Mark Duplass, alongside his wife Katie Aselton, chats with THR at the 2024 Emmy Awards and reveals what he's most looking forward to for the upcoming season of 'The Morning Show.' Plus, he dishes on his friendship with co-star Jennifer Aniston.

00:04Listen, we're all still in the mode of having lived in our pajamas for four years,

00:08so people are going a little extra, I think.

00:09But it also means that my feet, like, cannot stand it.

00:30I have many secrets, which is complete self-denial and focus on Katie

00:35and what's happening with the hair, making sure this line is perfect here,

00:39checking the back, making sure the strings are in the right place,

00:42making sure I don't step on that shit.

00:43Nothing feeds not in his head.

00:45It's all a strategy.

00:46See, this works.

00:53Well, I mean, we are welcoming 16 nominations for The Morning Show,

00:57which is amazing.

00:59What are you most excited about, though, for this upcoming season?

01:03Can we talk a little bit about what to expect?

01:06I mean, we got this cast that keeps expanding.

01:09You know, it's like the trash pile in the ocean.

01:13It just keeps growing every year, you know?

01:15And maybe that wasn't the best matter.

01:17No, it's kind of sad.

01:18Trash pile, but, like, the most talented, wonderful.

01:20It's a trash pile with Jeremy Irons and Marilyn Cotillard.

01:23You know, so it's that kind of trash pile.

01:24He's always being compared to trash.

01:26That's so cool.

01:27He is.

01:28He's like that.

01:29But we're going to be examining some hot topics, some current topics.

01:35We will definitely be looking at technology and AI and things like that,

01:38because, you know, they always take on something current.

01:41And, you know, I'm always looking forward to my fun scenes with Jen Aniston,

01:48where we just destroy each other emotionally and sometimes physically.

01:52And it's just wonderful.

01:54Yes, you all have a very complicated relationship on set.

01:57But off set, I'm sure it is wonderful.

02:00And Jen Aniston loves me almost as much as she loves Katie.

02:03So it works really well.

02:05One of my favorite people in the whole world.

02:07But she's special, man.

02:08I mean, like, I don't know if you've had a chance to interview her,

02:11but she's like, I mean, she's an international icon.

02:15And she should be closed.

02:18She should be guarded.

02:20And she's just open-spirited.

02:22Warm, inviting.

02:24Like, she's, you know.

02:25When you're acting with her, it feels like a little kid in a high school play together.

02:28It's just like, she's the best.

02:30And she's goofy.

02:31Like, she's just funny.

02:32She's great.

02:33I'd love to hear that.

02:34I can't wait to meet her.

02:35And also, are you guys going to be covering,

02:36I know AI is going to be covering all the different moments with tech,

02:40that storyline continuing from last season.

02:41But with the election year, will there be some kind of meta reporting that we see,

02:46some storylines that we'll get to visit on that size as well?

02:50I know some things.

02:51I'm not allowed to say any things.

02:53Because Apple is very powerful.

02:55And I think they might even have, like, a laser inside of that camera.

02:58They can shut it down.

02:59Like, I would just start talking, and then all of a sudden I'd just hit the floor.

03:02So, we're going to avoid that, because I want to live.

03:06Yeah, me too.

03:07I want you to live, and I want you to have a job.

03:08But for you yourself, though, I mean, how important is it for you to stay involved,

03:14especially in this election year?

03:15There's so much happening.

03:16Why is it important for people to use their voices, especially in times like this?

03:20How much time have you got?

03:22We're here at the Emmys.

03:23It's just open.

03:24I mean, it's really complicated.

03:25You know, I do a lot of work for mental health awareness, which is really interesting work,

03:29because it actually crosses the political divide, one of the few things that people can agree upon,

03:35which I really, really love.

03:36But at the same time, I'm a proud Democrat, and I believe that we are at a crisis point in our country.

03:43So, part of me wants to wage the war to win.

03:45Part of me also wants to keep open the long game of trying to erode that hard divide,

03:53so that we can someday come together.

03:55So, I'm trying to find what that balance is for me, and I get it wrong most of the time.

03:59As long as we show up, that's all.

04:05Check your sources all the time.

04:08And just keep the conversation going with everyone you love, with everyone you meet.
