Oscar winners Alan Arkin and Kathy Bates, as well as Teyana Taylor have joined Casey Affleck in indie heist thriller 'The Smack'.

00:00We now know a few more stars who are joining Casey Affleck in the indie heist thriller The
00:04Smack. The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively reveal that Oscar winners Alan Arkin and Kathy
00:09Bates have signed on to the project, as has Tiana Taylor. They join a growing cast that already
00:14includes Marissa Tomei, among other actors. David M. Rosenthal is directing the feature that starts
00:20shooting in LA later this fall. The Smack sees Affleck play a con man who has hit rock bottom
00:25when he meets an upstart hustler to be played by Taylor. After a tip from a wise con played
00:29by Arkin, the two of them head to LA to pull off the biggest scam of their lives, but they learn
00:34they aren't the only ones looking for the money, as are other scammers, including the con man's
00:39ambitious ex played by Tomei. As the con unfolds, the man can't figure out if he is actually falling
00:44in love with the woman or if he's being set up for the ultimate grift. Arkin is the veteran actor who
00:49won a Best Supporting Oscar for his performance in Little Miss Sunshine and was nominated in the
00:54same category for Argo, among three other times. He recently starred opposite Michael Douglas in
00:59The Kaminsky Method. Bates won her Oscar for her performance in 1990's Stephen King adaptation
01:04Misery and most recently nabbed a nomination in 2020 for Richard Jewell. She next appears in
01:10Are You There God, It's Me, Margaret, which is due out in 2023. Singer-turned-actress Taylor appeared
01:15in Coming to America and is currently shooting a remake of White Men Can't Jump. For more on this
