00:00Hollywood is mourning the devastating loss of Friends star Matthew Perry, who sadly died on Saturday at the age of 54.
00:07According to law enforcement sources who told the Los Angeles Times,
00:11Perry, who starred as the beloved Chandler Bing on the hit NBC sitcom, died on Saturday in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home.
00:18Many of Perry's colleagues and close confidants have already begun to come out and share their tributes to the star.
00:24Friends creators Marta Kaufman and David Crane and executive producer Kevin Bright shared a joint statement with The Hollywood Reporter expressing their shock and sadness.
00:33It seems impossible. All we can say is that we feel blessed to have had him as part of our lives.
00:38He was a brilliant talent. It's a cliche to say that an actor makes a role their own, but in Matthew's case, there are no truer words.
00:46From the day we first heard him embody the role of Chandler Bing, there was no one else for us.
00:50We will always cherish the joy, the light, the blinding intelligence he brought to every moment, not just to his work, but in life as well.
00:58Maggie Wheeler, who starred as Janice, Chandler's on-and-off girlfriend on Friends, wrote on Instagram,
01:03What a loss. The world will miss you, Matthew Perry. The joy you brought to so many in your too-short lifetime will live on.
01:09I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared.
01:13Selma Blair also said in a sweet tribute on Instagram,
01:16Gwyneth Paltrow also wrote about first meeting Perry in 1993 in Massachusetts, sharing how they even shared a summer romance.
01:35We were both there for most of the summer doing plays. He was so funny and so sweet and so much fun to be with.
01:41We drove out to swim in creeks and beers in the local college bar, kissed in a field of long grass. It was a magical summer.
01:47We stayed friends for a while until we drifted apart, but I was always happy to see him when I did.
01:52I am super sad today, as so many of us are. I hope Matthew is at peace at long last. I really do.
01:58Adele also paused her Las Vegas show to share how Perry, whom she never met, impacted her before performing when we were young.
02:04She shared,
02:05He's probably the best comedic character of all time. He was so open with his struggles with addiction and sobriety, which I think is incredibly, incredibly brave.
02:14Brooke Shields, who made a guest appearance on Friends, also wrote,
02:17Really struggling to find the words. You were so loved, Matthew. I loved you dearly. Thank you for the belly laughs. You brought joy to so many.
02:24We already miss you. Sending all my love to your family and friends.
02:28Perry's family shared a statement with people mourning the loss of their loved one.
02:31We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother. Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend.
02:39Adding,
02:39You all meant so much to him, and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love.
