used to work in a bank like um yeah so i don't think would be unemployable it because we've taken
24:23this route and say it hasn't worked out it's a risk but it's a risk that we're both willing to take
24:28yeah and you know if we had to go home i wouldn't want to but fine we'd go home we had to go home you
24:34just save up run away again yeah definitely
24:42there is something quite intoxicating about this city
24:45and i'm starting to believe that you really can reinvent yourself here
24:53i've decided to head back to the khao san road
24:58after my experience with the police i'm really confused about how the law works here
25:04and how brits are meant to navigate it
25:10so i'm spending the night with a thai police force who are planning a drugs raid
25:15so
25:34tonight's raid is a huge operation involving more than 50 officers from multiple agencies
25:40oh my goodness
25:46let's go great
25:56i wouldn't say this is the most subtle undercover operation i've ever seen in my life
26:08i wonder where we're going i have no idea oh my god they're flashing the lights
26:11they're flashing their lights for people
26:26now
26:34and
26:38in thailand the police can force you to take a urine test without any evidence you've taken drugs
26:51drugs. If anyone is positive for drugs, they could be arrested and face time in rehab or
27:03prison. What kind of drugs here are illegal?
27:27All the drugs that are illegal in another country are illegal. It's the same in Thailand, except
27:35the cannabis. Ice, cocaine, methamphetamine, everything is totally illegal.
27:40OK, here's another sample coming out. Imagine if you had some drugs. Are you feeling OK about
27:54the test? Yeah, I don't take this drug. You haven't taken any drugs? I smoke in Australia,
27:59but not the wrong drug. OK. So, no positives so far. You already had a test. It means you're
28:10good. You're fine. Have a good night. Bye. Everyone's been negative so far, which is interesting.
28:21OK, second location. Let's go. So far, the police haven't tested any Brits. How are you feeling
28:40about the police coming in here and doing the drugs testing? I feel like that's OK. I understand.
28:47I've not also been in this country the whole time. Right, OK. Oh, so you're worried that
28:54something could show up from another country? Yes. That's right. I understand. I understand.
28:59Yeah. Are you worried about what could happen, then, if they find anything? Well, I guess
29:06that's what happens, what happens. Come on.
29:11How long have you been in Thailand? I've been here for three days. I was here before a couple
29:21of weeks ago, but I went to Cambodia and then I came back. Now I'm from Thailand. Thailand,
29:28beautiful country. Beautiful country. You're welcome to Thailand. Thank you.
29:36Right now. There were no arrests tonight, but some close calls. Maybe these raids are more
29:47about keeping tourists on their toes. A lot of tourists, they get the message that you
29:53could have fun while just taking the alcohol only, but not drunk. Yeah. I'm pretty shocked
29:59that the police can force you to take a urine test. And I don't reckon many know that.
30:06This country seems to offer freedoms that you would never find back home. But one wrong move
30:12could put you in real trouble, real fast.
30:39I'm going to take over to the British Embassy now because, obviously, when Brits get in trouble,
30:43the first place they're going to go to is the Embassy.
30:47And I'm keen to find out what the UK officials in Thailand can do to help.
30:56Real British. Big Ben.
31:00I've been given special permission by the Ambassador to meet the Embassy's consular team.
31:05Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. How are you? Right. Come on, guys. Here we go.
31:10They're the busiest in the world, helping over 2,000 Brits a year.
31:16Is there an element of maybe people coming over here and not fully understanding the law
31:21and what they can and can't do? So, we have seen a significant increase in our cases since
31:27cannabis has been legalised here. Wow, okay.
31:31That is mainly people exporting it.
31:34So, they will attempt to take a couple of cases back to the UK.
31:38And if they then get stopped at the airport, obviously, then they are arrested.
31:43They're not arrested for the cannabis.
31:45They're arrested for not having an export licence.
31:48Okay.
31:49But the worst misconception is that we can get people out of prison.
31:53I mean, that is the one where, you know, people will say, but I'm British.
31:57You're the British Embassy.
31:58You know, you get me out of prison.
32:01And it's definitely a no.
32:03So, I read in the paper about a young British national who's involved with both exporting cannabis
32:08and then decided to start importing Class A drugs.
32:11Do you know about that case?
32:13Yep. We actually just attended his first court appointment last Friday.
32:18And we are quite concerned regarding outcome of the case.
32:21Really? What do you mean by concerned?
32:23With drug smuggling cases in Thailand, the sentence could be death penalty.
32:30Wow.
32:31So, the threshold for death penalty is quite low in Thailand.
32:3410 to 15 kilos of Class 1, which I think in this case was above that, yeah.
32:39Wow, okay. That is a worry then. Yeah.
32:42I think I was a bit naive and I had the assumption that if I got in any trouble,
32:49I could run to the embassy, speak to some British people and they could keep me safe.
32:54But actually, there's no magic wand that they can wave.
32:57I'm definitely going to stay on the side of the law here.
33:00I'm even going to make sure my seatbelt's buckled up in the car.
33:03This afternoon, I've been invited to shadow Sam from the consular team.
33:12He's been called to the Immigration Detention Centre to help British nationals who've been locked up for overstaying their visas.
33:20We're seeing two people today and the staff sent me a message this morning to say,
33:27a new arrival, can you come down and see them?
33:29You're going into these not pleasant places to see people in distress, so it can be quite difficult.
33:35Recently, someone allegedly smuggled a camera inside a detention centre and police station, revealing horrendous conditions and overcrowding.
33:48What states do you find people in when they're in the detention centre?
33:52It varies, really. We could have people who have maybe overstayed their visa by a day, two days.
33:57They'll have money, they were maybe just stopped at a checkpoint, like,
34:00oh, you've overstayed, now you need to come here.
34:02Those people can tend to get themselves out of trouble quite quickly.
34:05However, the majority are in there because they had no money,
34:09or else they could have just paid the fine and left.
34:11They really have nothing.
34:12I think the earliest one we've had was two minutes, two minutes overstayed.
34:16Two minutes overstayed and they were...?
34:18Yeah, and they had no cash left.
34:20Oh, my God. And they ended up being detained there for two weeks before being deported.
34:24Wow. Yeah.
34:25And going to places outside the detention centre,
34:28possibly the worst place of British National could be in Thailand, so...
34:31Really? You know, you could be in there with anyone, to be honest.
34:34Just say, for example, a murderer, when their sentence is finished and it's time to be deported,
34:39they'll go to the detention centre.
34:41So they'll all be kept in the same room, so if you oversee your visa by one day,
34:44you could be in with someone who's just served ten years for murder.
34:48Wow.
34:49So we try and offer as much support as we can.
34:51We're just arriving now, Zora.
34:53OK.
34:54So, as you'll see behind, we're just going to go through that little gate there,
34:57and that's where the detention centre is.
34:59The detention centre have refused me entry with a camera, but I've seen an opportunity.
35:13While I've been waiting here, a whole van of people has basically just turned up.
35:17It's a bit like a cage, actually, on the back of a vehicle.
35:21And it looks like they're waiting to go into the detention centre.
35:25I might try and talk to some of them and see if anyone speaks English.
35:29Hi.
35:30Does anyone speak English?
35:31A little bit.
35:32You speak English.
35:33What are you here for?
35:34Expired visa.
35:35Expired visa.
35:36OK.
35:37But stay in hospital and that's why I forget to extend visa.
35:38Oh, wow.
35:39Oh, just after surgery, that's why.
35:40Oh, so you had surgery.
35:41Yeah.
35:42Last month, 10 of January, I stayed in Bangkok Hospital.
35:44But you've got to stay a night here, minimum.
35:45Yeah.
35:46Minimum.
35:47Yeah.
35:48Yeah.
35:49Yeah.
35:50Yeah.
35:51Yeah.
35:52Yeah.
35:53Yeah.
35:54Yeah.
35:55Yeah.
35:56Yeah.
35:57Yeah.
35:58Yeah.
35:59Yeah.
36:00Yeah.
36:01Yeah.
36:02Yeah.
36:03Yeah.
36:04Yeah.
36:05Yeah.
36:06Yeah.
36:07Yeah.
36:08Minimum.
36:09Yeah.
36:10Have you heard about what it's like?
36:11No.
36:12I don't know.
36:13No.
36:14Well, hopefully you'll be out soon.
36:16Hmm?
36:17Hopefully you'll be out soon.
36:18I don't know.
36:19You don't know.
36:20I think it's mostly, um...
36:23No filming.
36:25OK.
36:26Oh, he's saying no.
36:27He's saying no, no, no.
36:34It feels like Thailand is full of double standards.
36:37Some police seem to turn a blind eye to the illegal sex industry.
36:45But if you overstay your visa, even by two minutes, and can't pay the fine, then you're
36:50put in jail.
36:54Maybe here, money really does talk.
36:56Since I got here, I've been trying to talk to a sex worker to understand what their life
37:08is like.
37:09I've decided to return to the red light district, as I've finally managed to get access inside
37:16a bar.
37:17Do you know what?
37:18There is a little bit of, like, adrenaline that started to pump.
37:21Because the last time we were there, myself and all the crew nearly got arrested.
37:26Bangkok's world-famous ping pong shows attract a big tourist crowd.
37:31Who come to see various objects propelled from vaginas with dazzling accuracy.
37:40I'm feeling a bit conflicted about going.
37:43But I want to really get an understanding of what this industry is and what it feels like
37:48from the inside.
37:50Shows last about 15 minutes.
37:53The bar have allowed me to watch as long as we don't record anything behind the curtain.
38:04Is it alright to sit here?
38:05Is that okay?
38:06Yes.
38:07Amazing, thank you.
38:08Can we sit down, girls?
38:09Fellow audience members Robin, Finlay and Rosie join for a debrief.
38:14I think, like, going in, we were like, is it okay?
38:17Yeah.
38:18Do you know what I mean?
38:19Yeah, I felt the same, honestly.
38:20Like, do they want to be there?
38:22They're sitting there.
38:23We can't watch them and not clap.
38:24That's not what I mean.
38:25Yeah, when the ping-pongs are coming out of the vagina, you want to go, woo!
38:28Yeah, you do.
38:29But, like, what made you guys want to come to the show in the first place?
38:33Well, me and my friend came last year and we told our friend about it.
38:38She's not me.
38:39I think people talk about it a lot.
38:40There's a lot of, like, controversy about it.
38:42So, I guess, see it for yourself.
38:44Did you see them checking their watches?
38:46No.
38:47They were, like, dancing and the straight face, but then they were, like, checking their watches.
38:51It's quite sad.
38:52Yeah.
38:53It's like, how many times a night do you do this?
38:56I will be honest.
38:57I went to the bathroom and I was washing my hands and she was washing her ping-pong balls
39:00at the same time as I was washing my hands.
39:02And it was quite the experience.
39:04I was like, this is pretty.
39:05Oh, my God.
39:06Would it be rude to go up to them and just be like, oh, are you happy?
39:10Like, I know.
39:11I'm hoping to speak to someone, actually.
39:13Like, I really want to find someone who works along this strip so I can get a better understanding
39:18of, like, what their lives are actually like and whether they enjoy this work or they don't.
39:25Nice to meet you.
39:26Nice to meet you.
39:27The girls who work here seem very reluctant to speak on camera.
39:31It's weird.
39:32When you come to Thailand, you realise nothing really makes sense.
39:37Everything you see is a walking contradiction.
39:40The sex shows are illegal, yet there's police monitoring the perimeters outside the sex shows,
39:46chatting to the owners of the bars that are doing the shows.
39:51Like, it doesn't make any sense.
39:53There must be something in it for both of them.
39:58I've finally found a sex worker willing to talk to me.
40:04I'm meeting her in a hotel near to the strip.
40:08To protect her from the authorities, we've concealed her identity.
40:13Thank you so much for agreeing to meet me.
40:15Yeah.
40:16I really, really appreciate your time.
40:17Yeah.
40:18Can you tell me a bit about the work that you do?
40:21Yes.
40:22Yes.
40:23I work in a club.
40:24I be a dancer.
40:25You're a dancer?
40:26Yes.
40:27And are you involved in the sex work as well, in the sex industry?
40:32Yes.
40:33So how does it work practically then?
40:35So would you meet a customer at the bar?
40:38And then would you come back to a hotel like this?
40:42Yes.
40:43I see.
40:44So the sex comes later on in the evening.
40:57Yes.
40:58Who decides on the price?
40:59Yes.
41:00Yes.
41:01Can you say no to a customer?
41:02Yes.
41:03Do you have a lot of British customers?
41:04Yes.
41:05Yes.
41:06So lots of teenagers, British teenagers.
41:07Yes.
41:08Yes.
41:09So lots of teenagers, British teenagers.
41:10Yes.
41:11Yes.
41:12But the kid is like…
41:13He is a kid, so he dreams come for a new youth but you know allow me to name him the culture.
41:19Okay.
41:20That's the same.
41:21So, would you tell me a little hurt, if he can come back?
41:22Do you have a lot of British customers?
41:24There.
41:25Yeah.
41:26Thank you very much.
41:28I like that.
41:29Yes.
41:30The kid's a teenage…
41:31Then, you might become a child…
41:32So lots of teenagers…
41:36So you've had fathers where they want their sons to learn about sex?
41:51What made you want to choose to do sex work?
42:06It's slightly jarring to hear about the young Brits and their dads are paying the sex worker
42:35to kind of teach their sons the ropes, it's a bit weird, but you've got to have so much
42:44respect for these women and the risks they take night on night to earn a living for themselves
42:49and their families.
42:52Next, I'm going island hopping in search of paradise.
42:56This feels like a spiritual place.
42:59Doing some gentle squeeze and releasing of your yoni.
43:01I uncover the sex capital of Asia.
43:0870 bars, 30 girls in each bar.
43:10A lot more going on here than in Bangkok.
43:13And one of the world's biggest beach parties.
43:17Oh my God.
43:19You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:20If I hit the jugular, I would have died in 20 minutes.
43:22You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:23You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:24You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:25You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:26You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:27You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:28You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:29You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:30You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:31You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:32You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:33You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:34You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:35You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:36You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:37You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:38You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:39You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:40You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:41You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:42You'd lose a lot of blood.
43:43You'd lose a lot of blood.
