00:00Despite all the controversy leading up to last night's Super Bowl 53 halftime
00:14performance, Maroon 5 alongside Travis Scott, Big Boy and yes, even Squidward
00:19pushed through to deliver, if nothing else, a literally fire-filled halftime show.
00:23And people had a lot to say. Maroon 5 stood on the ginormous M-shaped stage in
00:28Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium and started off the show with their early hits like
00:32Harder to Breathe and This Love. There were fireworks and gouts of flames from the stage
00:36and even a silly fake meteor falling toward the stadium as part of that highly anticipated
00:40yet not nearly long enough SpongeBob SquarePants cameo.
00:44Maroon 5 basically played all their hits like moves like Jagger and She Will Be Loved.
00:48They also insisted on continuing to do Girls Like You even though Cardi B declined to appear.
00:53There were some standout moments like all the pyrotechnics and the Japanese lanterns
00:57roads that spelled out One and Love that were kind of cool, but other moments were questionable
01:02like that, you know, striptease from Adam Levine.
01:05According to THR critics, both of the high-profile cameos fell flat.
01:09Travis Scott's lack of censoring his song Sicko Mode felt odd, especially for a Super Bowl audience,
01:13and much of his performance was actually bleeped. Big Boy rolled out in an old-school caddy,
01:18but with an absent Andre 3000 and Levine providing the backup, his performance felt like it was lacking.
01:23Now over on the Twitterverse, people quickly had a lot to say about the performance.
01:27From critiques of Adam Levine's shirtless finale to celebrating that SpongeBob SquarePants reference,
01:32some entertainment personalities put in their two cents into the online discussion.
01:36Some stars were less than impressed.
01:39LeBron James didn't seem impressed with the lack of stage time for Scott, tweeting,
01:43that's all for Travis or not. The Office star Rainn Wilson joked that the show lasted for maroon five hours.
01:49And activist and ESPN reporter Jamail Hill said the performance was if
01:53gentrification was a Super Bowl halftime show. Others were pretty on board with the whole show.
01:58Recent Dancing with the Stars winner Bobby Bones tweeted that it sounded good.
02:02And then there was Larry King who tweeted,
02:04That was a rousing halftime show. I just wish I understood all the lyrics. I'm not really sure whose side he's on.
02:09All in all, THR critic Daniel Feinberg put it best when he said,
02:13In football terms, the NFL and Maroon 5 punted on Sunday, an appropriate interlude for this particular Super Bowl.
