00:00A new trailer for the sci-fi action comedy Free Guy starring Ryan Reynolds is generating

00:13quite a bit of buzz, giving the Hollywood box office a glimmer of hope.

00:17The Free Guy trailer, which dropped early on October 5th, generated an impressive 55

00:22million views in its first 24 hours.

00:24That easily surpasses the number of people who viewed the film's first trailer late

00:28last year, which was 40 million.

00:30The interest generated by the trailer is of course a sign of good news for Hollywood, as

00:33the box office struggles to keep titles on the 2020 marquee.

00:37In terms of comps, this week's Free Guy trailer surpassed director Sean Levy's Ready Player

00:411, which had 44.5 million views, and Marvel's family-friendly Ant-Man and the Wasp, which

00:46had 50 million.

00:48Also in its first 24 hours, the trailer boasted 12 million views on Instagram alone.

00:53Free Guy revolves around a character in a video game who becomes self-aware and begins to

00:57change the rules of the world by becoming the hero as opposed to an NPC, or non-player character.

01:03The film also stars Jodie Comer, Joe Keery, and Taika Waititi, among others.
