Noah Baumbach wrote and directed this year's 'Marriage Story' starring Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver while partner Greta Gerwig worte and directed 'Little Women' starring Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet.

00:39It had everything in that movie. It was funny, it was exciting.

00:44But I didn't really have a concept of that would be a thing I could do.

00:49And as I got older, then I knew that Michael Curtiz had directed it,

00:53and he also did Casablanca, and then I started to search out his movies.

00:58Yeah, Gene Kelly films are the ones that made me kind of hope,

01:04but I didn't think I could do it.

01:12Well, it's, I mean, it's Louise May Alcott wrote it, not me, in this line.

01:16I just love it. It's Florence Pugh as Amy.

01:19I want to be great or nothing.

01:22It's just, it's tremendous.

01:25It's such a, such a wonderful sentiment.

01:28And also, you know, it's ambitious.

01:30It's a big thing.

01:31And I don't, I think when I read it, like, when I read it,

01:34it stood out to me in neon.

01:36Like, that's an ambitious girl, and I like it.

01:39Well, I just recently, just like two nights ago, was at an event in Nick Cave, the singer, not the artist.

01:53Although the artist may have been there too.

01:55Santa Gold.

01:56I met her at the LACMA Gucci event, and I love her music.

02:01I happened to fanboy out on the singer Nick Cave, whose records I love.

02:06And she's so lovely, and I got really flustered.

02:10But anyway, she's fabulous.

02:12A friend of mine had just went, had surgery, and so I took a photo of me and him to send to him.

02:18Here I am hanging out with Nick Cave while you're in the hospital.

02:21I don't know, what are the stereotypes of indie filmmakers?

02:31Oh, I guess maybe that we're, there's any kind of pretension there.

02:35I don't know if that's a stereotype of indie filmmakers,

02:37but I feel like mostly indie filmmakers are just people making films without any financing.

02:46It's not, it has nothing to do with their, their, their heart or, you know.

02:51I feel like it's just, it's just where you start out.

02:54I mean, even Steven Spielberg was once an indie filmmaker, before Jaws.
