Stock Market Today: SPY, QQQ Rise, Commodity Futures Trading Halted Amid Glitch On Black Friday—Apple, Walmart, Security Matters In Focus

U.S. stock futures halted trading on Friday amid a data center glitch, after Wednesday’s advances. However, the benchmark index tracking ETFs were trading higher.

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) halted trading on Friday due to a data center glitch. It also impacted trade in US Treasuries and US crude oil.

After the stocks gained for the fourth straight session ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, the markets will be open till 1:00 p.m. ET on Black Friday.

00:00okay the futures are actually we don't know because the cme is out and the futures are

00:13not working and in fact i'm looking in my broker right now futures are not moving so those products

00:19still down that includes s&p nasdaq oil and such we are getting a reading here from the tradable

00:26etfs those look like they're operating without issue so we are able to guess that things are up

00:32here this morning spy closed at 679.68 on wednesday and in the pre-market here the spy etf is at 681.81

00:42so we are trading up here if i look across the way here it looks like they all are kind of trading a

00:49little bit up but again no futures here we have to rely on the dow qqq excuse me the dia the qqq and

00:58the spy tradable tickers to determine where the uh where the futures are pointing now let's take a

01:07look at some cues from that wednesday session utilities information technology and material

01:13stocks led the gains on wednesday while communication services and health care bucked the trend to

01:19close lower u.s stock futures halted trading on friday amid a data center glitch we'll cover that

01:26in a little bit more detail here in a sec after wednesday's advances however the benchmark index

01:31tracking etfs were trading higher as just mentioned the chicago mercantile exchange or cme halted trading

01:37on friday due to the data center glitch it's also impacted trade in u.s treasuries and u.s crude oil

01:43after the stocks gained for the fourth straight session ahead of the thanksgiving holiday on thursday

01:48markets will be open until 1 p.m eastern today on black friday president trump suggested utilizing

01:54tariff revenues to provide relief for low and middle income taxpayers during a thanksgiving video

02:00call with service members he stated that quote over the next couple of years the u.s will be

02:05substantially cutting or even completely eliminating the federal income tax the s&p 500 spy

02:12and q's which track the s&p 500 and the nasdaq respectively were higher in the pre-market we'll

02:18see if that holds we do have some stocks in focus here today and for all you pot players get excited

02:24because the first one on the list here is till ray ticker t-l-r-y tumbled 14.93 percent in the pre-market

02:32uh after it announced a one for 10 reverse stock split now i know there's a lot of uh attempts to

02:40try and trade the pot market here generally speaking reverse stock splits are not good for stocks you

02:45quality stocks split uh let's call them non-quality stocks reverse split however it will be interesting

02:53to see how this stock trades after the reverse split there might be some short-term opportunity with

02:59that the next stock on our list here is direct digital this is ticker drct that dropped 12.06

03:06after it filed a form 8k with the securities and exchange commission on wednesday revealing it reached

03:11a settlement agreement last week with continuation capital and under the settlement direct digital

03:18will issue up to 50 million class a common shares to constitution capital so it looks like you're

03:24getting a little bit of dilution there via that agreement and uh stock is trading down on

03:29the back of that now the next stock on our list definitely one folks are going to be looking at

03:34here today this is smx security matters we talked about this earlier this week smx surged 74.43

03:43after it presented its molecular identity technology at the dmcc precious metals conference in dubai

03:49on november 24th through the 25th so smx trading up here today it is up big and holding on to those

03:57gains thus far here this morning we'll see where that ends up closing up uh in fact in the pre-market

04:03here it's had multiple big volume spikes and it is going to be in play here today the next stock on

04:09our list is going to be walmart ticker wmt no surprise that that is going to be a stock in focus

04:14on black friday that rose 0.31 on black friday as it promised discounts and exclusive offers this

04:21holiday shopping season the retailer aims to offer an enhanced shopping experience both online and in

04:27stores with early access for walmart plus members anecdotally speaking i've seen a lot of commercials

04:33for walmart's black friday sales they're touting everything from electronics tvs to apparel and all

04:40that so it looks like walmart is trying to hit this shopping holiday if you will dead on the last stock

04:46on our list here in focus is apple ticker aap l which was up 0.36 on black friday with its promotions

04:54and discounts running from november 29th to december 2nd offering customers gift cards with the

05:01purchase of eligible products instead eligible products excuse me instead of direct discounts so

05:06this is interesting instead of getting a discount you get a gift card maybe that will help with

05:11accessory purchases like airpods or otherwise that should actually help apple will see if that's

05:18enough to entice consumers to open their wallet
