Indonesian village recovers human body, elephant calf after devastating floods

The death toll from floods and landslides on the western Indonesian island of Sumatra this week has risen to 174, a disaster official said on Nov. 28, 2025, with about 80 more people missing. In the remote Indonesian village of Mesjid Tuha, rescue workers recovered a human body and the carcass of a young elephant.
