"To know her story and how far that she's come, I think on a personal level, is what inspired me even more than a career level," actress Clemons said of Oprah Winfrey.
Transcript
00:00The first time that you see her on TV, especially being black and young, and being like, oh,
00:05she looks different than all of the other people that are hosting shows on television.
00:10And then on top of that, it kind of sticks with you, as shallow as it sounds, as a young
00:14person of color, to be like, wow, she's filthy rich.
00:17And like, you're kind of told that those are goals and like, oh, she gives a lot of her
00:22money away.
00:22Like, she's that much money.
00:24And then obviously, as you get older, it becomes more than that.
00:27To help you realize why and to know her story and to know how far that she's come, I think,
00:31on a personal level is what inspires me more than even a career level.
00:35Yeah.
00:37To, for someone who's been abused mentally and physically and sexually, she's a very inspiring
00:44person to anyone, you know?
00:46And one of the things that I find so moving is she always preaches to be yourself, to be
00:50more yourself.
00:50That's something that you do very well.
00:53Who's your mentor these days that helps you, that helps guide you to that place?
00:58Oh, I have so many.
01:00I think I'm really inspired by women that I know personally.
01:03Rashida Jones, Eve Ensler, just women who have always used their truth and who they are
01:11to drive their talent and what they do.
01:13Yeah.
01:14That's great.
01:15Well, listen, thank you so much for being here.
01:16You look great, by the way.
01:17Who makes the dress?
01:18Gucci.
01:18It looks great.
01:19Well, have fun today.
01:20And thanks again for coming.
01:21It means a lot to us.
