00:00Janet Jackson became just the seventh artist ever to receive the Billboard Music Awards Icon Award,
00:10accepting the honor Sunday night live on NBC at the MGM Garden Grand Arena.
00:15After a career-spanning introduction from Bruno Mars, she performed on television for the first time in nine years,
00:23giving the Las Vegas crowd a medley of hits, including top ten classics If and Nasty.
00:30But Nasty.
00:32Certainly deserving of the Icon Award, Janet has charted 27 top ten singles in her career, including ten number one hits.
00:41She's also one of only four acts to have a number one album in each of the last four decades.
00:48With the crowd chanting her name, Janet took the opportunity to deliver a message of feminist hope.
00:53At long last, women have made it clear that we will no longer be controlled,
00:59manipulated, or abused.
01:03The full list of Icon Award winners includes Prince, Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder, Cher,
01:09Neil Diamond, Jennifer Lopez, and now Miss Jackson, If You're Nasty.
