00:00:58The American public annually spends more than $4 billion in the nation's great department stores.
00:01:04Some pay cash for their merchandise, others use the installment plan,
00:01:08and a few try shoplifting, a criminal practice annually amounting to $100 million.
00:01:15Shoplifters come from all walks of life.
00:01:18Temptation and opportunity lie for them wherever merchandise is displayed.
00:01:23Of every 10 shoplifters apprehended by the law, nine are women.
00:01:29Only 10% are professionals, but this 10% account for more than 80% of the losses.
00:01:35Among the professionals, those who attempt to eke out a living by the practice, are many drug addicts.
00:01:43And among the amateurs are some who are mentally ill and unable to control their impulses to steal.
00:01:49Described sometimes as kleptomaniacs, they often are tempted by the mere glitter of things.
00:01:55Often by the touch and feel of things.
00:01:58And sometimes by a button, a spool of thread, or a mere bagatelle,
00:02:02which to them may mean more than all the riches they might possess.
00:02:07This is the story of one such person.
00:02:23Yes?
00:02:24Send an operator to the glove department immediately.
00:02:27Okay.
00:02:29Armstrong.
00:02:41Sharp lifting suspect.
00:02:43Check the glove department.
00:02:44Main floor.
00:02:45Okay.
00:02:59The girl in the polo cord.
00:03:17He can't... Oh, pardon me.
00:03:29I wasn't kidding back there. You're being watched.
00:03:32I beg your pardon.
00:03:34I'll diagram it for you.
00:03:36You're stealing things, and people are watching you.
00:03:38May I help you?
00:03:40Oh, no thanks. We're helping ourselves.
00:03:59Will you please step back into the store?
00:04:01Why? What do you want with me?
00:04:02You've forgotten to pay for something.
00:04:04Now, ladies, let's don't have a seat.
00:04:06For your old sake, please come quietly.
00:04:24Better come along, too, but...
00:04:25Wait a minute. I'm not with her.
00:04:27You are now.
00:04:48Now, don't tell me it's your first time.
00:04:50You start with shoelaces and handkerchiefs.
00:04:53Not by taking $22 ceramics and $15 fountain pens.
00:04:56And why can't your boyfriend steal his own pipes?
00:04:59He's not my boyfriend.
00:05:00Who is he?
00:05:01I don't know.
00:05:02She doesn't need a boyfriend.
00:05:04She has a bank book.
00:05:05A big, fat one.
00:05:11Faye Burton, age 22.
00:05:15First offense.
00:05:17Faye Burton. Yes, I've heard of you.
00:05:19You're Judge Burton's daughter.
00:05:20Please, can't I just pay for everything?
00:05:21I don't know why I did it.
00:05:22Don't ask me.
00:05:23You've got plenty of money in the bank.
00:05:24You're well-dressed.
00:05:25That's supposed to make you a kleptomaniac.
00:05:26The ones in old clothes are just common thieves.
00:05:27But you, you're a kleptomaniac.
00:05:28Anyway, sign this confession.
00:05:29No, please believe me.
00:05:30I promise I'll never take anything again.
00:05:31I know I deserve it, but please don't arrest me.
00:05:32How can I get in touch with your father?
00:05:33He's in Europe.
00:05:34This will be a nice homecoming present for him.
00:05:37Good morning, Mr. Dustin.
00:05:38Good morning, Mr. Dustin.
00:05:39Good morning, Mr. Dustin.
00:05:40Sexton, I thought you told me over the phone that there were two of them.
00:05:41He's in the other room.
00:05:43Yeah, he's in the other room.
00:05:44I know I deserve it, but please don't arrest me.
00:05:45Anyway, sign this confession.
00:05:46I don't know why I don't get this one.
00:05:47I can't do it.
00:05:48I can talk to him.
00:05:49You're in the other room.
00:05:50And you're in the other room.
00:05:51I can't do it.
00:05:52Anyway, sign this confession.
00:05:53No, please believe me.
00:05:54I promise I'll never take anything again.
00:05:56I know I deserve it, but please don't arrest me.
00:05:57Good morning, Mr. Dunstan.
00:05:59Good morning, Mr. Dunstan.
00:06:03Jackson, I thought you told me over the phone there were two of them.
00:06:05He's in the other room.
00:06:07Bring the man in.
00:06:13Did you search him?
00:06:14Yes, sir. Nothing on him.
00:06:15But he was carrying this booster box.
00:06:17You're tampering with the mail, Sonny.
00:06:19That box is sealed for shipment of my mother.
00:06:25Wait a minute.
00:06:26Wait a minute.
00:06:35I thought he looked familiar.
00:06:37He just sent this out to me yesterday.
00:06:39Yes, we got it from our San Francisco office. A nice record.
00:06:41Enough to keep him out of circulation for a few years.
00:06:43Get everyone out on the floor.
00:06:45He's probably moved in with a gang that's been carting off half our store
00:06:48while we amuse ourselves with kleptos.
00:06:53I want you to sign this confession and then get out of here.
00:06:55Don't let us catch you again.
00:06:56You mean you're not going to arrest me?
00:06:58Miss Burton, I'm head of the store's protective association.
00:07:00What you've done is a misdemeanor.
00:07:02Good for a nice turn in the county jail.
00:07:04But this signed confession could be used to put you into Hatchipi.
00:07:07On a felony charge.
00:07:08If we get you again.
00:07:10It's a good idea to be a little frightened right now.
00:07:12You can go now.
00:07:14You can go now.
00:07:15Your bank book.
00:07:28I'm going to take him along with me.
00:07:29I want to see if I can break him down.
00:07:33Or maybe you'd rather have the boys at Central do it.
00:07:34Come on.
00:07:35Come on.
00:07:36Well, how did it go?
00:07:39I'm going to take him along with me, Clexon.
00:07:54I want to see if I can break him down.
00:07:56Or maybe you'd rather have the boys at Central do it.
00:07:58Come on.
00:08:02Well, how did it go?
00:08:05Nothing to it.
00:08:07Yes.
00:08:07Send Pom in.
00:08:09Come on.
00:08:18It's Lieutenant Pom.
00:08:19How are you, Lieutenant?
00:08:20He'll work as our outside man on this.
00:08:22I've just taken him off another case to help you out.
00:08:24Lieutenant, there's a gang of shoplifters operating up and down the west coast.
00:08:28They cost the stores I represent over five million bucks last year.
00:08:31How do you know it's one gang?
00:08:32By the way they work.
00:08:33We've picked up a few of them.
00:08:34They've all been trained the same way.
00:08:35Trained, huh?
00:08:36We figure they've got a regular school
00:08:38where they give the background.
00:08:39We know the headquarters is somewhere around here.
00:08:42How do they get rid of the stuff?
00:08:44That's a good question.
00:08:45They've got a fence somewhere that we don't know anything about.
00:08:47They dump their stuff fast and we haven't been able to get a trace.
00:08:50How about the ones you've picked up?
00:08:51They're all amateurs.
00:08:53No records.
00:08:53They don't know any more about the setup than we do.
00:08:55As soon as they get picked up, the gang dumps them.
00:08:57How does the gang know they've been picked up?
00:08:59That's another good question.
00:09:02How does he fit in?
00:09:03I brought Jeff over from our training school.
00:09:06He's a teacher there in criminal psychology.
00:09:08We phoned up a record for him.
00:09:11He's been hanging around the stores looking for a chance and today he got it.
00:09:15They picked up a klepto and Jeff got himself arrested along with her.
00:09:19What do you intend doing?
00:09:20Well, it's just a long shot, Lieutenant.
00:09:23We know this gang gets a hold of these amateurs some way.
00:09:26After they've been picked up?
00:09:27We've run across about five cases of it already.
00:09:29We pick up a klepto and then we let them go with a warning
00:09:32and a few weeks later we pick them up again.
00:09:34Only by this time they're all trained in booster suits and heisting boxes.
00:09:37We've got to start somewhere.
00:09:38What are we after?
00:09:39The fence mostly.
00:09:40If we break that up, they won't be able to operate.
00:09:43They know how to contact these amateurs.
00:09:45You must have a leak in one of your stores.
00:09:50Yeah, it looks like it.
00:09:53But they're all my men.
00:09:54I supplied the detectives for all our stores.
00:09:57I've checked them and I've cross-checked them.
00:10:00I can't find anything wrong.
00:10:03Well, anything else?
00:10:07It's his show.
00:10:09I hope you know what you're doing.
00:10:11Me too.
00:10:12Look, I want this girl that was picked up with me today followed.
00:10:15So when they try to contact her, I'll have a lead which way to move.
00:10:18And if they don't?
00:10:19We try again with somebody else.
00:10:22Well, we let the girl in on this.
00:10:24Nobody's in on this.
00:10:25Dunson hasn't even told his own men.
00:10:27Anything else, Lieutenant?
00:10:28No, but don't get me wrong.
00:10:31I'm not old-fashioned enough to laugh at criminal psychology.
00:10:35But I think this is going to take more practical work than theory.
00:10:40You have the time, Lieutenant?
00:10:42Yeah, it's...
00:10:43They teach a few practical things at the training school, too, Lieutenant.
00:10:58There you are, Jimmy.
00:11:00I think you'll like this.
00:11:01Thank you, Mr. Burton.
00:11:03Tell me, is this interesting?
00:11:05I'm sorry.
00:11:09That's a reference book.
00:11:10It can't be taken out.
00:11:11Oh, I imagine it can, if you know the right people.
00:11:14You must have taken it home a few nights yourself.
00:11:17I don't understand.
00:11:18I think you do, eh?
00:11:21Who sent you here?
00:11:22Nobody.
00:11:23I just wanted to meet you.
00:11:25We have a lot in common.
00:11:28Are you from the police?
00:11:30Now, do I look like a policeman.
00:11:31But this store, Mr. Claxton, he let me go.
00:11:34After you signed the confession.
00:11:36Bad things to be living around, confessions.
00:11:38But he promised.
00:11:39Anybody can make a promise.
00:11:41Just like I'm going to make you one now.
00:11:44How would you like to get your confession out of Claxton's files?
00:11:47How?
00:11:48What do you care, how?
00:11:49Well, you'd like to get it back, wouldn't you?
00:11:52I'd pay almost anything.
00:11:53You probably will.
00:11:55I want to talk to you away from this tomb.
00:11:58I'm through here at six.
00:11:59You come and see me.
00:12:01But I don't even know who you are.
00:12:03I'm a girl who knows a lot of things about you.
00:12:05Things I don't think you'd like anybody else to know about.
00:12:08But I, I really don't think that...
00:12:11You'll be there tonight.
00:12:13Where?
00:12:14The address is on the cover.
00:12:16Eight o'clock's a good hour.
00:12:17And any time after that, I may be on the phone calling some newspaper friends of mine.
00:12:22I'll be there.
00:12:23Just ask for Ina Perdue.
00:12:27I'll read up on your case a little.
00:12:35Pardon me, miss.
00:12:36Is there a smoking room around?
00:12:38Oh, no, sir.
00:12:39You have to go outside.
00:12:40Say, could I borrow those matches?
00:12:42I'm fresh out.
00:12:43Why, certainly.
00:12:53You're not going out tonight, Faye.
00:12:59Did you understand me?
00:13:00You're not going out tonight.
00:13:02The girls are coming in to play canasta.
00:13:03Please, Aunt Clara, let's not have another scene.
00:13:06Library business at night.
00:13:08How can you expect me to believe that?
00:13:10Then why do you force me to lie just to get away alone one night?
00:13:14You're using too much lipstick.
00:13:16Take some off.
00:13:18Look, I'm nervous enough.
00:13:19I'm responsible for you while your father's away.
00:13:22I think I'm all enough to be my own responsibility.
00:13:25Certainly don't act like it sometimes.
00:13:26Taking that silly job instead of going abroad with your father.
00:13:29The job at the library might be silly to you.
00:13:32But it's the only thing I've ever gotten completely on my own.
00:13:34After all your father and I've tried to do for you.
00:13:37But I don't want things done for me.
00:13:38Can't you understand that?
00:13:40All right.
00:13:41You step out of this house tonight and I'll see that you leave that silly job.
00:13:44Then we will have it out, Aunt Clara.
00:13:46Nobody's taking the library away from me.
00:13:48At least not without a real fight.
00:13:50How could you do this?
00:13:51Deliberately stand against me.
00:13:52Can't I have something that you don't give me?
00:13:54At least one thing of my own?
00:13:57Now, now, dear.
00:13:58You're all upset.
00:13:59We'll have a nice quiet evening together.
00:14:01And then I'll send the girls home early.
00:14:03If you do, you'll be all alone.
00:14:05There's a man behind this, isn't there?
00:14:06I wish it were that.
00:14:08Faye.
00:14:18Faye.
00:14:20Oh, I'm sorry.
00:14:21I didn't mean to frighten you.
00:14:22Well, didn't they send you to jail?
00:14:24I'm out on bail.
00:14:26How did you know where I lived?
00:14:27I heard in Glaxon's office.
00:14:29Did you send that woman to see me today?
00:14:32Nope.
00:14:32Let's get in the car.
00:14:35All right, I'll drop you off.
00:14:37I've got to meet someone.
00:14:51Are you really a professional shoplifter?
00:14:53That's what it says on my record.
00:14:55Then why did you want to see me?
00:14:56Maybe I like your looks.
00:14:58Maybe I'm just a moonstruck kid.
00:15:00Maybe I thought we could have a beer and compare methods of operation.
00:15:02I have no method.
00:15:04This is something I can't explain.
00:15:07Hey, well, don't try it again until you practice up a bit.
00:15:09Say, how about this woman who came to see you today?
00:15:11I don't know who she is.
00:15:12She said her name was Ina Perdue.
00:15:14She told me she could get my confession out of the files.
00:15:16She's a nice girl to know.
00:15:18How much does she want?
00:15:19I don't know.
00:15:20I'm going to see her now.
00:15:21You seem to know about these things.
00:15:23What will she want?
00:15:24Plenty if she can do it.
00:15:25But I've got to get her back.
00:15:26That's just what she figures.
00:15:28How would you like some company?
00:15:30Maybe she could do something for me.
00:15:31But I don't know anything about you.
00:15:33Sure you do.
00:15:35You heard my references when Dunson called that file on me.
00:15:38Yes, I could tell you more how I fell in with evil companions when I was eight.
00:15:41I had my own gang of blackmailers when I was ten.
00:15:44From then on, it was just a lot of hard work.
00:15:45Oh, don't be funny.
00:15:47She may not like it if I bring someone else along.
00:15:49Oh, I'll just skulk around in the background.
00:15:52Besides, sometimes it's handy to have a friend along.
00:15:58What's your name?
00:16:00Dandy the Dip, but you can call me Jeff.
00:16:11Dandy the Dip, but you can call me Jeff.
00:16:41Dandy the Dip, but you can call me Jeff.
00:17:12I'm looking for Miss Perdue.
00:17:14Welcome, senorita.
00:17:16Your first drink will be free.
00:17:18Compliments of Pepe.
00:17:20Where can I find Ina Perdue?
00:17:22Ina?
00:17:22So you're a friend of Ina's, huh?
00:17:25Well, we're going to get along just fine.
00:17:27My name is Pepe.
00:17:28You heard of me.
00:17:29I'm to see her on business.
00:17:31Okay, okay.
00:17:33Well, what's the name, baby?
00:17:35Faye Burton.
00:17:37Miss Faye Burton.
00:17:38Well, all right, then.
00:17:43Upstairs.
00:17:46And, uh, Pepe will see you later, huh?
00:17:50Your intentions are showing, pal.
00:18:03Come on in.
00:18:04Can't we talk downstairs near the music?
00:18:06No.
00:18:09Barky, you entertain the young lady.
00:18:12I've got to go downstairs.
00:18:13Sure.
00:18:14But I don't have very much time.
00:18:15Just stay right here, like I tell you.
00:18:18You might show us some pictures to pass the time.
00:18:21Sure.
00:18:21So you're the librarian, huh?
00:18:27Rich girl librarian and pal-time shoplifter.
00:18:31It's a nice parlay.
00:18:39Won't you please tell me what this is all about?
00:18:42We arranged for a photo study of your confession just to show we weren't kidding.
00:18:45Well, where's the original?
00:18:46Right where we can get it for you in case you decide to be a good girl.
00:18:50Well, but these are good enough to send your father, or the newspapers.
00:18:53What do you want?
00:18:54Just sit down and relax, like Ina said.
00:18:58You know, your old man set me up for two years once.
00:19:02I don't know anything about my father's business.
00:19:06Funny how things work out.
00:19:11Yeah, pal, I used to drink champagne like I drink beer now.
00:19:15And my steel companies went broke.
00:19:16My wife went south with all my war bonds, and my horse ran last in the Derby.
00:19:20Yeah, women, horses, and steel companies ain't to be trusted.
00:19:23I put all my spare cash in charity work.
00:19:26Oh, yeah?
00:19:27Like buying a beer for a starving drunk?
00:19:30Are you broke, mister?
00:19:32No, I'm just conservative.
00:19:35See, I pinch pennies instead of tossing for them.
00:19:38I might loosen up with enough to buy you a beer, though.
00:19:41I wouldn't want to upset your budget.
00:19:42Anyway, we always buy a couple of rounds for a new customer.
00:19:48Well, thanks.
00:19:50You work here?
00:19:51I'm afraid I own the place.
00:19:54Well, shake hands with a man who's never been prejudiced about beautiful women having money.
00:19:59I'm Anna Perdue.
00:20:01Oh, and I bet Mr. Perdue isn't kicking about that.
00:20:03Not often.
00:20:05Jeff Andrews.
00:20:06Where are you from, Jeff?
00:20:08Well, I just came back from Russia, where I've been trying to negotiate a loan for Uncle Sam.
00:20:12How did you do?
00:20:15I think that boat's only run one way.
00:20:17What'd you do before that?
00:20:19Look, let's not talk about me.
00:20:22Tell me.
00:20:23What do you do for amusement while Mr. Perdue is busy counting his blessings?
00:20:27Oh, I sit around, read a few good books, and I try to entertain the customers.
00:20:33All of them?
00:20:35The ones who interest me.
00:20:38You going to be around?
00:20:40You coming back?
00:20:41Well, I have a few things to attend to first.
00:20:44Will you wait?
00:20:47Honey, I'll homestead this stool.
00:21:10Hey, Bill.
00:21:11Match?
00:21:13Yeah.
00:21:15Hey, you picked my pocket.
00:21:17Eleven bucks isn't much, but it's enough.
00:21:19Come on, give me back my dough.
00:21:20Take it easy, stupid.
00:21:22Give me my dough.
00:21:23Okay.
00:21:23come for me.
00:21:34Well, take them upstairs.
00:21:35Today, we bring him upstairs.
00:21:35Let's do it.
00:21:36Well, take it upstairs.
00:21:39Come on, get it.
00:21:39Come on, get it.
00:21:41Okay.
00:21:42Come on.
00:21:43Come on.
00:21:43Come on.
00:21:44Come on, get it there.
00:21:45Come on.
00:21:45Come on.
00:21:45Come on up.
00:21:46Come on.
00:21:46Stay there.
00:21:48Yeah.
00:21:49All right.
00:21:50Who is he?
00:21:51I don't know.
00:21:52He just drove me out here.
00:21:53With you at the wheel?
00:21:54I thought I told you to come alone.
00:21:57Being with me is practically the same thing.
00:22:00Well, you didn't leave us for long.
00:22:03How do you fit in with this, Junior?
00:22:06Oh, just perfect.
00:22:10Too perfect to be framed by that phony pickpocket routine, see?
00:22:13When I wire a touch, nobody gets wise.
00:22:16Hold it, Pepe.
00:22:17Yes, careless.
00:22:18Go back down to your rumba.
00:22:20I'll see you later, guy.
00:22:22I mean it.
00:22:23Beg it soon, Buster.
00:22:24I'm out on bail.
00:22:26Well, my associate's probably got you wrong.
00:22:29Sound as if you know what the score is.
00:22:31Being one of the better candidates in the country
00:22:33and having a record to prove it, I keep the score.
00:22:35What's your connection with the librarian?
00:22:37You carry your books home?
00:22:39Who's the big wheel around here?
00:22:41I only talk to him.
00:22:42Then you're out of luck.
00:22:43Nobody talks to him except through us.
00:22:45Barky, we'll check the boss about this lovely man.
00:22:48Right.
00:22:49If he's a professional, he's got a record.
00:22:51Then what would you be doing with her?
00:22:53Admiring her taking ways?
00:22:55Now listen, beautiful.
00:22:57There's no connection between us.
00:22:58We're just passing acquaintances.
00:23:00And I fumble the passes.
00:23:02Champ, lock these two in the showroom.
00:23:12What's she doing?
00:23:13Making that nickel to telephone your boss?
00:23:27Hey.
00:23:28You want I should be your friend?
00:23:29Teach me a few touches about pickpocketing.
00:23:30Well, before you can be a wire, you have to have steady hands.
00:23:33Hey.
00:23:34Nervous, huh?
00:23:35Go get yourself a box of matches.
00:23:36What kind of steer is that?
00:23:37I want to learn how to steal money, not matches.
00:23:38No, you have to limber up your fingers by practicing tying knots inside of a matchbox.
00:23:39Oh, that's the way you start, huh?
00:23:40That's the way you start.
00:23:41If you get stuck, I'll help you out.
00:23:42Okay, I'll help you out.
00:23:43Oh, you're coming in.
00:23:44No, you're coming in.
00:23:45No, thanks.
00:23:46I'm coming out.
00:23:47And you're coming in.
00:23:48Well, if you're not here, I'll be at a cup of water.
00:23:49Why would youAB be the best?
00:23:50Because I'll be on the beach.
00:23:51Oh, it's not here.
00:23:52Hey, you want I should be your friend?
00:23:53Teach me a few touches about pickpocketing.
00:23:54Well, before you can be a wire, you have to have steady hands.
00:23:57Hey, nervous, huh?
00:23:58Go get yourself a box of matches.
00:23:59That's the way you start. If you get stuck, I'll help you out.
00:24:10Well, we're locked in.
00:24:14Well, at least we haven't got the champ's hot breath in our necks.
00:24:17What are you doing in this thing?
00:24:20Looking after you and I'm not getting lumps on my head.
00:24:22But there's more to it than that.
00:24:25Don't try to figure the criminal mind face.
00:24:27But are you in it with them?
00:24:29Oh, sure. That's why they beat me half to death.
00:24:33They've got photostats in my confession.
00:24:36They work smooth.
00:24:37But they still haven't told me what they want.
00:24:39They will. Judging from the looks of things, you're going to have to do a little shoplifting.
00:24:44Oh, but I couldn't do that. Whatever you might think of me, I'm not really a thief.
00:24:48So you're not, and I am.
00:24:50You can still play along with them until you get back that confession.
00:24:53But how do I know she'll keep her word?
00:24:55You don't. But you haven't any choice, Faye, believe me.
00:24:58Oh, I knew I shouldn't have come here.
00:25:01It was dishonest even want my confession back her way.
00:25:04Take it easy. Take it easy.
00:25:05Come here.
00:25:07Put your arms around me. Come here.
00:25:11Now look, the room is wired and they're listening. So just do what they tell you.
00:25:20Well, talk the champ into leaving so you can steal a few kisses.
00:25:24How sweet.
00:25:26It passes the time.
00:25:28Do you always make time?
00:25:30I try.
00:25:32What are you doing later?
00:25:33Why don't you ask me later?
00:25:35Oh, am I going to be around to ask?
00:25:37The head man hasn't quite made up his mind about you.
00:25:41But you.
00:25:43You're lucky.
00:25:44The boss says give you another chance.
00:25:47You want to work with us?
00:25:48When will I get the confession back?
00:25:50That's in the head man's department.
00:25:51He's the store contact and final word.
00:25:54I'm just here to teach you how to shoplift.
00:25:59Well, you'll get a liberal education anyway.
00:26:01Say, do you mind if I watch the training session?
00:26:04No. Help us out.
00:26:06You can't be serious about all this.
00:26:08You better be. So pay attention.
00:26:10You'll have homework too.
00:26:12And I ask questions later.
00:26:17Say, how did you get into this racket?
00:26:19Started out as a juvenile delinquent and worked my way up.
00:26:25Just lucky, I guess.
00:26:27Now watch.
00:26:31These are booster bloomers.
00:26:34Good for plenty.
00:26:36And a 15 year one way stretch if you get caught wearing them in a store.
00:26:40Good for plenty.
00:27:03This is your booster box for furs.
00:27:05Watch.
00:27:10Good for plenty.
00:27:17If you practice enough,
00:27:18you can steal the shirts off their backs.
00:27:21Yeah, when you get that good,
00:27:22I wear a 16 collar and a 36 sleeve.
00:27:28I'll let her practice all night since she gets such a bang out of it.
00:27:32How's your head?
00:27:33Is that the way you entertain your customers?
00:27:35Well, now Jeff, you can't blame us too much.
00:27:37I ask you some straight questions and I get nothing but double talk.
00:27:40What do you think I do?
00:27:41Walk into a bar and start yelling about my record?
00:27:43You didn't just walk in.
00:27:44You came with a girl.
00:27:46So does that rate a skull fraction?
00:27:48That all depends.
00:27:50I was picked up with her this morning.
00:27:52I already know that.
00:27:54Listen, I've been hanging around stores for weeks trying to get a lead to you.
00:27:56Why?
00:27:58I heard through the grapevine that you had a talent scout operating.
00:28:01So I just followed pigeons in the department stores until one led me to you.
00:28:04What else have you heard?
00:28:06Enough to make me pack a gun to play safe.
00:28:08What's your next move?
00:28:10I'd like to get through time employment in your organization.
00:28:13We take our time about making up our minds.
00:28:16I haven't got much time.
00:28:17Either I jump in now and go back and play footsie with the judge.
00:28:19You've got a couple of days.
00:28:21So?
00:28:22Just relax.
00:28:23Enjoy the scenery.
00:28:24Do I get my gun back?
00:28:25No.
00:28:26When?
00:28:27Later.
00:28:28Maybe.
00:28:30This is my downtown address.
00:28:31Give me a call tomorrow.
00:28:33That takes care of tomorrow.
00:28:35What about the rest of tonight?
00:28:37You better sleep off that bump on your head.
00:28:40No dances, no campaign or anything to celebrate our being friends again.
00:28:43Curb your boy's enthusiasm.
00:28:45We've got plenty of time to be friendly.
00:28:48Round one goes to the ladies' corner.
00:28:51I'm not particularly interested in winning from you, Jeff.
00:28:54Good night.
00:28:55Good night.
00:28:56Now listen.
00:28:57Good night.
00:29:00Good night.
00:29:24all my team.
00:29:35All right, lay off.
00:29:36All right now get this.
00:29:38If I can tell your boss to quit sending your boy to do a man's job.
00:29:42She wants to know where I'm staying them
00:29:43at the Sunset Hotel downtown.
00:29:44And listen hard, stupid.
00:29:46If you ever pull a knife on me again, I'll whittle your ears off.
00:29:50Now, go on, beat it.
00:30:07How been, buddy? Going as far as Laguna?
00:30:09No, but I'll take you part way.
00:30:11No thanks, pal. I'll wait for the next one.
00:30:13What do you want? Door-to-door delivery?
00:30:25Going as far as Laguna?
00:30:26Further, to Oceanside.
00:30:28Well, that's just where I'm going.
00:30:35Anything to report?
00:30:36Yeah, I have a date to call the boss's wife,
00:30:38but instead of phoning, I want to surprise her in person.
00:30:40I heard you were a fast worker,
00:30:42but after driving up and down this highway all night,
00:30:44I was beginning to think you had lost your sex appeal or something.
00:30:47Where is your date?
00:30:49Well, here's their phone number and address.
00:30:51Miss Alfred believes in match cover advertising.
00:30:53Another way to get in more pockets.
00:31:12Okay, he's here.
00:31:13Let's go, boys.
00:31:14Open the bug.
00:31:15It takes a couple of seconds to warm up, Lieutenant.
00:31:18Which mic do you want first in?
00:31:20The back of the store, her office.
00:31:21But can't we get into trouble, pal?
00:31:23We're out of county territory here.
00:31:24What are you worried about?
00:31:25Bascom got clearance from the L.A. Police Department.
00:31:28And this isn't wiretapping.
00:31:30We squirted with the building superintendent
00:31:32and planted our mics at six this morning.
00:31:36Here it comes.
00:31:38I told you to call me, not to come here.
00:31:41Do you always just barge in on people?
00:31:43Oh, I believe in the direct approach.
00:31:46Hmm.
00:31:47It's effective, but the results aren't always what you expect.
00:31:51I haven't had any complaints so far.
00:31:54That's a matter of opinion.
00:31:57Was that nice of you to rough up poor Pepe last night?
00:32:00You've given him an inferiority complex.
00:32:02I see he delivered my message.
00:32:04You must know how to handle yourself.
00:32:06Pepe's no amateur with a knife.
00:32:07Would you like to feel my muscles?
00:32:09Hmm.
00:32:10Later.
00:32:17Does that make you feel better?
00:32:18Oh, yes.
00:32:19I was a little worried, you see,
00:32:20because a bunch of us were getting up
00:32:21a game of cowboys and Indians tonight.
00:32:23You must have checked up on me some more.
00:32:25Maybe.
00:32:26Well, do I get a job?
00:32:27We don't use professionals as boosters.
00:32:30I was aiming higher than that.
00:32:31I was thinking of something more in the,
00:32:33you know, the executive line.
00:32:34Take your time.
00:32:36Do I get to see the set-up?
00:32:38Some of it.
00:32:46Come on, kids. I'm in a hurry.
00:32:48We got something real sharp for you today.
00:32:53Electric razor.
00:33:00Where'd you pick her up?
00:33:01She's okay.
00:33:02Ask Pepe.
00:33:03Honest.
00:33:04Well, I have something for you, too.
00:33:05We're going partners.
00:33:11Where you from, kid?
00:33:12Beverly Hills.
00:33:13I just got out of juvenile hall for finding a pocketbook.
00:33:16Where'd you find these?
00:33:17In an oyster bed?
00:33:18Oh, it's...
00:33:19They're my aunts.
00:33:20I live with her.
00:33:21She thinks she lost them.
00:33:22Well, take this junk back.
00:33:24She paid too much for them in the five and ten.
00:33:26Gee, I thought with this razor and jewelry,
00:33:28you'd sure give her some real credit.
00:33:30Hey, Pepe.
00:33:31How much do you think this junk is worth, huh?
00:33:39Depends on where you got the razor.
00:33:41Does it have a year's guarantee?
00:33:43Hey, wait a minute.
00:33:44Shorty Kaiser got five bucks for a two-headed razor.
00:33:46This thing's got three heads.
00:33:48Closer shape.
00:33:49Well, kid.
00:33:50Five bucks for the razor.
00:33:52Snatch more razors in a good ring,
00:33:54and we'll see what we can do, huh?
00:33:56Okay.
00:33:57You can get the ring?
00:33:58Sure.
00:33:59See you tomorrow.
00:34:00If we can make it.
00:34:01Keep your mouth shut and you'll make it.
00:34:06How you like?
00:34:07Oh, two-bit stuff.
00:34:08Kids, electric razors.
00:34:09You think so?
00:34:11What if any of these kids get caught?
00:34:12They'll yap like frightened puppies.
00:34:14Oh, no.
00:34:15Every once in a while we accuse one of ratting.
00:34:17Rough them up good and the word gets around.
00:34:19Routine, you know.
00:34:21None of them talk.
00:34:22Oh, I get it.
00:34:24Get enough of these kids working in ten or twelve cities,
00:34:26and it adds up to quite a bit of spending money.
00:34:29But where does the loan company come in?
00:34:31It's legitimate.
00:34:32And it's also a nice way of paying off our shoplifters.
00:34:35They come in supposedly for a loan,
00:34:37and we give them their percentage of the take.
00:34:39It's a nice, safe payoff.
00:34:41And they, uh, never see the fence?
00:34:43Never.
00:34:44Well, uh, how do you dump the stuff?
00:34:47That's the beautiful part of the setup.
00:34:49And that's the part you don't see yet.
00:34:52You don't trust me.
00:34:54Or anybody else.
00:34:57Well, uh...
00:35:01Maybe I like being the exception.
00:35:03I can like you, without trusting you.
00:35:05Aren't you curious about what happened to your librarian?
00:35:09Uh-uh.
00:35:10Not since I met you.
00:35:11She's good.
00:35:12We're gonna put her right on our job.
00:35:14Swell.
00:35:15If she makes good, maybe she can lend me five bucks.
00:35:17Now, Jeff,
00:35:18I'd be hurt if you took money from another woman.
00:35:20Oh, wouldn't you be more hurt if you woke up one morning
00:35:22and found me starved to death?
00:35:24Come over to the place tonight.
00:35:25We'll see if we can't find something for you to do.
00:35:28No, we'll find something, all right.
00:35:30Incidentally, where's this husband of yours?
00:35:33Right up here.
00:35:35I invent him every once in a while.
00:35:37To keep away people I don't like.
00:35:39Well, now.
00:35:40Hearing that's like putting on a pair of rose-colored glasses.
00:35:43Well, keep them off until tonight.
00:35:48Am I, um...
00:35:49Dismissed now?
00:35:50That's right.
00:35:52Come in.
00:35:54Well, Pepe.
00:35:57How are things on the Simi side of life?
00:36:00What are you doing here?
00:36:01I just thought you and I might go out and have a malt of milk together.
00:36:04Smart, aren't you?
00:36:06I'll never turn my back on you again.
00:36:08Don't.
00:36:10Listen, um...
00:36:11Don't hang around him too much, will you?
00:36:13Some of it might rub off.
00:36:17Bye.
00:36:20What's he doing here?
00:36:22What do you care?
00:36:23I just don't like it, that's all.
00:36:25I'll worry myself sick about that.
00:36:28Well, I don't think it's smart to have him here.
00:36:30That's not for you to decide, Pepe.
00:36:33And after this, just stay in your own department.
00:36:35Shut it off.
00:36:36Where are those...
00:36:37Let's get a hold of Jeff and see what's next.
00:36:39You better be careful, Lieutenant.
00:36:46Are you sure you have Faye watched all the time?
00:36:48As close as we can.
00:36:50They let the girl go sometime this morning, Jeff.
00:36:52She went home.
00:36:53Everything's going fine, you're making progress.
00:36:55Yeah, I don't want this girl exposed any longer than I have to.
00:36:58We better not meet again until we're ready to make an arrest.
00:37:03Watch yourself.
00:37:04We're dealing with a very clever gang.
00:37:05If they get wind of anything, you're in trouble.
00:37:07Will I really get the confession back after I do this?
00:37:22I've told you that's not in my department.
00:37:25Anyway, you're luckier than most of our beginners.
00:37:27You get a big job right away.
00:37:29Why do I have to go to San Diego?
00:37:31Use your head.
00:37:33You want to start working this town where you just got picked up?
00:37:36Nobody knows you down there.
00:37:38For heaven's sakes, why can't I tell my aunt?
00:37:40It's Labor Day weekend.
00:37:42You're taking a vacation.
00:37:44When you get down there, check in someplace.
00:37:46And call the number I gave you and tell them where you are.
00:37:48They'll send you a list of stuff we want you to get.
00:37:50Well, can't you give me the list now?
00:37:52No.
00:37:53Barky has to case the stores down there first.
00:37:55And quit asking so many questions.
00:37:57And get along because I'm expecting someone.
00:38:00If I only knew for sure that I'd get the confession back.
00:38:03Well, you don't.
00:38:05Here.
00:38:07Your nerves are on edge.
00:38:08Take one of these and you'll relax.
00:38:10Go ahead.
00:38:25Don't you think of turning on the ignition?
00:38:39How's school?
00:38:40Jeff, I've got to talk to you.
00:38:41I have a date.
00:38:43Please, Jeff, just a few minutes.
00:38:45I'll bring you right back.
00:38:46Just a few minutes. I'll bring you right back.
00:38:48Okay, but let's get out of here before she spots me. Move over.
00:39:16You see, kid, that's their angle.
00:39:20Barkey goes ahead and scouts the out-of-town stores.
00:39:23Then they bring the Los Angeles bunch down to work them.
00:39:25And they probably have a San Diego bunch that comes up and works the Los Angeles stores.
00:39:31Jeff, I can't go through with it. I'm frightened.
00:39:37That's just stage fright on your first job.
00:39:39Look at what it is. I can't do it. I've made up my mind I'm going to the police.
00:39:42Faye, supposing I were to promise you that if you did this job,
00:39:46it'd be the last one you'd ever have to do.
00:39:48How can you promise that?
00:39:50Look, you go down to San Diego and I'll get your stuff for you.
00:39:53And all you got to do is deliver it to them.
00:39:54You make the grade, I'll see that you get your confession back.
00:39:57You're sure this is right, Jeff?
00:39:59Trust me, it is. And leave me, Faye.
00:40:02If you went to the police now, it would be extremely dangerous for you.
00:40:05What difference does it make anyway, Jeff? I'm hopeless. I know that.
00:40:08You're wrong. Now look, you go in and pack a bag, I'll drive you down.
00:40:11We'll stop some place on the way and make a phone call so you can contact them tonight.
00:40:20What about your date with Ina?
00:40:21I'll call her and break it.
00:40:41I'm at the Casa de Mañana in La Jolla, Cabana 5.
00:40:55All right, kid, you stay there.
00:40:57I'm sending someone out with your list and the rest of the instructions.
00:41:00Everything needs to be picked up and delivered by one o'clock tomorrow afternoon.
00:41:03You got it?
00:41:04All right.
00:41:07He's sending someone out with the list and some instructions.
00:41:10Good.
00:41:11Now look, don't worry, I'll be right in the next cabin.
00:41:19Jeff, couldn't you stay here for a while? I'm scared.
00:41:23No, that wouldn't be smart.
00:41:25Besides, there's nothing to be afraid of.
00:41:27I'm taking care of everything from here on in.
00:41:30Now let me know as soon as he goes.
00:41:57I don't know.
00:42:27Come on.
00:42:57Come on.
00:43:18Who is it?
00:43:19It's me, Epi.
00:43:27Hiya, kid.
00:43:32Well, you're in the big league now.
00:43:34How does it feel?
00:43:35Have you got a list for me?
00:43:36Uh-huh.
00:43:42We gave you a lot of easy stuff.
00:43:43Now, don't get careless.
00:43:50Maybe we'll have a little celebration tonight.
00:43:53I'm awfully tired tonight, Pepe.
00:43:57Sure, sure.
00:44:00Good luck.
00:44:13Jeff?
00:44:27Hey!
00:44:28Hey!
00:44:29Hey!
00:44:30Hey!
00:44:31Hey!
00:44:32Hey, hey!
00:45:02Hey, hey!
00:45:32Hey, hey!
00:46:02Hey!
00:46:08Hey!
00:46:10Hey!
00:46:18Hey!
00:46:24Hey!
00:46:34Hey!
00:46:40Hey!
00:46:50Hey!
00:46:56How many have you taken?
00:46:58I don't remember.
00:47:06Hey!
00:47:08Hey!
00:47:12You better get those wet clothes off and try to get some sleep.
00:47:14Where are you going, Jeff?
00:47:16Just dry off.
00:47:18I'll be within calling distance.
00:47:22Jeff!
00:47:26Well, how are you feeling?
00:47:34Well, how are you feeling?
00:47:36Better.
00:47:38Good.
00:47:40I don't remember too much what happened.
00:47:42Well, I'm not surprised.
00:47:46I'm not surprised.
00:47:50You feel well enough to listen to something?
00:47:52Yes.
00:47:53Well, I'm going to try to make something right.
00:47:54That was one of the most wrong things I've ever done.
00:47:56What, Jeff?
00:47:58You've been going around for the last few days taking a lot of chances.
00:48:00I had to.
00:48:01You wouldn't have had a choice.
00:48:02But I didn't have a choice.
00:48:04I could have stopped the whole thing, Faye.
00:48:06You see, I'm with the Sheriff's Office.
00:48:08You...
00:48:10The Sheriff's Office?
00:48:12But...
00:48:13I don't understand.
00:48:14We've been watching you ever since this thing started.
00:48:16But why me?
00:48:18Someone had to lead us to them.
00:48:20We had to start some time.
00:48:22You had to lead us to them.
00:48:24We had to start some time.
00:48:26You've been watching you ever since this thing started.
00:48:28But why me?
00:48:30Someone had to lead us to them.
00:48:32We had to start somewhere.
00:48:34Why didn't you arrest them then?
00:48:36We haven't got all we want yet.
00:48:38We still have to find out where they get rid of the stuff they steal.
00:48:41But you haven't finished yet.
00:48:43Why tell me now?
00:48:44Well, there are a lot of reasons.
00:48:46First, I think you have the right to make up your own mind,
00:48:48whether or not you want to take any more chances.
00:48:50I don't see that it makes any difference.
00:48:52It makes all the difference in the world to me, Faye.
00:48:55Oh, Jeff, nothing matters anymore.
00:48:57When they arrest them, everything's going to come out about me anyway.
00:49:00Nothing's going to come out about you.
00:49:02If I do what?
00:49:03That's just what I'm telling you.
00:49:04You don't have to do anything else.
00:49:06You're in the clear.
00:49:08I'll tear up your confession personally.
00:49:13You know, you're awfully convincing as a pickpocket.
00:49:16Yeah.
00:49:17I may have to go back to that yet if I don't pull this off.
00:49:19And that's how you knew all those things about me.
00:49:22Mm-hmm.
00:49:23See, I've studied some criminal psychology.
00:49:25You think that maybe I could...
00:49:28That you could be cured and nothing flat.
00:49:30Oh, Jeff, I'll try to go through with the rest of it.
00:49:33Uh-uh.
00:49:34Not if it's going to affect you the way it has.
00:49:36Well, it's sort of different now.
00:49:39What do you want me to do?
00:49:41Just deliver to them the stuff that I get for you.
00:49:44Where?
00:49:45It's in your instructions.
00:49:47A warehouse.
00:49:48Where will you be?
00:49:50Close enough if anything happens.
00:49:53Jeff.
00:49:56You said there were a lot of reasons why you wanted me to know.
00:50:01So far, you've only told me one.
00:50:06Well, the others are far more important.
00:50:12Sure, Baskin, all the cooperation you want.
00:50:14Just a minute, I'll let you talk to him.
00:50:18Hello, Sheriff Baskin.
00:50:19You better get down here.
00:50:20Can you make it before one o'clock?
00:50:21You have everything set up?
00:50:23Hold it a second.
00:50:24Will your boys be able to fill that list all right?
00:50:26Yeah, they're making arrangements with the department store now.
00:50:29Let's be sure and get these items back.
00:50:31Or it'll come out of my salary.
00:50:33Everything's being taken care of by the San Diego Sheriff's Office.
00:50:36Right.
00:50:39San Diego.
00:50:40Right now.
00:50:41I'd better go with you.
00:50:43No, you stay here. I'll keep in touch with you.
00:50:45Klaxon, I'll go over those circulars with you later.
00:50:52Operator, I want to place a long-distance call to San Diego.
00:50:56Main, 4-3-2-3-8. That's right.
00:50:58Park it here, baby.
00:50:59Taffy, am I going to see you tonight?
00:51:00Not tonight, maybe no more.
00:51:01Come back in ten minutes for the car, huh?
00:51:02Get lost now.
00:51:03Get lost now.
00:51:04Come on, get lost now.

00:51:10Taffy, could I see you later?
00:51:11No.
00:51:12Maybe not.
00:51:13Don't be seen.
00:51:14Come on.
00:51:15You're behind me.

00:52:14You'll find out.
00:52:18Pull into the warehouse.
00:52:25You, get in the office upstairs there. Ina wants to talk to you.

00:52:41What would I be doing with Jeff?
00:52:42You know your habits better than I do.
00:52:43So he decided to let you take it all along.
00:52:44I don't know what you mean.
00:52:45Don't give me that.
00:52:46We know who he is and who he's working for.
00:52:47It's a little late, I'll admit.

00:59:52Well, the girl's inside that truck. You've got to get her out of there.
00:59:54I'm sorry, Jeff. We can't let personal feelings enter this.
00:59:56Must follow through as planned.
00:59:58Well, can't you have the customs officers make some kind of an inspection
01:00:01so you can get her out of there?

01:00:40Very neat.
01:00:46I guess they must inspect him once in a while,
01:00:48but on holidays and weekends, they just wave him through.
01:01:10THE END
01:01:40It's a close call, but we made it.
01:02:01Maybe.
01:02:01What makes us so sure they're half, Ina?
01:02:03Let's just say it's a woman's intuition.
01:02:04Then why do we run?
01:02:05Because I didn't want to leave all the stuff there.
01:02:07The boss's orders?
01:02:08Yeah.
01:02:08I want all this stuff before they get jurisdiction over us.
01:02:14Peppy, take her down to the basement and tie her up.

01:03:35I'm sorry to have kept you waiting.
01:03:38Well, were you able to reach Sheriff Bascón?
01:03:39Did he contact the truck?
01:03:40The truck?
01:03:41I do not know.
01:03:42It is somewhere on this side of the border.
01:03:44But it is now all right for you to join your party.
01:03:46Our officer will spark you.
01:03:48Well, what happened?
01:03:49You know, Jeff, on this side of the border,
01:03:51suspects are out of the U.S. jurisdiction.
01:03:53We are now working with the Mexican Federal Police.
01:03:55Oh, great.
01:03:56We have international complications on a Labor Day Saturday night.
01:03:58This way, please, gentlemen.
01:04:00And welcome to Tijuana, Mexico.
01:04:02Okay, forget the red carpet.
01:04:03Come on, Mr. Bambu.
01:04:13Come on, Mr. Bambu.
01:04:27Where's the girl?
01:04:28We're holding her down there in the basement of that auction house.
01:04:30Where are you going?
01:04:31Well, down there.
01:04:32Wait a minute.
01:04:32There's nothing you can do.
01:04:33There's nothing we can do.
01:04:35The Mexican Federal Police have to make the rage.
01:04:37Hold it, Jeff.
01:04:38Look, you're the sheriff.
01:04:39Hands tied by international law.
01:04:40Me, I'm just a shoplifter out on bail, remember?
01:04:42Hands free temporarily.
01:04:43Hey, Jeff, wait.
01:04:44Look, sheriff.
01:04:45Send your Mexican FBI after me, will you?
01:04:47I'm out of your jurisdiction now.
01:04:48Come in and be amazed.
01:04:51Hey, ya, hey, ya, what about this?
01:04:53But his main brand electric race is starting at $2.
01:04:56Do I hear $4?
01:04:58$4.
01:04:58I got $4.
01:04:59Do I hear $6?
01:05:00$6.

01:05:01$6 once, $6 twice.
01:05:04Sold to the gentleman with the 5 o'clock shadow.
01:05:07And now one of the skins you'd love to touch.
01:05:10A genuine mink.
01:05:12Come on, Shakina.
01:05:13Show the folks what happens to a mink if it's lucky.
01:05:16What about this?
01:05:17Speak up, George.
01:05:18Make the fur fly.

01:05:24Oh, come on, honey.
01:05:25You said we were coming down here for fun.
01:05:27Go ahead.
01:05:28Have fun.

01:05:31I got $2,500.
01:05:37Hey, Ruth.
01:05:38Tonight anybody can afford a mink.
01:05:40I got $2,500 once.

01:05:58No shooting, chap.
01:06:02It won't do you any good, Jeff.
01:06:05It's too bad you're on the wrong side of the fence.
01:06:08We could have done big things together.
01:06:24Fire!
01:06:29Fire!
01:06:35Fire!
01:06:37Fire!
01:06:40Sorry, pal. I hope there ain't any hard feelings.
01:06:46Hold it, Peppy.
01:06:52The raid signal. I'll get the girl.
01:06:54Wait a minute. What about him? We'd better ditch him, no?
01:06:57Why don't you two get smart? Don't you know they wouldn't have busted in until they'd surrounded the place?
01:07:01But what are we gonna do? Stay here and get caught like rats in a mousetrap?
01:07:04We'd better get rid of them, huh?
01:07:05And get picked up for murder instead of just shoplifting?
01:07:08But they know too much.
01:07:09Everybody knows everything already.
01:07:11I know, please. Ain't we even gonna try to get out of here?
01:07:13And get shot down? No.
01:07:15We're gonna stay right here and get picked up. Nice and quiet like.
01:07:20All right, now, you all know about international law. If you don't waive extradition, you may be stuck down here for over a year or two.
01:07:27As far as we're concerned, you can all rot down here. You're no danger to us anymore.
01:07:33But remember this. If any of you want to kick through at some information, we'll get you back and try to get you off light.
01:07:37We know there's one more guy. We know he's one of the detectives at the Marsden department store. He had to be to have access to Miss Burton's confession.
01:07:46All right, suckers, we'll get him anyway.
01:07:48We might as well go.
01:07:50We might as well go.
01:08:20It's really a shame, Jeff. You would have made such a lovely crook.
01:08:29Why don't you play it smart, Ina?
01:08:31That's what I'm doing. You won't get the boy you're after. When he hears we've been picked up, he'll skip.
01:08:39And what good is that gonna do you?
01:08:41He's got plenty of money to play around with, to get us out of here.
01:08:45Don't depend on it.
01:08:46I won't. But it's a good long shot.
01:08:49So long, Anna.
01:09:01How's Faye?
01:09:02Fine. She'll be ready to go back with us.
01:09:04Can we wind this up tonight, sir?
01:09:05Yeah, we'll take a plane back and pick up this guy before he finds out we've got the others.
01:09:09Round up all the store detectives. We'll meet them in Claxton's office in two hours.
01:09:13Okay.
01:09:14Yeah, I want this thing finished up in time for my honeymoon tomorrow.
01:09:22So we know for sure that it has to be one of you.
01:09:25I know it sounds incredible. You've all been investigated so many times.
01:09:29At least 50.
01:09:31I know, and I'm sorry.
01:09:34And that's why I thought if any of you had noticed anything, anything out of line, if we had, we would have reported it, Mr. Dunson.
01:09:41Well, there's somebody here. And everybody's a suspect until we find out who.
01:09:46Who?
01:09:47I'll pick her.
01:09:50Yes?
01:09:52All right. Bring her up.
01:09:55There's a girl coming up who can positively identify the voice of one of you as being the voice she heard at the Casa del Mar the other night.
01:10:08Please, I'd like some water.
01:10:10Get her some water, Gomez.
01:10:19Someone's slipping out the door.
01:10:22You people stay here. Close that door, Gomez.
01:10:40Come on.
01:11:01Are you okay?
01:11:02Sure, it's just my arm.
01:11:03Now, you stay here and don't budge.
01:11:10You stay here.
01:11:11A little bit of a light.
01:11:12Come on.
01:11:13Let's go.
01:11:14No, no, no.
01:11:16Come on.
01:11:17Come on.
01:11:18Come on.
01:11:20Come on.
01:11:21Goodbye.
01:11:23Come on.
01:11:26Come on.
01:11:28Come on.
01:11:29Come on.
01:11:31Come on.
01:11:32Come on.
01:11:33Come on.
01:11:34What do you mean?
01:11:35What, do you mean?
01:11:36Come on.
01:11:37Come on.
01:11:38Oh, my God.
01:12:08I don't get it, Clexon. You, of all people, after all these years.
01:12:28Yes, I know.
01:12:29And you're the head of this whole gang?
01:12:31No.
01:12:32I didn't want everybody to think I was, but I was just a stooge like the rest.
01:12:36How did you ever get mixed up with her?
01:12:38I picked her up boosting about three years ago.
01:12:41I fell for her.
01:12:44I've never been able to break away.
01:12:46All right, take them out.
01:12:48Check that woman upstairs who fainted.
01:12:51How's Lieutenant Palm?
01:12:52They'll be all right. They're taking care of him.
01:12:54Isn't it funny, Sheriff, how I can be right in the middle of something very important
01:12:57and still be thinking about something else at the same time?
01:13:00Look what I picked up during that chase upstairs.
01:13:02Don't take your last two days too seriously.
01:13:05Just put this on the account that I'm opening here tomorrow.
01:13:07Come on.
01:13:09Come on.
