00:04In a joint statement, representatives for Spotify and Archwell said the two have, quote,
00:09mutually agreed to part ways. They added that they are proud of Archetypes, the podcast hosted
00:14by Markle that served as the first and only series released as part of Archwell's podcast
00:19deal with Spotify. Existing episodes of the series will remain on Spotify. However, it's not
00:24immediately clear if Archwell plans to release those episodes wide on all major podcast platforms.
00:31A person with knowledge of the matter told THR that the end of the partnership was in part due to the
00:36low output of content, given that Spotify typically requires multiple series or multiple episodes of a
00:42show released on a regular basis. The end of the Spotify-Archwell relationship was announced late
00:47Thursday after it was reported that the audio company did not renew Archetypes for a second
00:52season. A representative for WME, which represents Markle and Archwell, has told the Wall Street
00:58Journal that the Duchess of Sussex was continuing to develop more content for the podcast audience
01:03on another platform. The series premiered last August and featured guests like Serena Williams,
01:08Mariah Carey, Mindy Kaling, Constance Wu, Paris Hilton, Issa Rae, and Michaela J. Rodriguez
01:14across its 12th episode first season. The series also had the highest first week streams at launch for
01:20a podcast in the U.S., according to last year's Spotify rap list. The podcast was released as part
01:26of Archwell's multi-year exclusive deal with Spotify, which was first announced in late 2020.
