As the festive season approaches, armed police from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary have been carrying out increased patrols in busy town centres, shopping centres and Christmas markets. These patrols are carried out every year, and act as a deterrent to any criminal activity as well as providing reassurance to our communities and local businesses that there are officers nearby. Officers will be on hand to engage with the public and will be happy to speak with you should you have any questions about their presence or have any concerns to raise.

00:00Afternoon, I'm Tyler from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary.
00:03I'm out and about in Gunn Wharf today in Portsmouth doing what we call Op Repair, Op Rover Patrols,
00:08which is an armed police presence.
00:11How are you, you all right?
00:12Good, doing the Christmas shopping yet or not?
00:14So you'll often see us in and around busy town centres, Christmas markets in the lead up to Christmas
00:21where people are doing their Christmas shopping and things like that.
00:23And we are a visible presence in the communities, so if people have got any concerns or anything like that
00:27that they want to address to us when we're out and about, that's their opportunity to come and speak to us.
00:31But yeah, it's all just a bit of a reassurance thing, to be honest.
00:33The lead up to Christmas and New Year makes them feel a little bit more like we're about and stuff like that.
00:36So yeah, that's what it is.
00:38Thanks for your own. Thank you very much for your work.
00:39No, and you as well. Christmas wouldn't be the same without you.
