00:00This is the best movie I've ever done.
00:02It's the most fun I've ever had.
00:05Leighton Meester and Robbie Amell play an ex-couple
00:07who unexpectedly end up celebrating Christmas together
00:10in the new holiday rom-com, Xmas.
00:13You're kind of freaking out.
00:14You invited my ex-fiance to Christmas.
00:17You know, I really should go.
00:18You're not going anywhere.
00:19I have to get mom and dad to dump Allie.
00:21Otherwise, I'm going to be sharing my family forever.
00:23The pair spoke to The Hollywood Reporter
00:25all about working on the lighthearted Christmas film,
00:27including why they wanted to be a part of it.
00:30Honestly, when I read the script, I was like,
00:31oh, man, a Christmas movie in June.
00:34Let's see.
00:34And then I read it.
00:35I'm like, oh, this is actually really charming.
00:38And then I heard that Leighton was up for it.
00:40And I thought, you know,
00:41obviously having a great co-star is huge.
00:44And I'm a big fan of her work.
00:45And then I started to hear about all the people
00:47they wanted for my family.
00:49And Kathy and Michael and Veronica and Stephen.
00:52They're just very, very funny.
00:54And I knew Kathy's work from Whose Line Is It Anyway?
00:57And Michael from literally everything he's ever done.
01:01Being with what felt like truly from day one,
01:05such a well-gelled, fleshed-out family.
01:09Everyone was so fun and funny.
01:13I was excited to work with Robbie.
01:16And also the romance, the will-they-won't-they,
01:20like, that dynamic is just super fun for me
01:23when I watch movies.
01:24So I guess just, like, being part of that,
01:26like, living in that, like, world for a little bit.
01:29Just, it was exciting.
01:31Wanted to be part of it.
01:33The movie sees Meester's character Allie
01:35head to Minnesota to spend the holidays
01:36with her ex-fiancee Graham's family
01:38after she thinks he can't make it home for Christmas.
01:41But when he ends up surprising his fam last minute,
01:44he gets a big surprise of his own.
01:46Surprise!
01:48Graham, what are you doing here?
01:49I found all of these in the back closet.
01:51What are you doing here?
01:54I thought you said he was working.
01:55Is that Allie?
01:57The stars revealed how they like to celebrate
01:59the holidays with their families.
02:01I live in Canada,
02:03so there's no getting around it feeling like Christmas.
02:06The only nice thing about Christmas
02:07is that actually, like, the joyful stuff happens
02:10because to come November, it's cold and it's miserable,
02:13and then it starts to get rainy and then snowy.
02:16So once Christmas rolls around, it's a nice,
02:19it's actually a nice change.
02:20And my mom, well, my mother-in-law is,
02:23whatever you think Jeannie is in the movie,
02:28like 10x, that's my mother-in-law.
02:30She's got, I think she had seven Christmas trees last year.
02:34One of them has a train that drives around the tree.
02:38Like, it's really something.
02:40And my wife is Christmas obsessed.
02:41We've already got Christmas music plane.
02:44Actually, we're only two weeks in the Christmas music plane.
02:47The tree went up right after Halloween.
02:50So Christmas is a big deal, big deal around here.
02:54I live in L.A.
02:55and it's the one day out of the year today when it's raining,
02:58but like every other month.
03:00This, and like I said, like the Southern Hemisphere,
03:03like Australian Christmas is also a summer day.
03:05But L.A., like we go swimming, we walk on the beach,
03:10we hang in the jacuzzi.
03:11Okay, that's enough, please.
03:13I'm sorry, but it's just so nice here.
03:15And like you put on a little sweater and you're like,
03:18oh, it's chilly.
03:19And it's like 72.
03:22But I love it.
03:23Like we have, you know, I just love like waking up
03:26and like seeing if Santa came and like he did usually.
03:29Um, so it's just like, you know,
03:33I mean, there's nothing really like tradition.
03:35It's just we eat, we watch movies,
03:37we play board games and we go outside because we can.
03:43The two actors also shared what they enjoyed most
03:46about working with each other on this project.
03:48He's very like easy laugh.
03:50I really like felt like he thought,
03:52which is like, what?
03:55He just like likes to laugh and enjoys like the jokes
03:59and has fun and like is known to like play,
04:03um, which is also big in a Christmas way.
04:06Like you gotta be like childlike, you know?
04:08I will say everything that Leighton said
04:10is actually true about her as well.
04:13We had a lot of fun.
04:14We just tried to make each other laugh the whole time.
04:17But also, um, she was always very, you know,
04:21we were having a blast,
04:22but she also really cared about what we were making.
04:25So there were times that we were able to sit down
04:27and really figure out some of the more,
04:29like obviously the movie's a ton of fun,
04:31but there's also these more important scenes
04:32between the two of us where we're trying to make sure
04:34that the audience buys that we are,
04:36you know, you know, getting back together,
04:39falling out of love, falling back in love
04:42and just trying to make it feel as real as possible.
04:45And Leighton was always very good at making sure
04:47that the, we were kind of keeping on track
04:51and something that we would, that the audience would buy
04:53and, uh, and that we'd be proud of when, uh, when it comes out.
04:57X-mas is now streaming on Amazon Freebie.
