00:01Thailand is facing severe flooding in the south of the country where intense monsoon rains have left to more than 80 people dead and millions affected.
00:10Our correspondent in China, Bruno Falsi, brings us more details.
00:14Hello to the companions of Telesur and to the audience watching us in this transmission.
00:20I am in Beijing now to report that intense motion rains have caused severe flooding in southern Thailand, leaving more than 80 deaths so far and affecting over 3 million people and nearly 1 million homes.
00:38The cause of the death included landslides, electrocutions and drowning.
00:44In several areas, the water reached up to 2 meters high and completely submerged entire houses.
00:53Some residents were forced to climb onto the rooftops to survive.
00:59The World Meteorological Organization warns that phenomena like these extreme rainfall events are becoming more and more frequent in Asia.
01:12This is due to the global warming and the increasing risk for millions of people and their homes in leaving more disasters.
01:23The Meteorological Department warns that the rains will continue, especially in low-lying areas and near hills, where the risk of flash floods and forest mudslides persists.
01:40Massive rescue operations are ongoing with helicopters, boats, water pumps and military personnel who are evacuating trapped people, including children, elderly and pregnant women.
01:58Some areas are beginning to see decreasing water levels, although alerts remain in place for possible landslides and flooding to go back.
02:11With this news, we return in the studios in La Habana, Cuba.
