'Val' traces the life and career of the mercurial actor through interviews and behind-the-scenes footage supplied by Kilmer, who also stars in the upcoming sequel 'Top Gun: Maverick.'
00:00Val Kilmer is the focus of a new intimate documentary produced by A24 and acquired by Amazon Studios.
00:06The doc titled Val relies on numerous interviews with Kilmer as well as footage supplied by the actor and artist himself.
00:12Over the past four decades, Kilmer has been documenting his own life and craft through video,
00:16amassing thousands of hours of footage from 16mm home movies made with his brothers
00:20to time spent on films such as The Doors, Tombstone, Top Gun, and Batman Forever.
00:25What is it about the wrong kind of man?
00:28It's the car, right?
00:29Chicks love the car.
00:30Val is directed by Leo Scott and Ting Poo.
00:33Kilmer told THR,
00:34At least once a day for years, I looked around and got this bittersweet feeling that there are a thousand reasons that this project could have been shipwrecked.
00:41I mean, what could a film look like of a man filming himself sometimes daily, years at a time?
00:45It is unimaginable that this movie actually could have ever come to light without the partnership of my dear friends,
00:50Leo and Ting, and my producing partners.
00:53There are whispers that Val could make its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival this summer.
00:56Amazon Studios will release Val later this year in the U.S. and Latin America.
01:01Kilmer will also make headlines this fall when Top Gun Maverick is released,
01:04which sees him reprise his role as Iceman opposite Tom Cruise.
01:08You are still dangerous.
