00:00Millie Bobby Brown is opening up about the backlash she's received for her changing accent.
00:07The Stranger Things star discussed the criticism she's received for alternating between a British
00:11accent and an American accent during a recent episode of the Smartless podcast,
00:16hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett. When one of the hosts pointed out that
00:20Brown kept switching accents during the interview, she said this.
00:23That was such a huge thing for a minute. Like, my whole, like, I actually call it the accent
00:29gate because it's, like, so frustrating because that was, like, everywhere. Like,
00:33like, for a second, like, everyone was talking about my accent and they had a real problem about it.
00:39She continued, I'm married to an American. When I'm around his family, I immediately go into an
00:44American accent. But then I was just in England and the second I hear my mom and dad's accent,
00:48I just go right back. Brown married Jake Bongiovi in May 2024. She went on to share this message
00:55with those who have criticized her. You want me to be an actor? You want me to play these characters?
00:59But you expect me not to morph into people. What I hear is what I do. I do that, you know?
01:05Brown's latest film, The Electric State, hits Netflix on March 14th.
